Today is the last day of Erika Taylor’s stint as a guest designer for us, and we are sad to see it end!  Erika is a fabulously talented (and super fun!) artist.  Follow her blog for lots of great stuff, you won’t be disappointed!  Now, over to Erika!

Today is my last day as a guest designer for Basically Bare and I’ll tell ya, I miss being a full time member of this team. The products are so wonderful to use, especially for a crafter like me, who loves to ink and alter.

Hello everyone, Erika Taylor here and I’m sharing with you my final project as a Basically Bare Guest designer. For this card I used the Gears #2, Pennants Large and Birds sets. I wanted to show you all how amazing the basically bare products take to paint, embossing powder and mists, so I hope this card shows that.

First off, I took a canvas pennant, and sprayed it with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in Coffee Shop. Once dry I stamped it with a Wow Embossing Powders stamp and finished it with Wow Embossing Powder in Olive. I love how embossing powders looks on canvas.

For the Gears,I used a combination of paint daubers, embossing powders and Distress Stain to create the texture and look. Finally the little chipboard bird with felt wings was inked, stamped, embossed and painted, using the same combination from Wow Embossing Powders (Primary Bark and Olive).

I really like the contrast of vintage and industrial on this card and I hope you do as well. Here is the finished project full of pennants, gears and a chirpy bird.

Thank you so so very much Angela and Beth for allowing me to be a part of the team this year as a Guest Designer. I’m truly honored to be a part of this amazingly talented group of artists. Until next time

Guest Designer Erika Taylor- Day Two

June 29th, 2012 | By admin in Mini Albums & Journals | 13 Comments »

I’m back again today with a bunch of photos to share with you everyone. Erika Taylor here today to show you a little Boys of Summer mini album I created using the Tiny Tabs Mini Album, Happy Little Houses , Gears #2 and Celestial Shapes from Basically Bare. I wanted to create a little album filled with 3 of my favorite boys of summer. So here it is.

I dismantled the entire album and used the acrylic piece as my front page. I added alcohol inks, cheese cloth dyed with Tattered Angels glimmer mists and papers from FabScraps. I love the way that the cheese cloth looks when you ink it up.

Now for the rest of the album. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did creating it.

For the next page, I used one of the sweet houses from Happy Little Houses to add a bit of texture and layer.

The Sun is from the Celestial Shapes pack. I think this is one of my favorite Basically Bare shapes. So versatile!!

For this next page, I used one of the black chipboard gears from the Gears #2 pack and created my own ship wheel. Loving how it turned out.

The cloud is from the Celestial Shapes pack and is perfect for this little scene. I covered it with patterned paper and mounted it with Zapdots.

And finally the back page. Simple and full of texture.

These little Tiny Tabs Albums are so much fun to create with and can easily be deconstructed to create banners, ATC holders or name plate. Pick up a few with your next Basically Bare order. You are going to LOOOOOOVE them.

That’s it for me today. I’ll be back one last time tomorrow to share my final Guest Designer project for Basically Bare. Until then

Guest Designer Erika Taylor – Day One

June 28th, 2012 | By Beth in Uncategorized | 14 Comments »

Today we’re thrilled to welcome (or welcome back!) Erika Taylor.  She’ll be guesting with us for three days, so be sure to stop in and check out all the great projects.  Here’s Erika!

___________________________________________________

Hello everyone!!! It has been a while since I’ve been on the Basically Bare Blog, but I’m super excited to be a Guest Designer over the next few days.

My name is Erika Taylor and I am so honored to share with you a few projects over the next 3 days using Basically Bare products. These products are absolutely amazing to work with and I’ve had fun creating this first project for you.

Today I’m going to share with you a layout I created using the Betty’s Brackets Mini Album. First off I took a few chipboard pages out of the album and applied Gesso to one side. After that was dry, I liberally spritzed the chipboard with a combination of Lavender and Be Mine Glimmer Mist from Tattered Angels. I wanted even more texture, so I used a mask and some molding paste to create a design on the one corner.

