Shabby Dress Form Tutorial

December 29th, 2012 | By Rebecca in Dress Forms | No Comments »

Hello everyone, Rebecca here to share a fun and shabby tutorial using Bare Basics Dress Forms, vintage sheet music, and Art Anthology Sorbets.

Step 1. Paint the top and bottom of a Bare Basics Dress Form with Kenyan Copper Sorbet.

Step 2. Paint the middle of the dress form piece with June Bud Sorbet. Make this a thick coating, and use it as glue by pressing strips of sheet music onto the dress form. Let the excess ooze out between the pieces of sheet music, and gently rub it around for a touch of color.

Step 3. Apply a light mist of  Heart Colorations Spray.

Step 4. When dry, add some trim around the waist of the dress form and it’s ready to go. I intend to use it on an album I’ve already started to color with more Art Anthology Sorbets and Colorations Sprays.

Mummy Tutorial And Card

October 30th, 2012 | By Rebecca in Cards | 2 Comments »

Hi everyone! Today I am going to share a quick tutorial on making a mummy from May Arts ribbon and a Basically Bare Fanciful Frame. Ready? Here we go..

1. Gather your supplies. You need some white May Arts ribbon, a small Fanciful Frame, googly eyes, and wet adhesive of choice.

2. Place a small amount of glue on the Fanciful Frame.

3. Place the end of a strip of May Arts ribbon onto the glue. Press and hold for a minute until it’s secure.

4. Turn the Fanciful Frame over so the ribbon is on the back. Now begin wrapping it  around the frame. Make sure you cover all of the frame. Secure the end of the ribbon onto the back of the mummy with glue.

5.Glue on some googly eyes and you’re done!

I used my cute mummy friend on a card. The base was black, and I used another larger Fanciful Frame on it. Adding a little patterned paper and spooky sentiment complete a sweet  Halloween card! Happy Halloween everyone!

White Christmas Canvas

December 24th, 2011 | By JamieP in Altered Art, Birds | 1 Comment »

Jamie here with you once again and today I have a step by step tutorial on how to create a wonderful piece of Christmas art.   I hope you enjoy!

Once complete, you’ll have created an 8 1/2 x 11 canvas piece that can be used year after year for decoration.  It would also make a fab gift too!

Step One: Cover entire canvas, both the top and all four sides, with a thin layer of gel medium and cover with tissue paper. Set aside to dry.

Step Two: Dip a paintbrush into white paint and flick the paint onto the canvas. Repeat with silver paint.

Step Three: Attach a thin strip of punchinella, which will be the “trunk” to our Christmas tree.

Step Four: Trim around the edges of four strips of fabric with pinking shears and adhere to the canvas.

Step Five: Using a paintbrush, add a fairly thick layer of SnowTex to the bottom of the canvas. Then, using a dry brush technique, add random bits of SnowTex to the remainder of the canvas. While the SnowTex is still wet, sprinkle with glitter and tap off any excess. Set aside to dry.

Step Seven: Cut the heart from a felt key, which is from the Lovely Locket Set and paint it with Glimmer Glam.  Once dry, attach to the top of the Christmas tree.

Step Eight: Completely cover one side of an acrylic bird from the Stack-a-Bellies Bird Set with a thick layer of Stickles and set aside to dry.  Once dry, adhere to the canvas with the glittered side facing the canvas.

Step Nine: Lastly, add letter stickers to make your sentiment and also add a few holly leaves and berries.

Build a brick wall, part one of two…

September 14th, 2011 | By Rebecca in Uncategorized | 2 Comments »

Hi everyone, Rebecca here! Today I am going to show you how to build a beautiful and realistic looking brick wall using the new Climbing Ivy set from Basically Bare. You will need an assortment of paints and glimmer mists. The shades are completely up to you, but you want to stay in the rust/yellow/orange/brown family. Just think of how bricks look, some darker than others, and color accordingly!

Begin by peeling the top layer from the corrugated brick shapes…

I chose  Pueblo paint for my darker bricks. Paint about half of the brick shapes your darker colored paint.

Use a darker shade of Glimmer Mist, I chose Coffee Shop, and spray the bricks while the paint is wet.

Choose a shade of yellow for your lighter bricks. My paint color is Mustard Yellow. Paint the remaining bricks.

Again, chose a darker shade of Glimmer Mist, I used Valencia, and spray the bricks while wet.

Allow these to dry thoroughly. You will end up with multi-colored realistic bricks, have a look:

Come back tomorrow when I will be showing how to build a wall with these bricks, and the finished project!
