A Banner”ful” Layout along with a Hi card
08 June 2012 | By Katrina in Cards, Page Layouts, Pennants, Sew VintageHey everyone! It’s Katrina here with a layout and card to share with you for the Momenta swap we are doing this week. I was so happy that I got to work with the Kaleidoscope collection from Momenta. If you like bright colors like I do, well it is a great collection to work with. The layout I created is based off of a sketch from Sketch Support, but I felt it was perfect for the papers and what I wanted to do. And yes, the new puppy is making an appearance again here on the Basically Bare blog!
I wanted to create a pennant banner that went all the way across the page at the top, with somewhat of a lift in the middle. The banner is actually where I started my layout and then I worked down from there. I used the equivelent of two packs of the small Pennant Banners because I wanted to cover all of them with the yummy pattern paper. You could easily use one package and just replace some of the pieces with the canvas and felt pennants and it would be just as cute! I did take two of the rounded end pennants and cut them down. I then layered the smaller rounded pennant on top of the larger one. After I did that, I decided that I wanted to layer the top part that I had cut off on top of the pointed pennant as well. For all pieces, I covered with pattern paper, trimmed with an Xacto knife and then sanded the edges smooth. I then either inked with my Prima chalk inks OR I used my Zig Painty Marker to accent the edges.
As you can see here, some of the pieces were also accented with the button embellishments that are in the Kaleidoscope collection. I love bows, so I added three white bows atop the rounded pennant pieces. I felt those gave just enough of a shabby, yet fun and funky look to the banner that was just enough. You can also see the middle slope to the banner. I laid out ALL my pieces, decided on placement and then after covering and embellishing them, laid them right back where I had put them, until I glued everything down completely!
I wanted to use some of the clear embellishments that Momenta had sent also, so I decided to create a base for one of them. I covered part of a Fanciful Frame with pattern paper, trimmed and sanded the edges down. Then I took my Zig Embossing Pen (THESE are the best! You can get into small spaces and only emboss a little area!) and went over some of the flowers in the pattern paper. I then sprinkled some matching WOW Embossing powder on them and heat set. I ran the edges of the frame thru an embossing pad and then used the same powder to do those. This gave a little more detail to the pattern paper, yet didn’t overwhelm the clear embellishment.
And I couldn’t let the fun stop there, I decided I had to do a card with these fun papers. Someone will get a great pick-me-up from the bright colors! In case you are wondering, this card is a 6 x 6 inch, so it is on the larger side and would probably be more suitable to give in person, or to include inside a package you were mailing.
I used the Basically Bare Sew Vintage set for this card. I wanted to use the scissors in the set also, but I didn’t have enough room on my card! I knew that white flowered paper would look quite fun on the sewing machine, so I went to town on it. I didn’t really want to embellish too much, because I wanted the paper and the shape of the machine to stand out. I did sand and ink my edges, using Prima chalk ink. Once done, that pink flower clear embellishment fit perfectly on the top of the machine.
After playing with the ribbon on the layout, I knew I wanted it wrapped around the spool. I covered the spool with pattern paper and then ink with Prima chalk ink, just like I did the sewing machine….simple and easy. I then took a length of ribbon and wrapped it around the spool a few times. Make sure your inked edges are dry, so it doesn’t stain your ribbon…unless you like that look! I brought the two ends to the front of the spool and just tied a bow. I also used another little chipboard flower piece that is from the paper collection to the center of my bow. Added the sentiment and now I have a card to brighten someone’s day!
I want to thank Momenta for letting us play this week! This collection is so fun and it made some unique Basically Bare embellishments also! I hope you enjoyed my projects and be sure to check out everyone else’s projects also!