Now here is the fun part. To create the shaped page, I laced together the two chipboard pages with ribbon to create a single page perfect for my layout. The hand dyed silk ribbon is finished off with a triple bow at the bottom. Pretty isn’t it???

I adding some fussy cut elements, and Dew Drops to the layout and then to finish it all off, I used a piece of chipboard from the Fanciful Frames package to create the backdrop for the title.

The perfect way to deconstruct a mini album and make it into a Scrapbook Layout. I love the way that ribbon looks and it was super easy to create. Here is the finished project for you.

Thank you so much for stopping by today. I would love to hear your comments and 1 lucky commenter over the next 3 days will win an assortment of Basically Bare goodies from me to you!!!

Until tomorrow

A Card To Say Hi

June 27th, 2012 | By admin in Cards, Hearts, Uncategorized | 2 Comments »

Hi everyone!  Christina here with my latest project.  For this go-round, I made a card to send to my sister in law, who is expecting a baby boy this fall.  I am mailing her this card along with this awesome bib, which I did not make.

I used Pink Paislee’s “Declaration” line.  I accented it using Basically Bare hearts.  I love the natural look of the felt and the canvas with this rustic Americana themed paper.

I love the feeling the little pop of twine and bling add.  My sister in law is very girly, so the bows and the bling really fit her.  And yet, the card still has a boyish look because of the burlap letters and the stars .

A great way to add some visual interest is to mix patterns.  Who says stripes and polka dots don’t mix?  ;)

Thanks for taking a look!  See ya next time!

Cheers!

Strength Card

June 26th, 2012 | By admin in Cards, Dress Forms | 2 Comments »

Hey there! Sarah’s in the houuusse! So last week I had the blessing of celebrating another birthday, so my mom and I went away for the weekend. During our travels we talked alot about our lives, what legacies we will leave behind, things of that nature. Something I learned about my mom is that she is one tough cookie! She has been through soo much in her life, and always putting other peoples needs in front of hers, taking care of her family, always serving others.  She is a tower of strength, and that is what inspired this card.

I love the Basically Bare Dress Forms! They are so fun to play with and dress up! I wanted the card to have kind of  a grungy gardenie feel, so what I did was “dirty” up the dress form with some walnut ink, then tore some of the paper off of it to reveal the corrugated part underneath.

I love to layer, and the Basically Bare Fanciful Frames are perfect for that! On this one, I slathered it with some crackle paint, then inked it to grunge it up.

Then layered a stamped die cut and dress form right on top, and voila! Easy peasy!

A super simple card, which a whole lot of meaning. I love it! Thank you all for stoppin by today! Have an amazing day!

Love, Sarah

What to Wear? A Layout & How-To on Coloring Canvas Embellishments

June 23rd, 2012 | By Kristin in Dress Forms, Page Layouts, Uncategorized | 7 Comments »

Hi Everyone! Kristin here, and today I’m going to be sharing with you a fun layout and a couple of tips on decorating those canvas embellishments with chalk inks.

A layout with canvas and chipboard embellishments

I love the way the little canvas pieces look right out of the package — soft and very cloth-like.   When using paint on canvas there is a tendency to get a firmer finish, and I really wanted to keep that soft, pliable look. I decided on using chalk inks to achieve my desired look.  After experimenting a bit, I’m really happy with the way they turned out, and I’d love to share a couple of tips with you.

Materials Needed: Canvas Embellishments, Chalk Ink (I used Prima), a Makeup Sponge, Spray Bottle (with water or rubbing alcohol), and a Zig FX White Paint Pen

Canvas Embellishments

Step 1: Wet the entire canvas piece. I used a spray bottle with rubbing alcohol (because it dries quickly) but you could also use water. You don’t need to saturate the canvas, just make sure that the top part (where you’re going to be putting the color) is good and damp.

