‘Staching Through The Snow

September 11th, 2012 | By JamieP in Altered Art | 4 Comments »

Jamie here, and today I have a fun winter project to share.  The weather here is finally starting to cool down, meaning not cold yet but not 100 degrees either.  And it has me thinking ahead to winter fun.

To start this canvas, I painted the background a light blue.  Once the paint was dry, I used a Crafter’s Workshop template and stenciled the snowflakes.  Then I splattered ink over the snowflakes for contrast. Lastly for the background, I added a thick layer of SnowTex.  Love this stuff!  I can layer it on thick and achieve a super textured effect.

Both the tree tops and trunks were sprayed with Glimmer Mist. Then I used a brown marker to draw in the tree branches. Next, I added a bit of SnowTex to the tree tops.

On to the ‘staches.  I simply covered them both with patterned paper then added a bit of Gelatos to the edges.  I added a bit more Snow Tex around the ‘staches to make them appear to be sunk into the snow.  What better way to use a ‘stache but as a sled?

With a side view of the canvas, you can really see all the layers of texture.  And you know I can’t make a project without lots of bling, so lets count the number of ways I’ve added it to this project. :)  Then entire project shimmers and shines.

1.  Glimmer Mist on the trees

2. I added lots of glitter to the Snow Tex

3. Stickles on the word snow

4. I sprayed the entire canvas with French Vanilla Glimmer Mist

Jamie here with you again today with an 8×11 canvas.  This canvas was made specifically for Summer CHA and I’m finally sharing with those who could not attend. I can’t tell you how much fun I had working on this piece!  I haven’t made a lot of canvases, so working on something different really allowed me to play and experiement with different techniques.

Let’s start with the background first.  I am very impatient when it comes to waiting for mixed media pastes and gels to dry, so I did something a bit different.  I took several colors of Distress Ink pads and swiped them across the canvas until it was fully covered.  Then I gave the entire canvas a good spritz with water and let the inks run.  I just kept adding ink and spritzing with water until I was happy with the result.  Then, using WOW embossing powders and a Crafter’s Workshop template, I heat embossed the circles on the background.

Next, I started adding all of the dimensional pieces.  Using a WOW stamp and embossing powder, I heat embossed a canvas heart.  Then I simply flicked some ink on the heart for a splattered effect.  I found some old letters in my stash which I painted and ran through my Cuttlebug for dimension.

Next, on to the houses.  The green house is covered with layers of Washi tape, and then the edges have been embossed.  The yellow house was inked with Tattered Angels and then heat embossed. The last house on the right is covered with layers of Ranger’s Tissue Tape, then a thick layer of Crackle Paint.  Once the paint was dry, I inked over all the cracks with Distress Ink.  And to keep the paint from flaking off, I gave it a good spray with an acrylic sealer.

The flowers were created by stamping onto Clearly For Art Modeling Film,  inked with alcohol ink, and then cut out.  I then heated the film with my heat tool, and while it was still hot, carefully molded the leaves so they had lots of dimension.

Lastly, I added a bit of punchinella and word strips to complete the saying.  The  word strips were outlined with a Zig Millenium pen.

Double The Fun

June 3rd, 2012 | By JamieP in Cupcakes, Page Layouts | 6 Comments »

Jamie back with you today a fun, whimsical layout!  I was sorting through some older pictures and came across a stack from my twin niece’s first birthday.

I had made individual cupcake cakes for them, plus one for the rest of us to eat.  So of course I thought of using the cupcake embellies on the layout!

I started by heat embossing the base piece with Distress Embossing powder so that it resembles a vanilla cupcake. Since the Distress Embossing powders are very textural, it actually looks like a real cupcake IRL.

Then I used Zig Painty FX paint pens in Pink, Lt Blue, and Yellow to color the felt frosting pieces.  Lastly, I used a  Painty FX paint pen in White to color the cupcake liner piece.  Once the paint was dry, I drew in lines to make is resemble a cupcake liner and then covered it Stickles for a bit of glimmer.

