Basically Bare Plain Jane Album not so plain

January 20th, 2013 | By Veronica in By Product, Dress Forms, Hearts, Krafty Keepsake Album, Mini Albums & Journals | 2 Comments »

Hi, Veronica here to share with you a lovely little album by Basically Bare Krafty Keepsakes  that I call ADORE.  Who says that Valentine’s Day or a Romantic Keepsake album has to be Red and Pink?

I just love the envelope pockets in this album!  I decorated the envelope pages with the Basically Bare Hearts so that I can easily pull out the tags.  There is room on the tags for lots of journaling or you can store extra photos inside the pockets!

Notice the wings that I added to the hearts.  Nothing says “LOVE” more than hearts and wings.  Is this c-u-t-e or what?

There are so many ways and techniques you can use to embellish the Basically Bare chipboard pieces.  On this dress form I decided to wrap it in ribbon.

Thank you for stopping by Basically Bare

Swap with Bella Blvd and new Basically Bare Easel Ablum

November 30th, 2012 | By Veronica in Blossoms and Leaves, Buttons, Easy Easel, Happy Little Hosues, Mini Albums & Journals, Mixed-Media Albums, Uncategorized | 5 Comments »

Hellow everyone!  It’s Veronica here again with an adorable mini album for all your Thanksgiving photos!  This week (Nov. 26 – 30th) the Basically Bare design team members are doing a swap with Bella Blvd.  So for my swap I decided to use the cutest Bella Blvd “Thankful” collection.

I am also using the brand new “Easel Ablum” by Basically Bare.  This album is perfect for any mini you have in mind.  The Easel album makes such a great coffee table album for all your treasured memories.  The “easy easel” bare booklets album comes with pages that are 4×6 and 5×5 so you have plenty of space to create an awesome mini.

The thing I love most about the Bella Blvd “Thankful” collection is that the line comes with a couple of different style of tag pages.  It is so easy to pick out the tag you want to use for your journaling or as a design element on your album, for example my front page.

Thank you for stopping by to visit, hope you enjoyed my mini.

Happy Scrapping,

Veronica Johnson / Kitsnbitscraps

It’s Fall!

November 20th, 2012 | By Marilyn in Altered Art, Birds, By Product, Happy Little Hosues, Tilly's Tabs | 1 Comment »

Good morning, Marilyn here.  Today, I have a neat little page I created for your viewing pleasure.  This time of year reminds me of falling leaves, acorns, and cardinals.  The time when the heat of summer leaves but just before the cold of winter arrives.

First, I covered an extra chipboard page I had from a Basically Bare Tilly’s Tabs album with a piece of Bella Blvd Homey paper (the backside), then followed with a house from the Basically Bare Happy Little Houses set (which I’m already in love with!).  To get the brick effect I wanted, I ran a piece of acrylic through a TH checkerboard texture fade and then inked it up with alcohol ink in Cranberry.  Glossy Accents was the perfect clear glue since the acrylic is still fairly transparent.  I left the chipboard unpainted underneath the acrylic which adds to the brick effect.

Wanting to make a cardinal, I grabbed one of my Basically Bare chipboard Birds and gave it a good spraying with Dylusions Postbox Red mist.  I left it soaking in the excess mist until it air dried.  I’ve learned that you will sometimes have a “fade-out” of color if you try hurrying the drying along with a heat gun.

Next I glued my bird onto a wood branch, adding foam leaves and a few acorns from my backyard.  The “fall” is from the Bella Blvd Thankful sticker sheet.

Hope you enjoyed my little project.  Until later……Smiles~

Sew Cute with Basically Bare Oh So Mini

September 17th, 2012 | By Veronica in Dress Forms, Mini Albums & Journals | 5 Comments »

Whoot Whoot, Veronica here and I am so excited to share with you my latest “Oh So Mini” album.  As you know you can mix and match the album pages.  Well I had a couple of clear acrylic pages left over from mixing and matching other albums using the “Oh So Mini” pages; and it dawned me why not sew the two clear pages together and make pockets?  That is just what I did which lead me to pull my theme of “Sew Cute” together.

I took the bracket acrylic page and laid the scallop acrylic page on top.  I did have to cut the scallop page about an inch and using my crop-a-dile make another set of holes for my rings.  I needed the top scallop page a little shorter so that I could slip tags inbetween the pages with enough room for the tag ribbons.

