Shadows Of A Thousand Years Wall Hanging

October 28th, 2012 | By JamieP in Altered Art, Mini Albums & Journals | 4 Comments »

Jamie here with you today, and boy oh boy do I have a fun (aka super inky!) project for you today!  I have to admit that I don’t usually do much for Halloween as my favorite holiday is in December.  However, once I sat down to work on this project, I was sucked in with all the fall colors!

So let’s get started showing you how I created this wall hanging.  To start, I simply covered the corrugated Oh So Mini Album page with patterned paper and then inked the edges with black and orange.

Next, I cut a piece of 5in x 5in watercolor paper and gave it a good spritz with Tsukineko’s Goosebumps texture spray.  This does two things for the background.  First, it acts as a resist for the ink that will be added later.  Second, it also adds a really fun texture to the page.

Once the Goosebumps is dry, I started adding liquid watercolors in orange, purple, and black. I just kept adding, layering, and splattering the colors until I was happy with the effect.  Then I mounted the sheet of watercolor to black cardstock and adhered it to the album page.

Next up, I cut out a skeleton and adhered it to the page.  Then I printed the saying, inked the edges, and also adhered it to the page.

Now, on to the embellishments.  I sprayed the felt heart with black ink, then gave it a quick spritz with a glimmer spray. Lastly, I inked the stars with Sweet Melon and Grape Soda Smooch Ink.

For the finishing touches, I added a few crystals and punchinella to the bottom corner and a ribbon hanger at the top.  For a last bit of shimmer, I used a Clear Wink of Stella pen on the skeleton cutout.

Basically Bare items used:

-Bracket Oh So Mini album, corrugated page

-Celestial Shapes Set – felt cloud and chipboard stars

Kuretake items used:

-Zig Millenuim, Pure Black

-Zig Wink Of Stella, Clear

It’s with a very sad heart that I say this is my last post as part of the Basically Bare Design Team.  I have had an absolute blast working with the gals and guy on the team, and will miss everyone.  Wishing all the best for the company in the future!

The Curiosity Crew

August 17th, 2012 | By Rebecca in Page Layouts | 15 Comments »

Hey everyone! Basically Bare is swapping with Authentique this week and I am excited to show you my project! Recently I met up with a friend and her boys for lunch at a local park. The park used to be a quarry and there is a cool, supposedly haunted, tunnel located there. You just have to cross a creek to get to it. So, we dressed the kids in some proper creeking shoes and headed off to explore the darker side of this park. We got some great shots that day, some of them from my spot, standing knee-deep in dirty creek water sweating my hind end off. But hey, that is what a good scrapper does right? Anything for “the shot.”

One of my favorite pictures shows the kids leaning against the tunnel wall. I loved the dark feeling of the picture and I wanted to make it stand out. I turned to the blues and yellows of Authentique’s Curiosity collection. I glued my basic design down to the background first. Then, I poured black paint all over it. It was a little scary, and yes, I could have ended up hating the results. But actually, I think it turned out great! The paint ended up looking a bit like a tar spill. It really works with the papers and picture.

To embellish this picture, nothing could be better than Bare Basics Gears. I lightly distressed the chipboard and corrugated gears with some inks and a White Painty FX Pen from Kuretake. I also layered in a few of the acrylic gears to create depth.

Thank you for joining Basically Bare and Authentique for our swap! Stay tuned for more inspiring projects!

Lazy Summer Days Wall Hanging

July 24th, 2012 | By JamieP in Altered Art | 4 Comments »

Jamie here with you today, and I have a fun wall hanging today using a few of the new CHA Summer 2012 new release Basically Bare items!

The base for the wall hanging is an acrylic page from the Oh So Mini Stamp Album.  To start, I inked the back of the page with Snow Cap alcohol ink.  Then, I ran the page through my Cuttlebug for a bit of texture.  Next, I added a bit green StazOn to the edges of the page and to the raised areas that were created with the Cuttlebug.  The last bit I added to the background was a bit of orange Kurecolor Ink for a bit of contrast color and then a few strips of torn patterned paper.

Now let’s look at how I altered the Basically Bare embellishments.  I started with the felt clouds from the Celestial Set and spritzed them with a bit of water based ink and set them aside to dry.  Once dry, I added a layer of Liquitex Glass Bead Gel Medium, which adds so much wonderful texture to the pieces.  This is one step where you have to have a bit of patience because it takes a couple days for the gel medium to fully dry. For the record, I am not a patient person and was not happy to wait so long to get back to this project, but the end effect is definitely worth the wait. :)

The next thing I added to this project was the mustaches from the Hats and ‘Staches Set.  I covered both of the mustaches with patterned paper, inked the edges, then added a bit or Rock Candy Stickles.  By flipping the mustaches upside down, they make perfect tulips.  I then added a bit of May Arts leaf ribbon to complete the flowers.