To make it a bit more festive, I cut strips of curling ribbon and adhered it under the cupcakes.

And lastly, I used a chipboard arrow which was painted with a Painty FX pen in Yellow.

Basically Bare items used:

-Basically Embellies Stack-a-Bellies Chipboard and Felt Cupcakes

-Basically Embellies Chipboard Arrows

Kuretake items used:

-Zig Painty FX in White, Lt Blue, Pink, and Yellow

Sarah’s Lovely Cards

May 31st, 2012 | By admin in By Product, By Project Type, Cards, Cupcakes | 9 Comments »

Hey there! Sarah reporting here with a dynamic duo of cards created with the Nikki Sivils Scrapbooker collection called “Exit Here.” This is a bright, fun, and happy line of papers! It made me think of one thing- SUMMER!!!! Woohoo! You can defenitely tell I have summer on the brain by my first card, which includes an amazingly delicious looking summertime treat…

And to be honest with you, I can’t really call it a summertime treat bcuz i eat ice cream year round soooo…anyhoo, I created this ice cream cone by stacking a few of the Basically Bare Cupcake frostings on top of one another. The middle scoop is a felt piece and the other two scoops are canvas pieces that I covered with pink craft paint.  The cone is just some cardstock I cut and embossed, and the cherry on top is a Basically Bare button! I used my Zig Painty FX marker in red that Kurtake provided, and topped that off with some red Stickles. I did the same technique to my little Basically Bare sunshine! This card makes me happy, it’s got 2 of my favorite things on it! ;) Ice Cream & Sunshine yesssss!

For my next trick I’d like to show you a card with another fave of mine, flowers! I wanted to have a flower in a pot, annnd I still had the bottom portion of my Basically Bare cupcake left sooooo,

It just happened to work out perfectly ;) I ripped off a little of the front cardboard layer to grunge it up a little.

Juiced it up a little with some red bakers twine (which Im addicted to) and a Nikki Sivils tag, it actually looks like a real flower pot! lol The posy is a Basically Bare flower chipboard embellie that I covered with some bright & cheerful Nikki Sivils patterned paper.

Thank you to Nikki Sivils and Kurtake for generously donating your beautiful products! Have a creative day everyone!

Love, Sarah

She Dreams Of Paris

Hey papercraftin peeps! Sarah’s in the houuuse!! How are all of you on this beautiful day?! I have a layout I would like to share with you, and it’s actually about me can you believe it?! Woohoo! It is SO important that we artists document ourselves, even if it’s about something silly like what my layout is. Dreaming. What do you dream about? I am ALWAYS dreaming about something, whether it’s creating or redecorating or gardening or whatever!  But usually, for me, it’s about traveling to far off places, distant lands far far away. I love to travel and there are sooo many places I would like to visit. Someday… So here’s my layout;

I love the Basically Bare Banners! They are so stinkin cute! I took some patterned paper, roughed and inked up the edges, then covered my chipboard banner pieces with them. I love to mix up the shapes together, it gives it more of an eclectic feel. Add some string and voila!

Super cute and different way to create a word, yes?! Another way of juicin up your chipboard is to cover it with glitter, like this Basically Bare Fanciful Frame here;

Here’s a little tip, you should paint the surface of the chipboard first, that way you don’t see any brown coming through and your color is solid and crisp. Kurtake generously provided some of their Zig Painty FX markers for us to play with, and I used the black on this frame which worked really awesome! Made it look super fancy schmancy! (technical term)

Those fancy frames add just the right amount of pizazz, even if you’re not “framing” anything, don’t you think?

So thank you so much for hangin out, remember to keep dreaming cuz you just never know!  Have an amazing day!

Love, Sarah

A Trip Down Memory Lane

May 6th, 2012 | By JamieP in Page Layouts, Pennants, Sew Vintage | 5 Comments »

Are you ready for another project featuring Basically Bare and Paper Loft?  Jamie here with a layout that should fit the bill.

