Guest Designer Jenny Nielson, Day Two

August 29th, 2012 | By Beth in Mini Albums & Journals | 1 Comment »

Welcome back, everyone!  It’s our second day with guest designer Jenny Nielson, and she’s got another great project for us today.  Let’s get right to it, shall we?

____________________________________

Hi this is Jenny Nielson here again for my second day at Basically Bare. Today I have a money holder card. I took one of the albums and took out several pages and turned it into a card.

I took several pages out of the album and had one envelope remaining. I then glued that to the back cover so it would be more stable.

I used one of the pennants to make the cupcake.

I used more pennants for the tab to open the envelope.

I have had a great time here at Basically Bare! I hope you have all enjoyed my project!

Thank you so much for being our guest, Jenny!  We really appreciate it!

Hi, I am Jenny Nielson and I am so excited to be Guest Designing for Basically Bare! I am a wife, mother of three, artist, scrapbooker, and cosmetologist. I have been scrapbooking for almost 20 years, just when there were paper, stickers, and pictures on a page. Wow how things have changed!! I love to create mini albums I just feel like when I complete one I have really accomplished something. I hope over the next two days you will enjoy what I have created. I would love for you to check out my blog www.jenny-nielson.blogspot.com

My first project I would like to share is a mini journal that I created using the Tiny Tabs Album

I created this mini journal to tell about my family’s summer.  I opted not to include photos for something different and just do a mini journal. I also used the Bare Basics -pennants

That’s all for today.  Be sure to come back and see another great project from Jenny tomorrow!

This Is Love..

We got a new member of the family last month, a sweet little kitten we named Lola. She has brought us much joy and laughter, and then she suddenly got sick. Very sick. For two days I thought she wasn’t going to make it . But she pulled through and is getting stronger every single day! I am so happy and I celebrated by scrapping a photo of the day we brought her home.

I used six Bare Basics Hearts on this page. I covered most of them with silver glittery paper. I like the diva-ish color combination of pink, black, and silver for Lola. She can be spunky!

Paris Girl Door Hanger

August 25th, 2012 | By Emily in Uncategorized | 4 Comments »

Hey everyone! It’s Emily here with a fun & quick craft project that you can make using Basically Bare embellies & May Arts Ribbons!

For my project, I altered a little wooden door hanger for my craft room. I found a pack of wood door hangers at the craft store for about $4 for 6. They are great to alter for kids rooms and not very expensive!

I decided to use the new Carta Bella paper “Paris Girl” which automatically meant I had to use the Basically Bare dress form!

I love the dress forms! They are so fun to “dress” up! And they work great with the May Arts box pleat ribbon. Another favorite of mine from May Arts is the rosette ribbon. I always get it in White so I can dye it with mists and cut it out to look like real little roses!

Lastly, I added my new fave from Basically Bare, the small pennants. So cute and they work well with any project!

Our Special Dinner: A Basically Bare/May Arts layout

August 24th, 2012 | By Kristin in Uncategorized | 5 Comments »

Hi everyone! Kristin here with a fun and easy layout created with some Basically Bare embellishments and May Arts ribbons.

As you can see, my layout is pretty simple. I wrapped the May Arts twine around the top of the heart-shaped lock and added a little yellow bow to the top. In between the lock and the photo, I added a single black key from the jailer keys set (these two sets go awesome together).

I added turquoise twill to bring out the colors of the photo while still staying geometric and minimalist.

Here are some close-up shots of the embellishments.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Travel Adventure

August 24th, 2012 | By Veronica in Mini Albums & Journals | 5 Comments »

Hi Everyone, Veronica here to share with you a cute Travel album for our Basically Bare and May Arts Swap week!

I love using ribbons so I am very excited to be part of the May Arts swap.  For this album (Rowdy Roaster) I decided to go a little more simple and fresh.  I did not use any ink!  That is not like me but I wanted a crisp look to this album.  The cover is an acrylic arrow which I thought appropriate for my “Off We Go” Adventure Travel album.

