Thanks Turkey!

November 27th, 2012 | By Marilyn in Altered Art, Cupcakes, Happy Little Hosues, Uncategorized | 3 Comments »

Good morning, Marilyn here with a new creation especially for you.  When I think of Thanksgiving, I think of turkey, pies, and home.  So, with that in mind, I created the following 4×6.

I started with a piece of mechanical board (a fave of mine) and covered it with alternating strips of Bella Blvd’s Homey and Trees (backside) paper.  I then edged the top and bottom using Bella Blvd’s designer paper tape.  It gives a nice finished edge to the piece.

Then I made a pie.  I started with a Basically Bare Stack-a-Bellies cupcake with a felt top.  I trimmed up the bottom piece just a bit on the top of the sides and colored it with Espresso acrylic paint.  Then using a Snow Cap paint dabber, I pounced the paint on the white felt top.  I wanted the slightly uneven coverage this gave.  Finally, I carefully painted on two slits.   Moving the top further down on the bottom turned the cupcake into a pie!

To make my banner, I used the some of the doors from Basically Bare’s Happy Little Houses set.  I ran a Snow Cap paint dabber across the chipboard, going for a streaked appearance to imitate a painted wood board.  I then used the “THANKS” sticker from Bella Blvd’s Thankful sticker sheet.

Hope you enjoy my project for today!  Until later………………Smiles~

May Arts and Basically Bare Fun From Jen

August 22nd, 2012 | By admin in Altered Art, Dress Forms | 4 Comments »

Jen Matott here to share a fun project that I did with May Arts ribbon and Basically Bare products!

I had some of our Gears left over from a previous project and added in some of our new frames and a hat!  The dressform was so much fun to alter!!!  Here are some close ups of my Steampunk wall hanging!

The cardboard dress form from Basically Bare was altered by ripping some of the top layer off, stamped with a VersaMark pad and embossed with WOW embossing powder in Ultra Gold first.  I then did the same with Copper Regular powders.  Finally, I stamped some text

from the Rubber Cafe’s Steampunk set and embossing it with Black Glint powder.  The skirt was made with 1/2 a doily folded around and then a ruffle of May Arts 2″ Solid Stripe ribbon with a pretty bow around her middle!

Here’s the cute little black top hat from Basically Bare’s Hats & Staches set.  I just tied a piece of May Arts Faux Linen ribbon through a metal gear and glued some feathers and a stick pin in for a fun Steampunk look.

The backing board is a piece of chipboard that I covered with tissue pattern and modeling paste through a stencil of gears (Prima).  I added some Faber Castell Design Memory Craft Gelatos in Champagne. The rest of the gears were embossed with WOW Embossing powder, stamps from Rubber Cafe (Steampunk set), and metal circles and Rubber Cafe bling.

The acrylic frame is stamped with StazOn using the same stamps.  I also stamped the wing and embossed with copper power and colored the rest with Black Licorice Gelato. I added a felt key embossed in silver and some pewter brads too! The final touch was some of the May Arts ribbon looped through a book ring for hanging and attached to the back of the piece.  The bottom piece was cut with a ribbon edge for a pretty finish!

This was so fun to make and I absolutely LOVE May Arts ribbon!  It is so lush and gorgeous!  Hope you enjoyed my Steampunk wall hanging!

Mixed Media Banner

July 26th, 2012 | By admin in Altered Art, Mini Albums & Journals | 3 Comments »

Jen Matott here with a fun project that I did with the new Oh So Mini Albums.  I mixed the Scallop and Rounded pieces together for a fun banner!  I love the different materials that these albums are made of and how materials react differently to the different surfaces.

This banner was so fun to make and I loved how it came out after stringing it together. Let’s take a look at some of the individual pieces:

This canvas piece was left bare and I used a Crafter’s Workshop cloud stencil with Faber Castell Design Memory Craft Gelatos in Silver Ice and Blueberry with a sponge brush. I then dripped some embossing medium onto the canvas and added WOW Embossing powders in Black Glint, Cotton Candy, and Platinum.

One of the clear acrylic pieces that I embossed using my Cuttlebug and embossing folders then sprayed with the Tattered Angels sprays that were inspired by Basically Bare in Coconut Shell.

This cardboard piece was created with a brick template and VersaMark with WOW Embossing powders mixed and layered. I started with Cable Car Red and then layered Black Glint and some Copper. I then added the “Journey” Stamp and embossed with Bright White. The dots are Gelatos through a stencil and then dripped some Gelatos mixed with water from the top.

Another canvas piece with WOW stamps using Faber Castell Design Memory Craft Pitt artist pens and Gelatos through a circle stencil.

This is one of my favorites. A chipboard rounded piece with a Prima script stamp using Faber Castell Pitt Artist pen and then flames embossed over top with a stencil and WOW Embossing Powders in Cable Car Red, Black Glint, and Copper. I also embossed the doily with Ultra High Gold WOW embossing powder. The stamped frame and words are from WOW and embossed as well.

