An Altered Plaque NS Swap
30 May 2012 | By admin in UncategorizedHi everyone! This is Christina here and for my project, I decided to use Nikki Sivils’ “Noah” line. It worked out perfectly because I had the perfect project in mind for it. I had picked up a plain wood plaque at my local craft store and was saving it for a “just in case” moment. My moment came. My friend has an infant boy and I thought this would be perfect to do a name plate with.
I painted my plaque using primary colors since that is the color palette for the “Noah” line. I wanted to keep the depth of the plaque so I painted each “ledge” using a different color.
While the paint dried, I ran my background paper through my sewing machine to make a border. Once the paint dried, I put down my sheet of chevron paper. The screw head brads are glued down using a hot glue gun. I just snipped off the prongs and glued ‘em down. They are a perfect touch for this kind of boyish collection.
I decided to try out paper collage on the sun and loved how it turned out. I used some paper from a foreign text kit from Gauche Alchemy. I tore one of the sheets into small pieces and applied them to the chipboard using Mod Podge. I continued to apply small pieces until the sun was covered. After it dried completely, I cleaned up my edges and colored over it using my yellow ZIG PaintyFX and spraying it with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in “Twinkle Yellow”. I love that you can see the foreign text showing through. It adds such nice visual interest.
I painted my tree green and to bring out the tree a little, I used some flower punchinella as a mask on the felt tree top. I applied some red rhinestones to look like apples. It added a bit of shine to the whole project and went very well with the foil Thickers. For the trunk, I peeled off the top layer of paper to expose the corrugated board underneath. The trunk was already brown so I just spritzed it with “Coffee” Glimmer Mist.
Other small details really help to pull this whole project together. I used clear punchinella as a backdrop for his name, “Nolan” and added some bling behind the car to imply motion (and to make it prettier too). The masking is also done using punchinella and a make-up sponge with acrylic paint.
Thank you so much for taking a look!
Cheers!
Christina

How sweet is that!!! And ‘it’ really is in the details … making ‘bumps in the road’ by stitching them in your border is just too cute!