I used the embellishment pack “celestial” because I love the chipboard sun and the felt clouds.  I painted the chipboard with a base of white Kuretake FX painty and I finished coloring with yellow.

On the cover as you turn the page I “mirrored” what was on the front cover to the first page since the page is acrylic and “see through”.  I wanted the page to look clean when you turned it without seeing the backs of the embellishments on the cover.

The green ribbon with the white polka dot May Arts JD46 is one of my favorite ribbons and I use it alot!

Since the paper collection had green, blue, yellow and orange in the color palette I went with the same colors for my ribbons.

Thank you for stopping by our swap and have a Scrappy Day!

Hello, Alice

August 23rd, 2012 | By Beth in Mini Albums & Journals | 6 Comments »

Good morning, guys!  It’s Beth here, with a Basically Bare album full of great May Arts goodies.  If you saw the last book I posted (right here), you’ve already met Tom.  The book I have today features his little sister Alice.  So, everyone, let’s meet Alice!

The  whole book is covered with papers from American Crafts.  On the front, we have three different May Arts trims, including the great sueded leaves behind the flowers.

The Basically Bare flowers are covered with tiny marbles in gold and have Prima flower centers stuck in the middles.

These next pages have some adorable newborn pics and lots of green!

I doodled some stems and vines on the pages and on the acrylic page that is between them, and then added some paper flowers.

These May Arts ribbons (this one was white!) take inks and sprays like crazy!

Next up are some more super cute pics (that hat!!) and some epoxy pennants, with a string doodled along them using a Zig Millennium pen.

For the next set of pages, I used some great floral ribbon and plastic roses.  The little library pocket up top is a spot for a little note or small pic to hide away.

The canvas page is embossed with some polka dots using some great pink WOW embossing powder.

The back cover has one more pic – look at that pretty mommy and daughter! -  and a couple more great May Arts trims.

Thanks again to Super Kate for letting me use her adorable kidlets’ pictures, and thanks to May Arts for the great ribbons and trims!

x Beth

Love This Face

August 23rd, 2012 | By Katrina in Hearts, Page Layouts | 6 Comments »

Combine May Arts, Basically Bare and some fun paper, I am in HEAVEN!  I am a ribbon lover and have to have some sort of ribbon, twine, etc. on every project I do.  May Arts is my favorite ribbon company, so call me SUPER excited when I found out that we got to partner with them.  Katrina is a happy, happy girl right here!

Our dogs had a pet modeling session with a local photographer (UTurn Studios) and I was so lucky that she gave me permission to use the pictures for my design team work and layouts to post on my blog.  We only have a couple of Jetson, because he is shy and a little scared of new situations.  I was happy to get the ones we did, so of course it was one of the first ones I wanted to work with.

I knew when I started that I wanted to used the Hearts #1 and Hearts #2 sets that Basically Bare has to alter.  That was the only plan I had going in!  I started with a chipboard heart and covered it with the hexagon pattern paper.  Then I decided it needed some dimension, so I cut out a few of the hexagons and popped them up randomly.  I love to use jute twine to accent areas, and this natural color from May Arts goes perfectly with the soft feel of the layout.  I wrapped it a few times and then tied a bow.  I did use a small glue dot behind the bow, just to hold it in place.

Next up to conquer was the canvas heart.  I really wanted to have the ribbon be the spotlight on this heart.  So, I folded it in half and then cut a heart out of the center.  I pieced together two strips of the wide ribbon that I had and then backed my canvas heart outline with it.  The ribbon color was actually a little too strong for the layout, so I misted the entire piece with Mr. Huey’s in White to tone it down a bit.  I cut another, smaller heart out of the middle that I had cut out and misted with Mr. Huey’s in Piglet.  Then I attached it to the edge.  It still needed something, so I pulled out a trusty doily and called it good!