I’ve been trying to sort through my Grandmother’s old pictures and recently came across the two I used on this layout.  And of course, the paper and cardstock were perfect for these pictures.  I did a lot of distressing on the paper.

Once I had all the papers layered and distressed, it was time to start layering on the embellishments.  The first one I used was a Fleur De Lis, which I painted with a white Zig Painty FX Pen.

Then I added a pair of chipboard scissors from the Sew Vintage Set.  I fully embossed both pieces with gold embossing powder.  Then I added a second layer of embossing powder in green to only the handles to add a bit of contrast.  I love how the embellies hold up to all the ink, powders, and paints I throw at them!

And the last pieces I added were the small canvas pennants.  I just lightly misted them with Glimmer Mist, then added a bit of faux stitching across the bottom with a Zig Fabricolor pen.

Be Awesome Today

Hi Everyone! Kristin here :)

I’m excited to share a layout that I had so much fun making. I pulled together a combination of Basically Bare goodies and Pink Paislee’s Spring Jubilee collection.

Basically Bare and Pink Paislee layout by Kristin Tweedale

The bright colors of Spring Jubilee really pop on neutral backgrounds, so I grabbed the newspaper patterned sheet as my background and worked from there.  I added some Pink Paislee rub-ons (Spring Jubilee and She Art collections) to the neutral background, and matted the entire layout on bright green patterned paper.

I loved the idea of painting the Basically Bare chipboard Frames a stark black (using the amazing Zig black painty markers) and using them to frame the ultra bright pink and blue papers. The Zig painty markers really do make it super easy to paint chipboard. I keep them right on my desk at all times. I also used them to paint over the foam Thickers in my title, easily making my own coordinating alpha!

I used three separate frames: one for my photo (approx. 4×6) and then two more for the patterned papers.  After backing the frames, I played around with the arrangement a little until I was satisfied.

As you can see I stacked the center frame with the photo, on top of the two other frames. This gave the layout a lot of dimension right at the focal point.

One of my favorite parts of this layout is this little embellishment cluster to the bottom left of the photo.  The acrylic heart is a part of the LOVEly locket set, I trimmed off the lock piece at the top, and I was left with a clear acrylic heart. Also in the cluster are a chipboard star from the Celestial Shapes collection as well as a chipboard button from the Buttons collection; those are both covered with a coordinating patterned paper from the Spring Jubilee collection.

I added Pink Paislee ‘She Art’ rub-ons to the top of both the acrylic heart and the chipboard star, just to give it a little bit more of a artsy, textured feel.

Thank you so much for letting me share my layout with all of you today!

Lots of Love,

Kristin

Fearless Flier Layout

April 7th, 2012 | By admin in Birds, Page Layouts | 8 Comments »

Hello everyone! My name is Miae and I’m so very excited to be sharing my first official post as part of the Basically Bare design team! I’m a painting, inking, misting kinda gal so I’m a huge fan of all of the Basically Bare products…the altering possibilities are endless! And with that I just wanted to give a big “THANK YOU!” to Angela and Beth for having me as part of this awesome group!

Now for the project… I made this layout about my wonderful mom. I’ll admit, I’m usually scrapping my kids but when I saw the super cute Basically Bare trees, this photo came to mind and the rest, as they say, is history!  This page is about my mom’s first time zip lining. Now I don’t know about you, but there is no way, no how that I could ever try zipping across the tops of tall trees, hanging from a rope…NO WAY! Well my mom did at the age of 61 (!) on our trip to Thailand and for that I’m so proud of her!

I started with papers from The Paper Loft’s HuckIeberry Pond collection. They were great to work with!…so many cute patterns in these beautiful neutral earth tones (think: swinging through trees in Thailand!). I applied gesso to the background cardstock followed by droplets of blue india ink and liquid acrylic. Next I used my Silhouette to die cut patterned paper hexagons then distressed the edges.

