Shadows Of A Thousand Years Wall Hanging

October 28th, 2012 | By JamieP in Altered Art, Mini Albums & Journals | 4 Comments »

Jamie here with you today, and boy oh boy do I have a fun (aka super inky!) project for you today!  I have to admit that I don’t usually do much for Halloween as my favorite holiday is in December.  However, once I sat down to work on this project, I was sucked in with all the fall colors!

So let’s get started showing you how I created this wall hanging.  To start, I simply covered the corrugated Oh So Mini Album page with patterned paper and then inked the edges with black and orange.

Next, I cut a piece of 5in x 5in watercolor paper and gave it a good spritz with Tsukineko’s Goosebumps texture spray.  This does two things for the background.  First, it acts as a resist for the ink that will be added later.  Second, it also adds a really fun texture to the page.

Once the Goosebumps is dry, I started adding liquid watercolors in orange, purple, and black. I just kept adding, layering, and splattering the colors until I was happy with the effect.  Then I mounted the sheet of watercolor to black cardstock and adhered it to the album page.

Next up, I cut out a skeleton and adhered it to the page.  Then I printed the saying, inked the edges, and also adhered it to the page.

Now, on to the embellishments.  I sprayed the felt heart with black ink, then gave it a quick spritz with a glimmer spray. Lastly, I inked the stars with Sweet Melon and Grape Soda Smooch Ink.

For the finishing touches, I added a few crystals and punchinella to the bottom corner and a ribbon hanger at the top.  For a last bit of shimmer, I used a Clear Wink of Stella pen on the skeleton cutout.

Basically Bare items used:

-Bracket Oh So Mini album, corrugated page

-Celestial Shapes Set – felt cloud and chipboard stars

Kuretake items used:

-Zig Millenuim, Pure Black

-Zig Wink Of Stella, Clear

It’s with a very sad heart that I say this is my last post as part of the Basically Bare Design Team.  I have had an absolute blast working with the gals and guy on the team, and will miss everyone.  Wishing all the best for the company in the future!

Enchanted

September 15th, 2012 | By Beth in Altered Art, Dress Forms | 8 Comments »

Good morning, y’all!  It’s September now, which means I am fully into what I like to call my “Come ON, Halloween!” phase.  And all my projects that I’m working on at the moment are definitely showing it, including this little treat box.  It started its life as a cardboard book.  You know, those little fake books that usually have hideous designs on the outside and don’t look a thing like a book?  Yep.  One of those.

I painted it with black acrylic paint and then covered it with some fantastic Authentique papers.  I think this is my favorite Halloween paper collection this year, and that’s saying quite a lot.  I used a Ranger Acrylic Paint Dabber to distress the edges of the papers that covered the box.

The Basically Bare chipboard pieces (from the Fanciful Frames and Celestial Shapes sets) were covered with more Authentique paper for some Orange contrast to the black and white.  The stars could not have been any more perfect for a Halloween project, and they’ll be just as perfect when I start the Christmas crafts!  That’s why I love ‘em!

The striped paper inside the frame is embellished with some little random flourishes which were made with a Zig Painty FX pen.

The top was embellished with some great spider-y flowers, black lace, and the top of a black feathered floral stem.  I’m a big fan of shopping for crafty project materials in the floral department of my local craft store.

The last bit that was added on was a strip of adhesive gems all around the sides for some glitz and shine.  And now it’s ready to sit on my table and hold some Halloween candy!  If anyone wants to estimate how much of that candy will see the beginning of October, I’d say the safest bet is “not even the lame candy that no one usually wants.”

That’s all for me today.  I hope you are all getting into the fall (HALLOWEEN! HALLOWEEN!!  HALLOWEEEEEEEEN!!!) spirit.  Thanks so much for stopping by!

x Beth

Lazy Summer Days Wall Hanging

July 24th, 2012 | By JamieP in Altered Art | 4 Comments »

Jamie here with you today, and I have a fun wall hanging today using a few of the new CHA Summer 2012 new release Basically Bare items!

The base for the wall hanging is an acrylic page from the Oh So Mini Stamp Album.  To start, I inked the back of the page with Snow Cap alcohol ink.  Then, I ran the page through my Cuttlebug for a bit of texture.  Next, I added a bit green StazOn to the edges of the page and to the raised areas that were created with the Cuttlebug.  The last bit I added to the background was a bit of orange Kurecolor Ink for a bit of contrast color and then a few strips of torn patterned paper.

Now let’s look at how I altered the Basically Bare embellishments.  I started with the felt clouds from the Celestial Set and spritzed them with a bit of water based ink and set them aside to dry.  Once dry, I added a layer of Liquitex Glass Bead Gel Medium, which adds so much wonderful texture to the pieces.  This is one step where you have to have a bit of patience because it takes a couple days for the gel medium to fully dry. For the record, I am not a patient person and was not happy to wait so long to get back to this project, but the end effect is definitely worth the wait. :)

The next thing I added to this project was the mustaches from the Hats and ‘Staches Set.  I covered both of the mustaches with patterned paper, inked the edges, then added a bit or Rock Candy Stickles.  By flipping the mustaches upside down, they make perfect tulips.  I then added a bit of May Arts leaf ribbon to complete the flowers.

To finish this piece, I added a few beads and bells to the bottom.  Now, not only do I have an adorable wall hanging, but it also give a soft jingle when a breeze happens by.

