Today we are happy to share a great project by guest designer Gaelle Fauglas.  First up, a little about Gaelle:

Gaëlle lives in the West of France with her husband and her two daughters, who are her main sources of inspiration. Her scrap is at the same time soft, colored and freestyle. She likes marrying the feminine and graphic style with techniques of mixed media, always by staying in the tip of the fashion. She has been teaching scrapbooking workshops for 4 years, and her creations were published in numerous magazines and books. She is a contributor for “Histoires de Pages” magazine since september 2008. Gaëlle recently opened an online store : GFcreations.dawanda.com

And now, without further delay, let’s check out the first of her great projects she’s done for us, and a few words about each from Gaelle herself:

I cut my kraft cardstock with my Cameo, and placed a book page under my background.

I used some masking tape under the stars to highlight them, and sticked small kraft stars on them.

Oh So Mini Album “Memories” with Prima

July 27th, 2012 | By Veronica in Uncategorized | 1 Comment »

Hi again, Veronica here to share my latest album using the new summer CHA release “Oh So Mini” albums.

These new “Oh So Mini” albums are right down my alley.  I love using these little treasures.  I love the versatility of mixing and matching any of the new 6 sets and also inter-mingling the textures!

I used the Prima Marketing paper collection “Alla-Prima”, and I put alot of different techniques into the base pages.  I first decided to paint all my pages white to give the album a “flow” and continuity.  I then embossed some of the pages using the WOW embossing powers.  I also stamped and used stencils on the pages.

On these pages I added a tag that I embossed, stamped, sprayed with glimmer mist, and distressed.  On the 2nd page above I embossed with a pretty damask stamp using the WOW powders on the canvas “ticket” edge page.  I then sewed, added ribbon and tissue paper folded “ruffle” to the edge.

I don’t know if you notice but I used twill ribbon that I cut and distressed then stained with tea.  I also sewed and distressed my photo matts.  After my matts were adhered to my pages I stamped some clocks on the pages above. I then glimmer sprayed and dripped some more tea on the pages because I like the “drip” effect.

Here I used the rounded edge acrylic page which I cut in half.  I then ran the acrylic through my embossing folder.  I added staz-on ink on the surface to visually bring up the embossed pattern.  I then added some of the new “Jailer Keys” to the acrylic divider

Here is a close up of the Jailer keys which I embossed with copper and gold using the WOW powders.

I hope you enjoyed my share time with my new “Memories” album as much as I enjoyed creating it.  Be sure to get your hands on the new Oh So Mini albums and make some memories of your own.  Happy Scrapping!

Mixed Media Banner

July 26th, 2012 | By admin in Altered Art, Mini Albums & Journals | 3 Comments »

Jen Matott here with a fun project that I did with the new Oh So Mini Albums.  I mixed the Scallop and Rounded pieces together for a fun banner!  I love the different materials that these albums are made of and how materials react differently to the different surfaces.

This banner was so fun to make and I loved how it came out after stringing it together. Let’s take a look at some of the individual pieces:

This canvas piece was left bare and I used a Crafter’s Workshop cloud stencil with Faber Castell Design Memory Craft Gelatos in Silver Ice and Blueberry with a sponge brush. I then dripped some embossing medium onto the canvas and added WOW Embossing powders in Black Glint, Cotton Candy, and Platinum.

One of the clear acrylic pieces that I embossed using my Cuttlebug and embossing folders then sprayed with the Tattered Angels sprays that were inspired by Basically Bare in Coconut Shell.

This cardboard piece was created with a brick template and VersaMark with WOW Embossing powders mixed and layered. I started with Cable Car Red and then layered Black Glint and some Copper. I then added the “Journey” Stamp and embossed with Bright White. The dots are Gelatos through a stencil and then dripped some Gelatos mixed with water from the top.

Another canvas piece with WOW stamps using Faber Castell Design Memory Craft Pitt artist pens and Gelatos through a circle stencil.

This is one of my favorites. A chipboard rounded piece with a Prima script stamp using Faber Castell Pitt Artist pen and then flames embossed over top with a stencil and WOW Embossing Powders in Cable Car Red, Black Glint, and Copper. I also embossed the doily with Ultra High Gold WOW embossing powder. The stamped frame and words are from WOW and embossed as well.

