My Favorite

May 30th, 2012 | By JamieP in Page Layouts, Pennants | 8 Comments »

Welcome back for another fun layout!  Jamie here again to show you a page I created using both Basically Bare embellies and Nikki Sivils paper.

The paper was absolutely perfect for the picture of my niece that I used.  She is very much a tomboy, so the Messages Collection Kit made it very easy to create this layout.  I started by simply using a bit of masking in the bottom corner and then just tearing and layering the papers.

Next, I took three sizes of chipboard gears and painted them all the same base color.  Once the paint was dry, I ran two of them through my Cuttlebug for a bit of added texture.

The largest and smallest gears were then inked further to bring out the embossed texture.  I added a bit of ink and a button to the middle size gear to make it pop from the page.

Next up, I painted, inked and stamped the large chipboard pennants.  Then I layered on a small felt pennant, which was purposely left white for a bit of contrast.  There were a few die-cut pennant paper shapes in the Messages Collection Kit that worked beautifully on top of the felt pennants.  I simply glued just the top of the die-cut and then slightly curled the bottom.

Lastly, I added a bit of punchinella and washi tape to finish the page.

*Basically Embellies Chipboard Gears

*Basically Embellies Small Felt Pennants

*Basically Embellies Large Chipboard Pennants

Nikki Sivils items used:

DeeDee’s Nikki Sivils Goodness

May 30th, 2012 | By admin in Altered Art, Hearts, Pennants, Uncategorized | 9 Comments »

So many posts this month I feel famous!! I got super lucky and got a spot in the Nikki Sivils Swap — I was sent the “Exit Here” collection to work with.

To make my little “containers” (which happen to be full of vintage ribbon.. perfect for a mantle or kitchen table center piece!) I cut three of the patterned papers to 7.25 x 4 inches. Roll the paper to overlap about 1/4 inch and glue. Then flatten one edge, glue and cut with decorative scissors! If you’re thinking of using an edge punch I suggest punching BEFORE you glue :)

This baby uses the patterned paper, and die cuts from the sheet in the collection pack. It also uses A large chipboard pennant piece from the Basic Embellies Large Pennant pack which was covered in other pieces of patterned paper from Nikki’s collection pack. It has a double layer cut slightly smaller on top.

This one uses 2 more of the die cuts, some May Arts ribbon and a canvas heart from the Basically Embellies Heart Set 2. I dabbed some Pumice Stone distress stain and Spun Sugar distress stain on my teflon mat, spritzed with water and then dipped the heart into it.

And the third one utilizes LOTS of the die cuts, some pop dots and the perfectly round tree top from the Basically Embellies Happy Little Trees set. I used a crop-o-dile to punch holes in the felt and ran a Zig Yellow Painty FX pen through the holes to give them a bit of color.. I thought the yellow might be TOO yellow, so I went over it with a White Painty FX pen after it was dry :)

Here you can see the layering and “popping”

Enjoy!! -DeeDee

Erin’s Message

May 30th, 2012 | By admin in Banners, Hearts, Uncategorized | 10 Comments »

Hi everyone, it’s Erin here.  Today I’m sharing a scrapbook layout I did using Niki Sivills “Message” line and some great Basically Bare products!

I used some of the chipboard Basically Embellies Bare Large Basics Pennants and ran them through my embossing machine.  Then I just ran an ink pad over the top of them to highlight the embossing.  And then I put a bit of Tattered Angels Glimmer Glam on each of them.

I also took one of the corrugated cardboard Basically Embellies Bare Basics Hearts from Set #1 and stripped off the top layer and then brushed on some more of the Glimmer Glam onto it.  I also added a Basically Embellies Bare Basics Retro Arrow to it too.

I also created a little embellishment cluster in the upper corner.  I love that typewriter!

She Dreams Of Paris

Hey papercraftin peeps! Sarah’s in the houuuse!! How are all of you on this beautiful day?! I have a layout I would like to share with you, and it’s actually about me can you believe it?! Woohoo! It is SO important that we artists document ourselves, even if it’s about something silly like what my layout is. Dreaming. What do you dream about? I am ALWAYS dreaming about something, whether it’s creating or redecorating or gardening or whatever!  But usually, for me, it’s about traveling to far off places, distant lands far far away. I love to travel and there are sooo many places I would like to visit. Someday… So here’s my layout;

I love the Basically Bare Banners! They are so stinkin cute! I took some patterned paper, roughed and inked up the edges, then covered my chipboard banner pieces with them. I love to mix up the shapes together, it gives it more of an eclectic feel. Add some string and voila!

