A Perfect Pairing: Nikki Sivils & Basically Bare!

31 May 2012 | By admin in Altered Art, Cupcakes, Hearts

Jen Matott here to share a perfect pairing!  We got the chance to work with one of Nikki Sivils new lines.  I was honored to be on Nikki Sivils inaugural design team for several years and loved every minute of it!  So, when I found out we were using her new designs, I was thrilled!!!  I got to use “Messages” for my swap line.  I know I wanted to do something with notes or communication. I have some handmade cards floating around in the bottom of my drawer in my art room… I needed a place to house them ready to use for the perfect occasion!  So, I repurposed a pasta box into a card holder.

I drew an edge on the wide side and cut.  Once I had that shape, I used it to trace on the reverse side to ensure the same line.

When all sides were cut, I traced the box edges onto the papers and cut them out to cover the box.  I used my ATG gun to adhere onto the cardboard.

Here’s the finished project!  I used Nikki’s letter stickers for the word “Cards”.

Here I used a chipboard heart (covered with the herringbone print paper) and a canvas heart layered on top with a punched cut up from the papers.

The dividers have embellishments like a cupcake for BIRTHDAY Card catagory.  I colored the canvas using the Zig Fabric markers and peeled the top layer off the cardboard bottom to make it look more like the cupcake holder.

Here’s the divider for Baby and Shower cards. I used the acrylic bottle with the chipboard topped with papers.  The “milk” is a white Zig Paint Pen on the reverse side of the acrylic.

Here’s another look!  I have all my handmade cards organized now and can’t wait to add to it and be able to find what I need quick!

So, not only did I upcycle a recyclable box into a useful and cute item, but I got to use Nikki Sivils papers to make a fun project!  This line was perfect and the Basically Bare shapes work beautifully!