To finish this piece, I added a few beads and bells to the bottom.  Now, not only do I have an adorable wall hanging, but it also give a soft jingle when a breeze happens by.

Basically Bare items used:

-Oh So Mini Acrylic Stamp Page

-Hats and ‘Staches Set

-Celestial Shapes Set

Kuretake items used:

-Kurecolor Ink – Orange

Keys To My Heart..

July 15th, 2012 | By Rebecca in Uncategorized | 6 Comments »

Hi everyone, Rebecca here and I am so excited today! Basically Bare has again taken a chance and produced one of my designs. This is a dream come true for me!  It’s an incredible feeling to see your ideas and simple drawings transformed into beautiful embellishments. These jailer’s keys used to live in my head, where I thought they would make versatile pieces that can be used on practically anything. Paint or emboss them to make them metallic, cover them with patterned paper, use one, two, or all to get the impact you’re looking for. The  best part about them is that you can get the look of  clanky metal keys WITHOUT the weight and bulk. These beauties will lay flat in your heritage albums!

The moment I saw these in person I flipped out a bit, they were amazing just by themselves. But I really couldn’t resist working with them so I quickly dug in. I painted the keyring with a Black Painty FX Marker from Kuretake and while it was still wet I sprinkled on both Silver and Metallic Gold  powders from WOW! Embossing Powders. This makes a cool two-tone metallic effect.

I placed the keyring with keys onto a wooden heart I had mod podged scraps of My Mind’s Eye papers onto. After adding a photo of my kids I ended up with this lovely wall hanging.

I couldn’t stop with just one project though. I had a beautiful old photo of my mother and aunt taken back in 1946. It was begging to be scrapped and I thought I would use the black chipboard jailer’s key set as-is for it. I really like this look!

Now that you have seen them in action, do you have ideas for these new Basically Bare jailer’s keys? I’d love to hear how you would use them!

Daisy Daydream

I love taking pictures of my daughter, and happen to think she is the best model in the world! She lights up when the camera comes out and naturally poses so all I have to do is snap away. That makes it easy to get great pictures of my pretty princess. It also ensures I will never run out of lovely pictures to scrap.

The layout I’m sharing today features the Fanciful Frames. I colored them with Roll Top Desk Glimmer Mist from Tattered Angels. When dry, I glued them onto some pretty papers from Lily Bee Designs and cut off any excess paper around the edges. These frames were used to build my design.

To get a faux “woodgrain” effect on the frames, I scribbled over them with a Pure Brown Zig Writer from Kuretake. The effect is pretty cool I think!

YES you can

Hi there, summertime is here with bright and sunny days. In the winter the sun can be gone for days here in Norway. When you know that you have to be creative everyday, it’s good to have a few tricks up your sleeve, to boost that inspiration when you need it the most.So I have made a motivation album for those days. I have left some space on the pages for more words and quotes to be added during the summer. For my inspiration book I’ve used the Funky Findings Album. I love all the different surface and texture in this book. And the envelopes I’ll keep cut outs of images and quotes/texts that inspires me.

I’ve used the moon and cloud from the Celestial Shape Set on the cover. I’ve alteded the cloud with lots of beads and the moon is decorated with acrylic paint and tylle. The black arrow from the Arrows Set show the direction.

On this page I have played with acrylic paint and white Utee.

Tree top from the Happy Little Trees Set.

One black gear from the Gears Set

Here I ‘ve used one piece from the Fleur De Lis Set. I’ve covered parts of it with acrylic paint. The background was given some splashes with black ink and white gesso. I’ve used a pennant shape from the Pennants-Large Set to make a tab. I dry embossed it and then added some Distress Stain to it.

No summer without flowers. Here I’ve used three different sized flowers and leaves from the Blossoms & Leaves Set.  On the left side I’ve added a hearh from the Heart#2 Set.

Some pink fabric from a dress can be used to make a beautiful flower :-) Another pennant shape from the Pennants-Large Set used to make a tab.

Two acrylic stars from the Celestial Shapes Set runned though an embossing folder .

Wishing everybody a beautiful and creative june. Linda

Flower Pots With Momenta And Basically Bare

June 5th, 2012 | By Rebecca in Altered Art | 22 Comments »

Happy Tuesday morning everyone! I am very happy to be a part of the Momenta and Basically Bare swap. I was inspired by the beautiful papers and embellishments of Momenta’s Butterfly Garden collection. I had some wooden flower pots lying around and thought this was the perfect time to use them. Here they are plain, definitely in need of a makeover, right?

I base painted the pots and bottom tray a mustard yellow color first. After thoroughly dry, I traced the   pot shape onto Momenta papers and cut out four sides for each pot. I lightly distressed each edge of the paper pieces before adhering them onto the pots, one side at a time. A little bit of ink on each edge gives it a shabby look.