Lots of embossing and stamping here… then layers of ribbon cut papers and dripping embossing powders and a framed saying attached. I also embossed and added the cardboard and chipboard circle waste from the holes in the mini pieces for more texture. I love that I can peel the cardboard to reveal the corregated parts.

Finally another acrylic piece that was stamped with StazOn and embossed through the Cuttlebug again and sprayed with Tattered Angels.

I hope you liked my banner made from Oh So Mini album pieces!  I had so much fun making it and it was at CHA in the WOW Embossing Powder booth this month!

Party Time!

June 7th, 2012 | By JamieP in Altered Art, Birds, Cards | 15 Comments »

Welcome back to another day of Basically Bare and Momenta goodness!  Jamie here, and boy do I have a lot to show you today.

I have so many friends and family members with birthdays coming up that I wanted to make a fun set of items that I could use.  So hold onto your hats, I have three items that will spruce up the birthday party.

To start with, I have a super adorable gift canister and birthday card.  The canister features the Fanciful Frames Set and Basically Embellie Bird.  The card also has a piece from the Fanciful Frames Set  and also uses the Celestial Shapes.   Now, let me show you how the gift canister was created.

1. To start, I upcycled a plastic canister I was no longer using.

2. Cut your patterned paper to the size of the canister, then adhere to the  canister.

3. Add a pom-pom trim to the top of the canister.

4. Wrap a piece of contrasting paper around the middle of the canister.  Next, paint the smallest piece from the Fanciful Frames set with a Zig Painty FX pen in black and let dry.  Once dry, add a thin layer of glue around the edges of the frame and then add black glitter.  Must not forget to add a bit of glitter :)

5. Cover a chipboard bird with patterned paper and add a small dot of black Enamel Accents for the eye. Then adhere the bird to the frame.

6. Lastly, adhere the frame to the cylinder and then tuck in a small vine behind the frame.

Next up is bright birthday card.  How cute is this?  Lots of layers of Momenta patterned paper and Basically Bare chipboard.  I used the same technique on the chipboard frame on the card as I did on the canister, just to tie the two pieces together.  The chipboard sun was heat embossed with WOW Sierra Sunrise Embossing Glitter.

And now to the last pieces, three pinwheels.  Every birthday party needs pinwheels, right?

These pinwheels make the perfect party favor!  And tucked tight in the middle of each one is a Basically Embellies Button that has been inked with alcohol based ink.

Bring on the next birthday, I’m ready to go!

Supplies Used:

Basically Bare – Fanciful Frames, Buttons, Birds, Celestial Set

Momenta – Animal Print Paper Pack, Peace Mini Puffy Icon Sticker, Zebra Print Sticker Pack

Kuretake – Zig Painty FX in Black, Kurecolor Ink in Orange

Celebrate Today!

June 1st, 2012 | By admin in Altered Art, Cupcakes, Uncategorized | 8 Comments »

Hi everyone!  Erin here again.

I believe everyday should be celebrated!  Here’s a simple framed piece of wall decor that I made to go along with that theme.

I used some pretty background papers and sewed them together with my sewing machine.  Then I cut out the “celebrate today” text twice using my Silhouette Cameo…once on brown cardstock and once on black cardstock.  When I glued to two layers together I let the black peek out a tiny bit behind the brown to give it a bit of a shadow.

And then I was ready to make the cupcake using the Basically Bare Stack-A-Bellies Cupcakes.  I love that the pack had piece that are felt, chipboard, and cardboard…I used the felt frosting, the cardboard cake, and the chipboard wrapper.  They looked so cute all stacked up that I really didn’t have to do too much to them.  I just “wallpapered” the chipboard wrapper and added a few embellishments.

I love that they are so dimensional when stacked up!!  It looks so cool,  especially when I added the glass back into the frame.  (I removed the glass from the frame to take photos with out a glare.)

And here is the final piece!

Have an awesome day!!

Erin’s Message

May 30th, 2012 | By admin in Banners, Hearts, Uncategorized | 10 Comments »

Hi everyone, it’s Erin here.  Today I’m sharing a scrapbook layout I did using Niki Sivills “Message” line and some great Basically Bare products!

I used some of the chipboard Basically Embellies Bare Large Basics Pennants and ran them through my embossing machine.  Then I just ran an ink pad over the top of them to highlight the embossing.  And then I put a bit of Tattered Angels Glimmer Glam on each of them.

I also took one of the corrugated cardboard Basically Embellies Bare Basics Hearts from Set #1 and stripped off the top layer and then brushed on some more of the Glimmer Glam onto it.  I also added a Basically Embellies Bare Basics Retro Arrow to it too.

I also created a little embellishment cluster in the upper corner.  I love that typewriter!

Be sure to visit the Nikki Sivils Blog and check out all the great goodies their team has today and tomorrow for our hop!