Lots of embossing and stamping here… then layers of ribbon cut papers and dripping embossing powders and a framed saying attached. I also embossed and added the cardboard and chipboard circle waste from the holes in the mini pieces for more texture. I love that I can peel the cardboard to reveal the corregated parts.

Finally another acrylic piece that was stamped with StazOn and embossed through the Cuttlebug again and sprayed with Tattered Angels.

I hope you liked my banner made from Oh So Mini album pieces!  I had so much fun making it and it was at CHA in the WOW Embossing Powder booth this month!

Misting and Masking: A Tutorial

July 25th, 2012 | By Kristin in Blossoms and Leaves, Page Layouts | 4 Comments »

Hey Everyone! Kristin here with a great tutorial on misting with masks made of Basically Bare chipboard & acrylic!

My style is generally colorful and graphic — and I tend to be sparse with my embellishments; but when I first saw the new frames, I knew they would make perfect masks to mist with.

Today I’m going to show you step-by-step how to use basically bare chipboard and/or acrylic to make your own masks for misting. **Warning: VERY photo heavy** This technique can be used with any of the chipboard or acrylic embellishments from Basically Bare, and is a great way to get a bunch of uses out of your product before gluing it down on a final project!

Step One: I started by pulling out the new Faniciful Frames II. I decided to cut down a couple of the frames because some of were a little bit too wide, and I also wanted a couple extra frame masks.

Step Two: I used washi tape (masking tape works fine too) to mask off a square around the inside part of the wide frame.

Step Three: I then took my clear ruler and exacto knife, and made long cuts on the outside edge of the washi tape.

Step Four: After cutting the inside frame out, I was left with two new frames — a thinner version of the original, and a perfect square.

Step Five: Pull off all the plastic, and you’re left with two perfectly clear frames. At this point, I pulled the plastic off all the acrylic frames I was going to use. I’ve found that mists will clean up easier when the plastic is off the acrylic.

Step Six: Lay out the frames on the background cardstock (I used a sheet of white 8.5×11). I moved them around until I was happy with the placement. I did make sure that I had one large complete frame totally within my paper so I would have a place for my photo, and also several other frames overlapping the outside edges.

Step Seven: I transferred my paper and frames to my misting box (An empty pizza box works really well) which I placed on the floor. I really like standing up over the box and misting down, so I also covered the floor with newspaper as not to mist on my carpet.

Step Eight: Because newly misted paper tends to curl up, I let my newly misted background dry for several minutes before sandwiching it in between a couple of stacks of paper to flatten it out.

Step Nine: I drew around the outside edges of the frames with a .01 Zig Millenium writing pen to make the frames pop out a little bit more, and then started to build upon my layout by adding my photo and some patterned paper to the inside of the frames.

Here are several closeups of the layout, and a neat trick for turning the Blossoms from the Blossoms and Leaves set into cute little flowers.

Blossoms into Hearts

**How to make the Blossoms into Hearts: First, flip the blossom over to the backside (this way your lines won’t show through) and put a little dot directly in the center. Then add three lines in a Y shape radiating out from the center — it should look then like the top blossom. Then add a second dot in the middle of the bottom line and draw lines from the two outside points to the new dot. Then cut on the two lines you just drew and you have yourself a cute little heart!

Supplies Used: Basically Bare Fanciful Frames II, Basically Bare Blossoms & Leaves set, Zig Millenium Pen .01, Cosmo Cricket 23 tag set, Studio Calico Mr. Huey Custard, Studio Calico Hey Day 6×6 pad, Bella Blvd Blue Airmail Washi, BananaFish Studio Remember Tag and You journaling card.

Lazy Summer Days Wall Hanging

July 24th, 2012 | By JamieP in Altered Art | 4 Comments »

Jamie here with you today, and I have a fun wall hanging today using a few of the new CHA Summer 2012 new release Basically Bare items!

The base for the wall hanging is an acrylic page from the Oh So Mini Stamp Album.  To start, I inked the back of the page with Snow Cap alcohol ink.  Then, I ran the page through my Cuttlebug for a bit of texture.  Next, I added a bit green StazOn to the edges of the page and to the raised areas that were created with the Cuttlebug.  The last bit I added to the background was a bit of orange Kurecolor Ink for a bit of contrast color and then a few strips of torn patterned paper.