OK, on to the sewing part.  I again made some small holes on the top and bottom of my layered pages then using a slip stitch I went ahead and hand “sewed” them together.  I still needed to sew a divider in the middle of the layered pages so that I would have two pockets for my tags.  Rather than using my May Arts burlap ribbon, I decided to place snaps along the center.  I thought it was a cute idea since I was going with the whole sewing theme.

Below is the back side of the cover page.  You can see the snaps better on this side.  The one important thing you have to remember when working with acrylic is that of course whatever you place on the front will show up on the back.  I decided to make my tags out of the Tim Holtz “Kraft Resist” paper because of the sewing pattern.  Also I liked the whole monochromatic base color that I used throughout my album.

Below is the tabbed page that I covered with October Afternoon ”farmhouse” collection.  I used old packaging from a sewing kit that my husband’s grandmother had from the 1950′s to make a pocket for my tags.

Though out the album I added the original packages from grandma Elsie’s sewing notions.

On the Basically Bare canvas page shown, I used stazon ink and stamped a tape measurer image with my Impression Obession stamp.  Then I spritzed it with glimmer mist.  I personally like making blobs rather than an even spray.  I added some prima chipboard and flowers.

I have some standard processes I use when creating an album.  The first is to pick a standard base color the second is to pick one element and use it throughout the album.  In this “Sew Cute” album I decided to use the tape measurer image.  Notice how pretty much every page has a tape measurer image stamped on a tag or on canvas.

I love the way my Basically Bare “Dressform” chipboard turned out.  I threaded all my wood buttons and glued them on.  I really like the way this dressfrom ties into the whole sewing theme.

October Afternoon farmhouse collection came with a” Miscellany” pack, so I used their tags along with grandma’s original notion cards.

I loved designing this album and I hope that it shows.  I can’t say enough about the “Oh So Mini” albums.  Each album I make using these fabulous mix and match pages is more fun than the last. Each album is totally unique because you decide which of the pages you want in your album.

Happy Scrapping!

Travel Adventure

August 24th, 2012 | By Veronica in Mini Albums & Journals | 5 Comments »

Hi Everyone, Veronica here to share with you a cute Travel album for our Basically Bare and May Arts Swap week!

I love using ribbons so I am very excited to be part of the May Arts swap.  For this album (Rowdy Roaster) I decided to go a little more simple and fresh.  I did not use any ink!  That is not like me but I wanted a crisp look to this album.  The cover is an acrylic arrow which I thought appropriate for my “Off We Go” Adventure Travel album.

I used the embellishment pack “celestial” because I love the chipboard sun and the felt clouds.  I painted the chipboard with a base of white Kuretake FX painty and I finished coloring with yellow.

On the cover as you turn the page I “mirrored” what was on the front cover to the first page since the page is acrylic and “see through”.  I wanted the page to look clean when you turned it without seeing the backs of the embellishments on the cover.

The green ribbon with the white polka dot May Arts JD46 is one of my favorite ribbons and I use it alot!

Since the paper collection had green, blue, yellow and orange in the color palette I went with the same colors for my ribbons.

Thank you for stopping by our swap and have a Scrappy Day!

Oh So Mini Album “Memories” with Prima

July 27th, 2012 | By Veronica in Uncategorized | 1 Comment »

Hi again, Veronica here to share my latest album using the new summer CHA release “Oh So Mini” albums.

These new “Oh So Mini” albums are right down my alley.  I love using these little treasures.  I love the versatility of mixing and matching any of the new 6 sets and also inter-mingling the textures!

I used the Prima Marketing paper collection “Alla-Prima”, and I put alot of different techniques into the base pages.  I first decided to paint all my pages white to give the album a “flow” and continuity.  I then embossed some of the pages using the WOW embossing powers.  I also stamped and used stencils on the pages.

On these pages I added a tag that I embossed, stamped, sprayed with glimmer mist, and distressed.  On the 2nd page above I embossed with a pretty damask stamp using the WOW powders on the canvas “ticket” edge page.  I then sewed, added ribbon and tissue paper folded “ruffle” to the edge.

I don’t know if you notice but I used twill ribbon that I cut and distressed then stained with tea.  I also sewed and distressed my photo matts.  After my matts were adhered to my pages I stamped some clocks on the pages above. I then glimmer sprayed and dripped some more tea on the pages because I like the “drip” effect.

