Bella Blvd Christmas Wish List

November 30th, 2012 | By Rebecca in By Product, Embellishment Sets, Hearts, Page Layouts | 5 Comments »

Hi everyone, Rebecca here!

Today I’m sharing a layout that features my sweet daughter’s Christmas wishlist. The Bella Blvd Christmas Wishes collection has such great embellishment stickers. I loved the Dear Santa notepad sticker and I gave it to my daughter so she could write up her wishlist. This is the perfect way to preserve her list in my scrapbook.

I used a frame from the Basically Bare Fanciful Frames II set to showcase a picture of my daughter next to her wishlist.

Bare Basics Hearts seemed like the perfect choice to embellish this page as well. I covered them with Bella Blvd Christmas Wishes paper.

Christmas Cheer

October 1st, 2012 | By JamieP in Hearts, Page Layouts | No Comments »

It seems like everyone I know is gearing up for Halloween.  But, I’m rebelling!  Just don’t tell the other guys and gals here, you wouldn’t want to get me in trouble would you? :)  Jamie here with you today showing a fun way to mix and match the embellishments from several different sets.

First up, I used two stars from the Celestial Set.  Both were inked in gold, then layered one on top of the other.

Next, I used one of each size of the felt hearts to create a Christmas tree.  I simply turned them upside down and slightly overlapped them at the points of the hearts.  Each was inked with two different shades of green.  For the decorations, I added a bit of May Arts twine and a few crystals.

For the tree trunk, I used a corrugated piece from the Climbing Ivy set.  I pulled the top layer off the piece and then spritzed it with Glimmer Mist. Lastly, I added a small piece of tulle.

Looking at a side view, you can see all of the dimension in this piece!  With all festive ways to use your Basically Bare embellies, are you starting to get in a festive mood?

Basically Bare items used:

-Celestial Shapes

-Hearts Set 2

-Climbing Ivy Set

Cool Kids

September 5th, 2012 | By Rebecca in Page Layouts, Uncategorized | 3 Comments »

Hey Everyone! Rebecca here, ready to share a cool idea for the Bare Basics Gears. I had a photo of my kids standing front of an old tunnel. It had quite a bit of graffiti on the walls. To pull that detail out of the photo, I splattered different colors of paint onto some of the Bare Basics Gears.

A Bare Basics Heart was the perfect thing for my title. I love the mixture of feminine shapes and colors with this photo.

What do you think of this “graffiti-esque” technique? Will you try it?

This Is Love..

We got a new member of the family last month, a sweet little kitten we named Lola. She has brought us much joy and laughter, and then she suddenly got sick. Very sick. For two days I thought she wasn’t going to make it . But she pulled through and is getting stronger every single day! I am so happy and I celebrated by scrapping a photo of the day we brought her home.

I used six Bare Basics Hearts on this page. I covered most of them with silver glittery paper. I like the diva-ish color combination of pink, black, and silver for Lola. She can be spunky!

A Happy Home

Jamie here with you again today with an 8×11 canvas.  This canvas was made specifically for Summer CHA and I’m finally sharing with those who could not attend. I can’t tell you how much fun I had working on this piece!  I haven’t made a lot of canvases, so working on something different really allowed me to play and experiement with different techniques.

Let’s start with the background first.  I am very impatient when it comes to waiting for mixed media pastes and gels to dry, so I did something a bit different.  I took several colors of Distress Ink pads and swiped them across the canvas until it was fully covered.  Then I gave the entire canvas a good spritz with water and let the inks run.  I just kept adding ink and spritzing with water until I was happy with the result.  Then, using WOW embossing powders and a Crafter’s Workshop template, I heat embossed the circles on the background.

Next, I started adding all of the dimensional pieces.  Using a WOW stamp and embossing powder, I heat embossed a canvas heart.  Then I simply flicked some ink on the heart for a splattered effect.  I found some old letters in my stash which I painted and ran through my Cuttlebug for dimension.