Now it was time to embellish, so I turned to the Basically Bare Blossoms And Leaves set  and Bare Basics Small Pennants. I used Green, Pink, and Yellow Zig Painty FX Markers to color them. A few cute Momenta Puffy Borders and tags and bling from The Butterfly Garden Sticker Kit finished off the pots. Love how these turned out!

With the pots finished, I just needed to fill them with  some pretty Petunias. Aren’t these sweet? They would make a great neighbor or teacher thank you gift, wouldn’t they? I’m going to keep mine in a sunny spot on my kitchen counter for awhile, they just make me happy!

A Father’s Day Gift With Nikki Sivils!

May 31st, 2012 | By Rebecca in Altered Art | 7 Comments »

As part of this week’s Basically Bare and Nikki Sivils collaboration, I’m excited to share a fun Father’s Day gift idea with you. I got the chance to work with the “Noah” collection from Nikki Sivils. This line is full of bold patterns and colors that are perfect for all the little boys and grown men in your life. I knew immediately that this would  make a wonderful Father’s Day frame.

I began by covering a wooden frame with some of the patterned paper from “Noah”. I colored some Basically Bare Small Pennants with Kuretake Yellow and Light Blue Zig Painty FX markers and glued them to the top of the frame. I added the Father’s Day scallop and tie shaped die cuts onto the pennants.

After adding a photo, I grounded it with Bare Basics Buttons that I had covered with more of the Nikki Sivils “Noah” patterned papers. Tying twine through the button holes adds lovely texture to the frame.

My kids cannot wait until Father’s Day, they are ready to give this frame to their daddy!

Camp Sweet Camp

May 23rd, 2012 | By Rebecca in Altered Art | 3 Comments »

Our family loves going camping. There is just something about being outside and enjoying the fresh air. We love fishing, the smell of the campfire, swimming, roasting marshmallows and making yummy grilled food. This year, I thought it would be nice to make something for our campsite. I turned to products from The Paper Loft, Kuretake, and, of course, Basically Bare to bring this cute camp sign to life.

I used a corrugated page from the Betty’s Brackets album as the base of this project. I covered it with paper from the Scattered Pine Mountain collection from The Paper Loft. To color a Basically Bare Happy Little Tree, I used a Pure Brown Zig Writer and a Green Zig Fabricolor Twin marker from Kuretake.

On the tree, I covered Bare Basics Buttons with paper from the Hunting Accessory Sheet from The Paper Loft. I love this paper because it lists things you would have with you if you were camping, and that makes it perfect for this “Camp Sweet Camp” sign!

Be sure to check out the Paper Loft and see all of their great lines!

Rainbow Road!

April 4th, 2012 | By admin in Altered Art, By Product, By Project Type, Uncategorized | 14 Comments »

Hello everyone!! DeeDee here, and I’m so excited to be here, so excited and so HONORED that Basically Bare chose me as a 2012 Design Team Member — this team is full of the most amazingly talented people and run by the most generous individuals.. The whole team is full of inspiration and creativity! There’s nothing more I could ask for when it comes to being part of a team — and today I have for you my first post as “An Art Assembler” !!

I decided it was time I create a rainbow road for my mantle.. and so I pulled out my Happy Little House Set and set to work!

I grabbed some distress ink in Broken China, Festive Berries, Peeled Paint, Vintage Photo, Spiced Marmalade, Dusty Concord, and Mustard Seed. I also used Distress Stain in Wild Honey, Broken China, and Spun Sugar. After all my distressing was done.. spritzing of the water included.. I grabbed a Viva Las Vegastamps! stamp and gave the yellow house a bit of oomph with a chicken wire background. Then I glued on all doors and grabbed my Kuretake ZIG Writer in Brown — because it was a little compared to the other browns on the houses I went over it a couple of times. Using the marker I added sketch lines to certain parts of the doors giving them a little extra life.

Then.. decorate each house.. The green got buttons and twine. The yellow got old book butterflies cut using the martha stewart punch. The orange house got a giant ribbon dyed in the same colors and tied through a giant vintage button. Red got a vintage tape measure and a dymo label “HOME”. Purple got a handmade flower, and blue got a Tim Holtz idealogy clock configuration with lots of Tattered Angels Glimmer Glaze in Waterfall.

You may also notice that two of my houses have their fires going.. Green’s smoke was made from a Qtip, and the blue house’s was made from some beautiful mini aqua colored tinsel.

Here is an up close shot of the stamped chipboard and of the ZIG sketching.

Here you can really see how wonderful the distress ink acts on chipboard.. those splotches are made from spritzed water after the ink has dried.

And here are all my pretty little houses in a pretty little row! If you were going to move in.. which would you choose?
