Simple Joys with “Simply Shapely” Mixed Media Album

Hey all, its me again Veronica Johnson!

I had a blast making this album!  I think this might be one of my favorite Basically Bare albums to use … why?  Because it is so easy and the pages make you “think outside the box.”  You get acrylic, chipboard, cardboard, canvas, and felt pages to alter anyway you like.  Of course I just love it because I am all about using different textures.

For my cover I took the acrylic page that came in the mini and cut it short, then embossed it with my folders and inked it with alcohol.

In order to “ground” my title, I used the chipboard frame embellies and first painted it white then used “frantage” chunky enamel embossing powder on it

This is the back of my acrylic page.  Remember whatever you stick on the front will always show up on the back so I mirrored my chipboard frame (that I painted white) by adding my felt frame

On this page I used the canvas heart embellie that I colored with Kuretake fabric pens.  I love using canvas, it makes me happy.

Look how totally sweet my chipboard birdie turned out.  All I did was emboss it with my embossing folder, then ink the edges a bit.  Notice my wing on my matt?  I covered the chipboard wing with pretty pink paislee paper.  I also used a felt flower from my Blossoms and Leaves set and misted it with glimmer mist.  I like this page :)

Oh, my lovely canvas page!!  One of the reasons I LOVE this canvas page is because I can add LOTS OF LAYERS!  Can you tell?  Well, I did.  But … this time I layered with my masks using glimmer mist, then I stamped several images on the background.

The Dressforms are definately one of my favorites!  I covered it with lace and made a dress out of the 7 Gypsies tissue paper.

Here I used the cardboard heart and tore off the first layer to make it more grungy.  I also used a small chipboard frame and also the felt key from my “Lovely Locket Set”

I added/layered a cork heart to the key top.

On this page, I covered my chipboard wing from the Bare Basics “Wing” set with Graphic 45

Look how cute my felt birdie is.  Usually I would have glimmer misted my felt but this time I just inked it a little bit and used a cork piece for the wing.  I layered the felt birdie on a chipboard flower from “blossoms and leaves” and also used a canvas leaf from that same set.  I colored my leaf with Kuretake.

I always like to add some frill on my album spine so as you can see I added a couple of metal keys, some ribbon and oh look an acrylic birdie that has been alcohol inked and embossed.

Tanisha – Book Bunch

May 8th, 2012 | By admin in Banners, Mini Albums & Journals, Pennants, Uncategorized | 4 Comments »

Hey there it’s Tanisha, a member of the Book Bunch, here with a really fun mini album that I created to house photos of my 2 rambunctious little boys!

I had the pleasure of working with Dude, a really cool collection from The Paper Loft.   This line has my boys written all over it with it’s clever phrases, distressing, and awesome colors!

I used the Simply Shapely Mixed Media Album, which is just perfect for larger photos and for experimenting with different techniques.  I covered the front cover with patterned paper cut just a tad smaller than the album.  I love to leave some of the natural elements showing when working with these types of album as I think it adds character.

I added a couple of Gears from set 2 to the cover.  I dry embossed both gears and then heat embossed the chipboard gear with WOW embossing powder in Metallic Copper, to give it a rustic look.

Whenever I work with cardboard, I just can’t help myself, I MUST peel pack some of the top layer to reveal the beautiful corrugated layer.  It adds so much texture and acts as a mini canvas.  I used dark brown ink here.

I inked a chipboard button, tied it with jute and layered it on the acrylic gear.

So many ideas come to mind when I look at the felt tag.  I chose to slightly alter it by lightly rubbing with ink and adhering Large Pennants that I covered with patterned paper.  I added my sons’ initials to finish off the look.

I altered the color of this felt button by spritzing it with Lime Glimmer Mist.

I have found the using a hot glue gun on the canvas and felt pages are the best way to adhere elements.

This filmstrip is from the Paparazzi Set.  I added color to it by heat embossing with WOW embossing powder in Ebony.  It really adds a nice glossy finish to the piece.

I used gear masks from Tim Holtz, a few Basically Bare gears, and denim glimmer mist to create the background on the canvas page.

I repeated the same technique on the back, but used Lime glimmer mist.

I used copper embossing powders on the gears (Gears Set 1) to give them a rusty look and then adhered to the acrylic page with brads.  I embossed both sides since I attached them to a clear page.  Yes, the gears actually work, making this a fun interactive page.

Here you can see the back of the gear–I fussy cut elements from patterned paper and adhered them over the center to hide the brad prongs.

Thanks so much for taking a peek at my project today!!

Be sure to visit the Paper Loft and see all their great lines!