Next, on to the houses.  The green house is covered with layers of Washi tape, and then the edges have been embossed.  The yellow house was inked with Tattered Angels and then heat embossed. The last house on the right is covered with layers of Ranger’s Tissue Tape, then a thick layer of Crackle Paint.  Once the paint was dry, I inked over all the cracks with Distress Ink.  And to keep the paint from flaking off, I gave it a good spray with an acrylic sealer.

The flowers were created by stamping onto Clearly For Art Modeling Film,  inked with alcohol ink, and then cut out.  I then heated the film with my heat tool, and while it was still hot, carefully molded the leaves so they had lots of dimension.

Lastly, I added a bit of punchinella and word strips to complete the saying.  The  word strips were outlined with a Zig Millenium pen.

Basically Bare items used:

-Happy Little Houses Set

-Canvas and Felt Heart Set 2

WOW items used:

-Gummy Bear Green embossing powder

-Sour Lemon embossing powder

-Sierra Sunrise embossing glitter

-Gratitude Stamp Set

Tattered Angels item used:

-Yellow Daisy Glimmer Mist

Kuretake item used

-Zig Millenium pen

Layout: Owl Always Love You

May 30th, 2012 | By Kristin in Hearts, Page Layouts, Uncategorized | 11 Comments »

Hello! Kristin here with a fun and simple layout to share with you for the Basically Bare/Nikki Sivils swap!

The feature of this simple layout is that fun little owl in the upper left hand corner. I love creating detailed embellishments and placing them on simple layouts where their beauty can really shine.

Owl Always Love You
Owl Always Love You

A grid design always lends very well to layouts in which you want something specific to stand out. In my grid I have the little owl, as well as my photo, my title, and one more plain chipboard embellishment to keep everything even.

Owl Always Love You

Even though he took some time–this little guy is very easy to make. I started out with the Owl set and covered the base of the owl with the brown dotted paper paper from the Messages collection. I also covered the wings with teal paper, and then a smaller piece of yellow paper for extra detail.

Also from the Owl set are the felt eyes, which I dotted with a black Zig FX painty marker. I cut a diamond shaped chipboard nose and covered that with the same yellow paper. The feet were made by cutting the bottoms off the heart keys from the LoveLY lockets collection.

Owl Always Love You

I added extra detail to all the outer edges. The outside of the owl and wings were sanded and then painted over with a white Zig Painty FX marker to give him more depth. I used a Zig Millennium pen to dash the outside of the wing detail.

And a quick look at the heart and arrow embellishment in the lower right hand corner.

DeeDee’s Nikki Sivils Goodness

May 30th, 2012 | By admin in Altered Art, Hearts, Pennants, Uncategorized | 9 Comments »

So many posts this month I feel famous!! I got super lucky and got a spot in the Nikki Sivils Swap — I was sent the “Exit Here” collection to work with.

To make my little “containers” (which happen to be full of vintage ribbon.. perfect for a mantle or kitchen table center piece!) I cut three of the patterned papers to 7.25 x 4 inches. Roll the paper to overlap about 1/4 inch and glue. Then flatten one edge, glue and cut with decorative scissors! If you’re thinking of using an edge punch I suggest punching BEFORE you glue :)

This baby uses the patterned paper, and die cuts from the sheet in the collection pack. It also uses A large chipboard pennant piece from the Basic Embellies Large Pennant pack which was covered in other pieces of patterned paper from Nikki’s collection pack. It has a double layer cut slightly smaller on top.

This one uses 2 more of the die cuts, some May Arts ribbon and a canvas heart from the Basically Embellies Heart Set 2. I dabbed some Pumice Stone distress stain and Spun Sugar distress stain on my teflon mat, spritzed with water and then dipped the heart into it.

And the third one utilizes LOTS of the die cuts, some pop dots and the perfectly round tree top from the Basically Embellies Happy Little Trees set. I used a crop-o-dile to punch holes in the felt and ran a Zig Yellow Painty FX pen through the holes to give them a bit of color.. I thought the yellow might be TOO yellow, so I went over it with a White Painty FX pen after it was dry :)

Here you can see the layering and “popping”

Enjoy!! -DeeDee

Erin’s Message

May 30th, 2012 | By admin in Banners, Hearts, Uncategorized | 10 Comments »

Hi everyone, it’s Erin here.  Today I’m sharing a scrapbook layout I did using Niki Sivills “Message” line and some great Basically Bare products!