Clothe Yourself Dress Form Canvas

May 12th, 2012 | By admin in Altered Art, Blossoms and Leaves, Dress Forms | 6 Comments »

Hi everyone, it’s Erin posting again today.  :)

Who likes vintage?   Of course I do, but with a modern twist!  Sewing manikins are still hot in the crafting world and so I thought I’d create a canvas with one using one of the Basically Embellies Dress Forms.

I stared off by painting a 5″ x 7″ canvas using some of my favorite paints and stencils.

Then I pulled out three of the canvas leaves, and one of the small chipboard flowers from the Basically Embellies Bare Basics Blossoms & Leaves, and one of the bodices from the Dress Form set and painted them up.  While they were drying I covered the skirt of  the dress form with the chevron zig-zag paper.  I then adhered the dress form onto the canvas with matte regular gel medium…it’s nice and thick so I can “slope” the edges around the chipboard since it dries clear, and then paint over it.

See the wet gel medium around the dress form? I like to "slope" the edges.

Then I just adhered the “leaves” onto the skirt with some more gel medium and added a few embellishments too.

I was careful to only adhere the tops of the leaves onto the canvas so that the bottoms could have some dimension.

And then I just finished it off by stamping on a scripture verse and adding some finishing touches.

Fly Away Necklace

May 5th, 2012 | By admin in Altered Art, Hearts | 6 Comments »

Hi everyone, it’s Erin again!

Today I’m sharing a necklace/pin I made that Kathy Cano-Murillo inspired me to make awhile ago and I just never got around to it.  -I’m sure none of you can relate to that, LOL!  Here’s what the finished piece looks like:

This project is almost 100% Basically Bare product,  I used the following Basically Embellies: Bare Basic Wings, LOVELY Locket Set, Bare Basic Hears Set #1.  The only other supplies I used were tin tape (from the hardware store), craft foam, adhesive, a tiny bit of fiber paste, a bit of acrylic paint, and a black Sharpie.

I used Kathy’s embossed foil technique to create the main heart piece.

To make the smaller chipboard lock piece,  I covered it with the tin tape without adding any foam to it and then I put it inside an embossing folder and ran it though my embossing machine.  I then finished it off the same way I did the heart, by scribbling with a Sharpie all over it and then rubbing the marker off with a baby wipe.

I covered the wings with a thin coat of fiber paste and then scratched lines into it and let it dry.  Then I painted it with acrylic paints.

For the felt key hole,  I painted it with the acrylic paint and used a paper towel to fluff up the felt before it dried.  Once it was dry I used the fine tip of the Sharpie to draw faux stitch lines onto it…and a heart too.

Then I just assembled it all together using some Beacon adhesive and one square of foam adhesive to pop up the chipboard lock piece.

I covered the backside of the heart and wings with more tin tape and then just doodled over them quickly with a bamboo shishkabob skewer.  I then added a clip to the back so that I could either clip it to my shirt or to a necklace.  I like versatility!!

And now I have a great handmade piece to wear!

Birds Of A Feather

April 23rd, 2012 | By admin in Altered Art, Birds, Hearts | 19 Comments »

Hi there Basically Bare fans!  It’s Erin here again at the wheel today, and I had so much fun making this canvas with products from Basically Bare and Pink Paislee!

Don’t you just love those little birdies?  Each one is made of different Basically Bare materials….felt, chipboard, and acrylic.

Made out of the felt bird

Made out of the chipboard bird

Made out of the acrylic bird

I also took a canvas heart, embroidered my our initials on it and some edge stitching, and added that to the tree trunk.  That’s my favorite part of this canvas!

Embroidered canvas heart

I also frayed the heart edges…like I do on just about any fabric I get my hands on.  ;)  To keep it from fraying too much I like to put some Fray Check along the fray so it doesn’t get out of control.  Once it’s dry you can’t even see it.

Close up!

This turned out to be such a spring-y project!! Perfect timing!

Altered Wise Owl Wall Decor

April 6th, 2012 | By admin in Altered Art, Birds | 13 Comments »

Hi everyone!  I’m Erin Bassett, part of the Art Assembly team here at Basically Bare, and I’m so excited to be doing my first blog post today and sharing with your this adorable little owl!

I took one of the felt owl Stack-a-Bellies and traced it on a piece of fabric and then cut it out a bit smaller then the original owl.  Then I frayed the edges and sewed the fabric and felt owl pieces together in a messy sewing style.  I love the way she turned out!

I also had this little embroidered heart sitting on my desk for a week or so now.  It was left over from another project I was working on and I thought it would work out great on this.  I took a big safety pin, which was originally silver, and painted it with some “Saffron” Glimmer Glaze from Tattered Angels so that it would match the screw that’s on the embroidery hoop.

I also had to put a bow on it, of course!  I just pinned it around the embroidery hoop screw along with a little tag that I wrote on with a Zig pen.

Now I just have to find a place in my home to put her up!