Super cute and different way to create a word, yes?! Another way of juicin up your chipboard is to cover it with glitter, like this Basically Bare Fanciful Frame here;

Here’s a little tip, you should paint the surface of the chipboard first, that way you don’t see any brown coming through and your color is solid and crisp. Kurtake generously provided some of their Zig Painty FX markers for us to play with, and I used the black on this frame which worked really awesome! Made it look super fancy schmancy! (technical term)

Those fancy frames add just the right amount of pizazz, even if you’re not “framing” anything, don’t you think?

So thank you so much for hangin out, remember to keep dreaming cuz you just never know!  Have an amazing day!

Love, Sarah

Basically Bare + Clearsnap = Beautiful

May 17th, 2012 | By admin in Altered Art, Banners, Dress Forms | 15 Comments »

Hello Fans!! DeeDee here, this time with swap partner Clearsnap!! Take the feel of mother’s day and combine it with the feeling of being a still new mama and you sort of come to my piece for today.

It feels very feminine . My form is up on a pedestal and held very high.. regal like.  She’s bold, beautiful and colorful but very strong.

I always find that the saying “If ain’t broke don’t fix it” is seriously appropriate, and I don’t know how you cover your chipboard with paper.. but here’s how I’ve always done mine:

I grabbed my Basically Bare Dress From and the glitz designs paper I wanted to use.. made sure both the chipboard and the paper were “Wrong side” up.. and traced the piece onto the paper. I didn’t mind about being exactly perfect, as long as I was drawing a little bit big instead of small! Then I cut out the paper and rubbed my chipboard down with a nice clear wet glue. Adhere paper and allow to dry! … now here’s the really good part..

I sand the edges with a green washing pad!! They’re rough enough to be similar to sand paper, but aren’t too rough as to tear the paper. My favorite crafty tip!!

Here are some close ups of the project:

I used the Basically Bare Wings in stiff felt, the yellow is a Clearsnap Cat’s Eye ink pad in Sunflower, and the glitter is Clearsnap Fool’s Gold.
The base of my sculpture is from the Basically Bare Gears set, and is piled with wooden spools, baker’s twine, vintage buttons, tulle and a rose made out of Glitz Designs paper.
The apron for my dress from is actually from the Basically Bare Small Pennants embellishment set. It’s covered in Glitz Designs paper with the same method shown above.. look at that sanded edge!!

Thanks so much for stopping by. -DeeDee

Tanisha – Book Bunch

May 8th, 2012 | By admin in Banners, Mini Albums & Journals, Pennants, Uncategorized | 4 Comments »

Hey there it’s Tanisha, a member of the Book Bunch, here with a really fun mini album that I created to house photos of my 2 rambunctious little boys!

I had the pleasure of working with Dude, a really cool collection from The Paper Loft.   This line has my boys written all over it with it’s clever phrases, distressing, and awesome colors!

I used the Simply Shapely Mixed Media Album, which is just perfect for larger photos and for experimenting with different techniques.  I covered the front cover with patterned paper cut just a tad smaller than the album.  I love to leave some of the natural elements showing when working with these types of album as I think it adds character.

I added a couple of Gears from set 2 to the cover.  I dry embossed both gears and then heat embossed the chipboard gear with WOW embossing powder in Metallic Copper, to give it a rustic look.

Whenever I work with cardboard, I just can’t help myself, I MUST peel pack some of the top layer to reveal the beautiful corrugated layer.  It adds so much texture and acts as a mini canvas.  I used dark brown ink here.

I inked a chipboard button, tied it with jute and layered it on the acrylic gear.

So many ideas come to mind when I look at the felt tag.  I chose to slightly alter it by lightly rubbing with ink and adhering Large Pennants that I covered with patterned paper.  I added my sons’ initials to finish off the look.

I altered the color of this felt button by spritzing it with Lime Glimmer Mist.

I have found the using a hot glue gun on the canvas and felt pages are the best way to adhere elements.

This filmstrip is from the Paparazzi Set.  I added color to it by heat embossing with WOW embossing powder in Ebony.  It really adds a nice glossy finish to the piece.

I used gear masks from Tim Holtz, a few Basically Bare gears, and denim glimmer mist to create the background on the canvas page.

I repeated the same technique on the back, but used Lime glimmer mist.

I used copper embossing powders on the gears (Gears Set 1) to give them a rusty look and then adhered to the acrylic page with brads.  I embossed both sides since I attached them to a clear page.  Yes, the gears actually work, making this a fun interactive page.

Here you can see the back of the gear–I fussy cut elements from patterned paper and adhered them over the center to hide the brad prongs.

Thanks so much for taking a peek at my project today!!

Be sure to visit the Paper Loft and see all their great lines!