Now it was time to play with Basically Bare goodies! I wanted to give those oh so cute trees a lot of texture so I painted the chipboard trunks brown, then embossed them with my cuttlebug. I also did a bit of sanding to the raised area..loved the look!  For the tree tops I chose canvas. I painted them one shade of green and then mixed paint (in a different green) and molding paste then applied the mixture over a flower stencil on that canvas. More texture, yay!

My chipboard birdie was to have the important job of holding a scroll which contains the hidden journaling so I gessoed then painted her a blue to make her stand out among the neutrals. Her little acrylic wing got the embossing treatment for a little extra something! Lastly I took a Kuretake millennium pen and did some doodling around the bird, the photo, drew some hexagons and wrote my journaling.

Well that’s my page for now! Hope you enjoyed it!

Cheers,

Miae

Altered Wise Owl Wall Decor

April 6th, 2012 | By admin in Altered Art, Birds | 13 Comments »

Hi everyone!  I’m Erin Bassett, part of the Art Assembly team here at Basically Bare, and I’m so excited to be doing my first blog post today and sharing with your this adorable little owl!

I took one of the felt owl Stack-a-Bellies and traced it on a piece of fabric and then cut it out a bit smaller then the original owl.  Then I frayed the edges and sewed the fabric and felt owl pieces together in a messy sewing style.  I love the way she turned out!

I also had this little embroidered heart sitting on my desk for a week or so now.  It was left over from another project I was working on and I thought it would work out great on this.  I took a big safety pin, which was originally silver, and painted it with some “Saffron” Glimmer Glaze from Tattered Angels so that it would match the screw that’s on the embroidery hoop.

I also had to put a bow on it, of course!  I just pinned it around the embroidery hoop screw along with a little tag that I wrote on with a Zig pen.

Now I just have to find a place in my home to put her up!

Rainbow Road!

April 4th, 2012 | By admin in Altered Art, By Product, By Project Type, Uncategorized | 14 Comments »

Hello everyone!! DeeDee here, and I’m so excited to be here, so excited and so HONORED that Basically Bare chose me as a 2012 Design Team Member — this team is full of the most amazingly talented people and run by the most generous individuals.. The whole team is full of inspiration and creativity! There’s nothing more I could ask for when it comes to being part of a team — and today I have for you my first post as “An Art Assembler” !!

I decided it was time I create a rainbow road for my mantle.. and so I pulled out my Happy Little House Set and set to work!

I grabbed some distress ink in Broken China, Festive Berries, Peeled Paint, Vintage Photo, Spiced Marmalade, Dusty Concord, and Mustard Seed. I also used Distress Stain in Wild Honey, Broken China, and Spun Sugar. After all my distressing was done.. spritzing of the water included.. I grabbed a Viva Las Vegastamps! stamp and gave the yellow house a bit of oomph with a chicken wire background. Then I glued on all doors and grabbed my Kuretake ZIG Writer in Brown — because it was a little compared to the other browns on the houses I went over it a couple of times. Using the marker I added sketch lines to certain parts of the doors giving them a little extra life.

Then.. decorate each house.. The green got buttons and twine. The yellow got old book butterflies cut using the martha stewart punch. The orange house got a giant ribbon dyed in the same colors and tied through a giant vintage button. Red got a vintage tape measure and a dymo label “HOME”. Purple got a handmade flower, and blue got a Tim Holtz idealogy clock configuration with lots of Tattered Angels Glimmer Glaze in Waterfall.

You may also notice that two of my houses have their fires going.. Green’s smoke was made from a Qtip, and the blue house’s was made from some beautiful mini aqua colored tinsel.

Here is an up close shot of the stamped chipboard and of the ZIG sketching.

Here you can really see how wonderful the distress ink acts on chipboard.. those splotches are made from spritzed water after the ink has dried.

And here are all my pretty little houses in a pretty little row! If you were going to move in.. which would you choose?