Now let’s look at how I altered the Basically Bare embellishments.  I started with the felt clouds from the Celestial Set and spritzed them with a bit of water based ink and set them aside to dry.  Once dry, I added a layer of Liquitex Glass Bead Gel Medium, which adds so much wonderful texture to the pieces.  This is one step where you have to have a bit of patience because it takes a couple days for the gel medium to fully dry. For the record, I am not a patient person and was not happy to wait so long to get back to this project, but the end effect is definitely worth the wait. :)

The next thing I added to this project was the mustaches from the Hats and ‘Staches Set.  I covered both of the mustaches with patterned paper, inked the edges, then added a bit or Rock Candy Stickles.  By flipping the mustaches upside down, they make perfect tulips.  I then added a bit of May Arts leaf ribbon to complete the flowers.

To finish this piece, I added a few beads and bells to the bottom.  Now, not only do I have an adorable wall hanging, but it also give a soft jingle when a breeze happens by.

Mixed Media Canvas With Jailer Keys & Fanciful Frames II

July 23rd, 2012 | By admin in Uncategorized | 4 Comments »

Happy Monday Crafters!

Frank here sharing a canvas I made with some of the new Basically Bare Summer releases, the awesome Fanciful Frames II and the super cute Jailer Keys. This I think really proves how versatile and amazing these products can be. Take a look at the canvas I made.

This was sort of a personal canvas, I really thought about myself with this one and really added a lot of elements that I think went well with the colors. I simply love the layered jailer keys, so pretty. The frame is the acrylic one and I heated it and it gave it that “bent” look which looks amazing! Love the way that turned out! Here are some details:

I had tons of fun working with these wonderful new products, and I am sure YOU will too! For the canvas I used some gesso, molding paste, and tons of Glimmer Misting!! I love this personal canvas. These new Basically Bare embellishments are truly versatile, amazing, and so much fun! Hope you get your hands on them soon!

Thanks for stopping by today!

Sitting in the Big Chair

July 22nd, 2012 | By Katrina in Page Layouts, Uncategorized | 3 Comments »

Hi everyone, Katrina here.  Wow, it seems like it has been awhile since I have posted here on the Basically Bare blog!  We had to get all those yummy Summer releases debuted to you over the past week or so!  I was excited when I found I could work with any of the releases…aka Mix and Match!  I used the Fanciful Frames II, a page from an Oh So Mini album, and the Hats and ‘Staches releases.  That’s a lot of Bascially Bare goodness right there.

I knew I wanted to use on of the canvas pages from the new Oh So Mini albums as a layer behind my photo.  I ran some ribbon thru the holes to cover them, made a knot bow and then added a flair piece as an embellishment in the center.  I also frayed the edges of the canvas all the way around the page.

I, then started wondering what I was going to do with those ‘Staches!  It’s a girly page, plus I wanted to show a different use for them.  I covered in chipboard, trimmed and sanded the edges, then inked with Picket Fence Distress Stain.  I was going to use them as a border, but it wasn’t working with the layout, so I decided to use them as accent pieces.

To accent the cute faces on the page,  I sized my photo to fit inside one of the frames from the Fanicful Frames II set.  Before attaching the photo I painted the frame pink, dried with a heat gun, then ran lipbalm over it in places and then painted with an off white color.  I then dried with a heat gun again and then with a paper towel rubbed off the lipbalm.  The lipbalm created a resist to let the pink show thru.  I ran some Picket Fence Distress Stain over it and misted with some Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist Chalkboard in Sandy Beach (a Basically Bare inspired color).  This created the final look that you see here.  I added a couple of covered ‘Staches at the top and bottom of the frame as accents.

Thanks for visiting today.  I hope you get some ideas to play with on your projects!

Fanciful Frames II (Times Two!)

July 21st, 2012 | By Beth in Hearts, Page Layouts | 4 Comments »

So, did you all check out the new product reveal videos over the past few days?  These books and embellies are so much fun to work with, so get ahold of them as soon as possible!

Today I have a project that features the brand new Fanciful Frames II embellies.

I embossed one of the frames and stamped a pattern on the other.  Both are inked with Staz-On ink, which is perfect for the acrylic embellies.

I used frames that were much smaller than the picture itself so that they would frame just a portion of the photo rather than sizing the photo down to fit completely in the open area of the frame.

The Bare Basics Heart is covered with paper and wrapped with embroidery floss.

And, of course, truck-loads of flowers and rhinestones go on top!

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Come back tomorrow for another project idea featuring the brand new Summer 2012 releases!

x Beth