Here I used the rounded edge acrylic page which I cut in half.  I then ran the acrylic through my embossing folder.  I added staz-on ink on the surface to visually bring up the embossed pattern.  I then added some of the new “Jailer Keys” to the acrylic divider

Here is a close up of the Jailer keys which I embossed with copper and gold using the WOW powders.

I hope you enjoyed my share time with my new “Memories” album as much as I enjoyed creating it.  Be sure to get your hands on the new Oh So Mini albums and make some memories of your own.  Happy Scrapping!

Life with Wonky Windows and Spring Jubilee

April 25th, 2012 | By Veronica in Birds, Dress Forms, Mini Albums & Journals, Uncategorized | 20 Comments »

Love the window opening

Hi Everyone, Veronica here! This is my first post as a Basically Bare Design Team member and I am so thrilled. I first saw all the fabulousness that is Basically Bare a year ago at CHA in Chicago. Their booth stopped me in my tracks; I couldn’t believe all the mixed media albums and embellishments! I love making minis, and more than that, I love making mini’s with a mixture of chipboard, acrylic, canvas and envelopes. So when I was accepted into their talented design team I was and am so excited.

I chose to use the Mixed Media Wonky Windows Albums. I love all the different open “windows” in this book and thought it would be great to use it with my Pink Paislee Spring Jubilee collection. I had so much fun making this album, I stamped the canvas page, I embossed the acrylic page, I sanded the chipboard page – and I loved all the peek-a-boo windows.

I always get inspired by color and pattern and the Pink Paislee “Spring Jubilee” collection has all that in abundance. I love the turquoise, yellow and pinks in this collection and there were plenty of birds and butterflies to work with. I was in a creative mojo heaven.

I also used the following Basically Bare embellishments on my album, along with many techniques, one of which was painting and coloring.  I used the Kuretake Zig fabricolor and the Painty fx pens for that.

Canvass and Felt Pieces – Dress Me Up Clothes

Cardboard and Chipboard Pieces – Dress Me Up Dressforms

Stack-a-Bellies – Acrylic Chipboard and Felt Pieces – Birds
Bare Basics – Canvas Chipboard and Felt Pieces – Blossoms and Leaves

Signature Series – Chipboard and Felt Pieces – Fanciful Frames Set

I can’t say enough about my stash of Basically Bare albums and embellishments, I love playing with them and I hope I have inspired you to play with them too!

I ran the acrylic birdie through my embossing folder then I used alcohol ink to color it. Isnt she cute

Used chipboard frame around "window" and also used canvas leaf that I colored with the ZIG fabricolor pens

This is the "back" of the front of the album, notice the little birdie tail sticking out.

I used stazon ink and stamped on the canvas page

I used glimmer mist on the felt birdie then I outlined her with ZIG painty fx pens

On this canvas page I used the Kuretake Painty White pen to make circles as a pattern on the background.

I used glimmer mist on the birdie then I stamped her with stazon

The album came with an acrylic page, so I cut the page in half, cut into banner shape and ran it through my embossing folder

Here is the back side of that banner.  In order to for the embossed pattern to show I used a stazon pad to run lightly across the pattern.  Then I embellished the banner on both sides.  Look at my cute canvas leaf.  I love canvas

The Spring Jubilee paper is so pretty I didnt want to cover it up

Love this window page.  I love how you can see the other side

Since whatever you put on the window page in the front, you need to shadow the same embellishment on the back so it is cohesive

The Dress form is one of FAVORITE Basically Bare embellishments

The covers of the album were painted with both yellow and white Kuretake Painty FX pens.  Then I used a shiney finish to paint over the chipboard.  After it dried, I embossed it using a circle background stamp.  The finishing touch was the rub on from Pink Paislee.

Thank you so much for joining us today!!

Live with Heart

Canvas is quickly becoming one of my favorite things to work with. It takes paint, Glimmer Mist and ink so well and gives any project that texture to make it pop.

Hi everyone, Erika Taylor here today to share with you an album I created using the Basically Bare Hearts #2 set (full of canvas and felt goodness). The entire album is misted with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists and Chalkboard Mists and the Heart is painted with the Pewter Glimmer Glam. I did 4 coats on it to really add texture and I hope you adore the project.

Here is a close up for you where you can see the Heart on the right side. The glossy effect is fantastic!!!

Grab a few of the canvas pieces from Basically Bare and experiment. I’d love to see your creations. Well that is all for me today, until next time

Toodles