I used some of the chipboard Basically Embellies Bare Large Basics Pennants and ran them through my embossing machine.  Then I just ran an ink pad over the top of them to highlight the embossing.  And then I put a bit of Tattered Angels Glimmer Glam on each of them.

I also took one of the corrugated cardboard Basically Embellies Bare Basics Hearts from Set #1 and stripped off the top layer and then brushed on some more of the Glimmer Glam onto it.  I also added a Basically Embellies Bare Basics Retro Arrow to it too.

I also created a little embellishment cluster in the upper corner.  I love that typewriter!

Fly Away Necklace

May 5th, 2012 | By admin in Altered Art, Hearts | 6 Comments »

Hi everyone, it’s Erin again!

Today I’m sharing a necklace/pin I made that Kathy Cano-Murillo inspired me to make awhile ago and I just never got around to it.  -I’m sure none of you can relate to that, LOL!  Here’s what the finished piece looks like:

This project is almost 100% Basically Bare product,  I used the following Basically Embellies: Bare Basic Wings, LOVELY Locket Set, Bare Basic Hears Set #1.  The only other supplies I used were tin tape (from the hardware store), craft foam, adhesive, a tiny bit of fiber paste, a bit of acrylic paint, and a black Sharpie.

I used Kathy’s embossed foil technique to create the main heart piece.

To make the smaller chipboard lock piece,  I covered it with the tin tape without adding any foam to it and then I put it inside an embossing folder and ran it though my embossing machine.  I then finished it off the same way I did the heart, by scribbling with a Sharpie all over it and then rubbing the marker off with a baby wipe.

I covered the wings with a thin coat of fiber paste and then scratched lines into it and let it dry.  Then I painted it with acrylic paints.

For the felt key hole,  I painted it with the acrylic paint and used a paper towel to fluff up the felt before it dried.  Once it was dry I used the fine tip of the Sharpie to draw faux stitch lines onto it…and a heart too.

Then I just assembled it all together using some Beacon adhesive and one square of foam adhesive to pop up the chipboard lock piece.

I covered the backside of the heart and wings with more tin tape and then just doodled over them quickly with a bamboo shishkabob skewer.  I then added a clip to the back so that I could either clip it to my shirt or to a necklace.  I like versatility!!

And now I have a great handmade piece to wear!

Kite Flying with Pink Paislee

April 28th, 2012 | By admin in Hearts, Page Layouts, Pennants | 14 Comments »

Hello everybody! Today I wanted to share with you a page I created with Basically Bare and Pink Paislee. Working with the Prairie Hill collection was so much fun! They had a kite flying theme to their products and I just went with it J.  I made some kite embellishments for my page and yes, I might have gone a little off the deep end with them, but seriously, piling on the layers was so much fun! Let me show you…

For the larger kite I started with polka dot paper (love the blue and grey!) and layered with the felt scalloped circle from the Happy Little Trees set. I colored the edge yellow with the fabric markers from Kuretake. To that I added a cardboard heart. I was going for a shabby chic, whimsical look so I exposed the corrugation and dabbed with gesso.  Lastly I piled on some flowers, buttons, thread and tucked in a cute banner from the Small Pennants set.

For the second kite I layered with the same shapes but in different materials…canvas and chipboard (how nice is that to have all those options!). I topped this kite off with that very cute dimensional accolade sticker from Pink Paislee.

The Prairie Hill collection came with so many great patterns and elements. I hand cut some different shapes using the different patterened papers to frame my photo and used my Zig Writer pen to doodle their borders. I used the “Up up and away” stamp to add movement behind the kites. Lastly I added a subtitle to my layout with their adorable alphas.

Well that’s my page for today! Hope you enjoyed it!