One fun way to use ribbon to accent is to tie it under your pictures.  I just make my backing paper a little longer to accommodate the width of ribbon I am using.  And I am a bow girl, so I usually have some type of bow under there.  Knots work well too!  I like my bows to have some “umph” to them, so a lot of times I will double strand the fiber I am working with.

I have to say, this swap was fun!  Don’t be afraid to add ribbon in unusual places on your projects, I think you will see a lot of that here during the swap.  Thank you May Arts for swapping with us this week, it’s been a LOT of fun!

Hugs,

Katrina Hunt

May Arts and Basically Bare Fun From Jen

August 22nd, 2012 | By admin in Altered Art, Dress Forms | 4 Comments »

Jen Matott here to share a fun project that I did with May Arts ribbon and Basically Bare products!

I had some of our Gears left over from a previous project and added in some of our new frames and a hat!  The dressform was so much fun to alter!!!  Here are some close ups of my Steampunk wall hanging!

The cardboard dress form from Basically Bare was altered by ripping some of the top layer off, stamped with a VersaMark pad and embossed with WOW embossing powder in Ultra Gold first.  I then did the same with Copper Regular powders.  Finally, I stamped some text

from the Rubber Cafe’s Steampunk set and embossing it with Black Glint powder.  The skirt was made with 1/2 a doily folded around and then a ruffle of May Arts 2″ Solid Stripe ribbon with a pretty bow around her middle!

Here’s the cute little black top hat from Basically Bare’s Hats & Staches set.  I just tied a piece of May Arts Faux Linen ribbon through a metal gear and glued some feathers and a stick pin in for a fun Steampunk look.

The backing board is a piece of chipboard that I covered with tissue pattern and modeling paste through a stencil of gears (Prima).  I added some Faber Castell Design Memory Craft Gelatos in Champagne. The rest of the gears were embossed with WOW Embossing powder, stamps from Rubber Cafe (Steampunk set), and metal circles and Rubber Cafe bling.

The acrylic frame is stamped with StazOn using the same stamps.  I also stamped the wing and embossed with copper power and colored the rest with Black Licorice Gelato. I added a felt key embossed in silver and some pewter brads too! The final touch was some of the May Arts ribbon looped through a book ring for hanging and attached to the back of the piece.  The bottom piece was cut with a ribbon edge for a pretty finish!

This was so fun to make and I absolutely LOVE May Arts ribbon!  It is so lush and gorgeous!  Hope you enjoyed my Steampunk wall hanging!

Bring Your Own Sunshine Canvas

August 21st, 2012 | By JamieP in Altered Art, Dress Forms | 6 Comments »

Are you ready for another fun project using both Basically Bare and May Arts?  Jamie here with you again with just such a project!

When I sat down to work on this canvas, I originally envisioned a fall themed project, full of reds, oranges, and browns.  However, as I started laying down color, the canvas took a completely different spin.  Which is not a bad thing – now I have a super girly canvas with a summery feel to it.

To start, I painted the entire canvas with black gesso.  Next, I next I mixed a few different colors of mica powder with water to make a slurry, then painted the mixtures over the dried gesso.  The color and shimmer of the mica powders just pop on the black background.

Then, I used an acrylic frame from the Fanciful Frames II set.  I wanted just a hint of color on the frame, so I inked my embossing folder and then quickly ran the piece through my Cuttlebug.  The stars were inked with Tsukineko Brilliance Galaxy Gold ink. The sun was painted with crackle paint, and once dry, I added a bit of my mica powder slurry mixture.

Next, I inked my white net ribbon several different shades of yellow and oranges and cut the ends into points.  The ribbon was then layered over several different patterned papers. The two acrylic stars were inked with StazOn ink.

And to finish off the piece, I used a chipboard dress form, which was heat embossed and then covered with Glimmer Glaze.  For the skirt, I really wanted something super feminine and poofy.  I took  my flowers ribbon and cut out the flowers so I could layer them on the skirt.  Since I wanted the dress to really stand out on the dark background, I purposefully left the flowers white and uninked.