Basically Bare items used:

-Oh So Mini Acrylic Stamp Page

-Hats and ‘Staches Set

-Celestial Shapes Set

Kuretake items used:

-Kurecolor Ink – Orange

Hey papercraftin peeps! Sarah here with a fun little layout to share! I couldn’t wait to make something with the Basically Bare felt clouds, they are sooo cute! I thought they would be perfect paired up with a brand new gorgeous little baby! :) Aren’t new babies so precious? Especially when they’re sleeping haha! This little guy is a new addition to my family, and I was lucky enough to catch one of those adorable newborn smirks with my camera, I was so excited!

Look at that face! Ugh! So adorable! Now, I know this is a SUPER simple layout (gasp!), but I just really wanted to keep the focus on the photo and the “starry sky.” I jazzed up the clouds a little with some Stickles and doily remnants, and I wanted to hang some Basically Bare stars but I couldn’t do that without prettying them up first with my white Zig Painty FX pen and glitter of course!

Those paint markers from Kurtake work awesome on the chipboard shapes, they turned out pretty cute! What do you think he’s dreaming about?

Some people say that when babies smile it’s just gas, but I don’t believe that for a second ;) I think he was actually happy that he finally got to meet his Aunty RahRah… Thanks for hangin out and have an amazing day!

Love, Sarah

Be Awesome Today

Hi Everyone! Kristin here :)

I’m excited to share a layout that I had so much fun making. I pulled together a combination of Basically Bare goodies and Pink Paislee’s Spring Jubilee collection.

Basically Bare and Pink Paislee layout by Kristin Tweedale

The bright colors of Spring Jubilee really pop on neutral backgrounds, so I grabbed the newspaper patterned sheet as my background and worked from there.  I added some Pink Paislee rub-ons (Spring Jubilee and She Art collections) to the neutral background, and matted the entire layout on bright green patterned paper.

I loved the idea of painting the Basically Bare chipboard Frames a stark black (using the amazing Zig black painty markers) and using them to frame the ultra bright pink and blue papers. The Zig painty markers really do make it super easy to paint chipboard. I keep them right on my desk at all times. I also used them to paint over the foam Thickers in my title, easily making my own coordinating alpha!

I used three separate frames: one for my photo (approx. 4×6) and then two more for the patterned papers.  After backing the frames, I played around with the arrangement a little until I was satisfied.

As you can see I stacked the center frame with the photo, on top of the two other frames. This gave the layout a lot of dimension right at the focal point.

One of my favorite parts of this layout is this little embellishment cluster to the bottom left of the photo.  The acrylic heart is a part of the LOVEly locket set, I trimmed off the lock piece at the top, and I was left with a clear acrylic heart. Also in the cluster are a chipboard star from the Celestial Shapes collection as well as a chipboard button from the Buttons collection; those are both covered with a coordinating patterned paper from the Spring Jubilee collection.

I added Pink Paislee ‘She Art’ rub-ons to the top of both the acrylic heart and the chipboard star, just to give it a little bit more of a artsy, textured feel.

Thank you so much for letting me share my layout with all of you today!

Lots of Love,

Tanisha’s Tiny Tabs Album

February 7th, 2012 | By admin in Mini Albums & Journals | 5 Comments »

Happy Tuesday everyone!!  So, it’s been a week since CHA ended and our DT has been overloading you with inspiration featuring tons of new Basically Bare products.   Today, I’m sharing the completely adorable tiny tabs mini album.

I used a couple of stars from  Bare Basics Celestial Shapes and buttons from Bare Basics Buttons, Petaloo flowers, Graphic 45 papers and embellishment, and WOW embossing Powders to bring this together.   What I love most about this album is the multi media element.  The covers are made from cardboard and the pages from thin chipboard and acrylic that made it easy to use my favorite techniques.

I used WOW’s brocade stamp and earthtone olive on the covers.  I wanted to give them a distressed look, so I tore away some of the cardboard to expose the ridges and then inked them using black ink.  To add shine to my flowers, I spritzed with some glimmer mist.

Isn’t that stamp amazing?

Here are the inside pages of the album.   I covered the pages with patterned paper before adding photos.

I gave each of the acrylic pages a different treatment after painting the edges.  For this page, I heat embossed using WOW Opaque White powder.  NOTE:  Be extremely careful when embossing arcylic.  It’s imperative to keep the heat gun moving rapidly to avoid warping, though some may occur.  This technique works better on Basically Bare’s larger elements.

I swiped acrylic paint across this acrylic page and then added a photo.

I love the look of rub-ons on an acrylic page.  They are easy to apply and look great on both sides!

I trimmed a piece of Hambly transparency to the size of this acrylic page and then adhered it with glue dots.  I think it adds flair so much flair to the photo beneath it.

Close-ups of the transparent pages.

Thanks so much for stopping by today.  Until next post…

Parisian Love Card

December 14th, 2011 | By admin in Cards | 2 Comments »

Isn’t the combination of pinks and blacks just beautiful? Reminds me so much of Paris, and why? I haven’t a clue. So today I’ve got a card to share with you using the LOVEly locket set.

Hi everyone, Erika Taylor here today and I’m in heaven!!! These little lockets are beautiful and so stinkin fun to emboss and paint. For this card I used the swirls embossing folder, silver embossing powder and paint. I layered them up and alternated the colors to give contrast. I think this is my favorite thing to do with the Basically Bare chipboard. So off to the Parisian races we go…

A little Diamond Dust over top to give it a bit of a vintage feel and this is the end resultSo pretty and very different.

Here is a close up of the embossing so you can see how well the chipboard from Basically Bare takes to this technique.

What a fun technique to do. I had so much fun doing this, that I had to create a little ornament using it and the Stars from the Celestial Shapes pack.

Well, that is all for me today. Thanks so much for stopping by the Basically Bare Blog. I hope that I’ve inspired you a little to emboss emboss emboss those CHIPPIES!!!

Until next time

Toodles