Step 2: Grab your chalk ink, and just start stamping down with the ink pad directly onto the canvas. Don’t worry if it looks blotchy at this point, we’re going to even it all out.

Step 3: Grab a makeup sponge and wet the tip with your spray bottle. Start rubbing around the canvas piece in a circular motion. The goal here is to distribute the color more evenly. Add more chalk ink to the canvas piece as needed.

Step 4: Once you are satisfied with the color of your canvas, the last step is to use the paint pen around the outside of the embellishment. This will help prevent some of the fraying, as well as make the edges stand out a bit more.

Step 5: Add your final embellishments to the top and you are finished!

Chipboard embellishment with washi tape

Supplies Used: Basically Bare Dress Forms, Basically Bare Dress Me Up Clothes, Prima Chalk Ink in Teal Damask, Coltsfoot Stamens, and Old Road, Zig FX Painty Pen in White, Zig Millennium Pen, Kaisercraft Bling in Black, Heidi Swap Mistable Alphas,  Kesi Art Patterned Paper, Studio Calico Patterned Paper, Vintage Dress Pattern, Washi Tape (from Gauche Alchemy), Gauche Alchemy Punchinella

Thanks so much for stopping by!

PS: The dress form was embellished with lots of washi tape, just wrapped around and around until the entire embellishment was covered.

Family Recipes

June 21st, 2012 | By Beth in Altered Art | 5 Comments »

Good morning, guys!  I have a project to share today that includes my first ever video tutorial.  Check me out, getting all super high-tech and whatnot.

Last Christmas I made some small recipe books with a few Christmas-y recipes from my Nana’s recipe box, and since then I’ve been planning on doing a whole entire recipe box with copies of all of the original recipes to keep for myself.  And that’s what we have here:

I distressed the edges of the recipe box using some white gesso and Distress Inks, and then started piling on the embellies.  The front has some of the adorable Happy Little Houses, and the top has a piece from the Fanciful Frames set.

All of the Basically Bare embellies were distressed using gesso and Glimmer Mists.  I put together the video tutorial below to show how quick and really easy it is to do.

Due to the  untimely death of my video camera, this was recorded on my phone.  Never underestimate what you can do with a little determination and an iPhone!

In addition to the distressed Basically Bare embellies, I added some Prima and Recollections flowers and some lace (also distressed with Glimmer Mists) and jute cord.

The finishing touch is the “Family Recipes” label, punched with my trusty Dymo labelers.

Thanks so much for stopping by!  If you try out the distressing techniques in the tutorial, please leave a link to a picture of your project.  I’d love to see how it turns out!

x Beth

Canvas Fun!

June 20th, 2012 | By admin in Uncategorized | 7 Comments »

Hi everyone! Miae here to share with you a little something different for me!

I’m one of the Scrap Stars so I usually make layouts (which is totally my cup of tea)….but I’ve got this large pile of canvas staring at me and it’s been a while since I made something on them so I decided to do something a little different….

(click on the photos to get see a larger image)

I started off by tearing and layering some patterned paper on the canvas with mod podge. Next I lighty brushed gesso to soften the look of the different patterned papers. Over that I used a variety of mists, paints, inks, chalk, and stamps until I was happy with the background.

I went hunting for some branches and gave them a coat of mod podge too because they were very dry and I didn’t want them to snap too easily. I added leaves from Basically Bare’s Blossom and Leaves set after coloring the canvas leaves with Tim Holtz distress inks and Faber Castells Big Pitt Pens.  I think they match really well with the branches, don’t you?

I’d been itching to use the homes from the Happy Little House set since I’d first seen them and they were so fun to turn into birdhouses! I covered them with a wood grained patterned paper then used my Kuretake embossing pen to draw over the pattern and emboss with Tim Holtz distress embossing powder.

I wanted the birds to be the focal point so I colored them in their bright colors and kept them solid to contrast against all the other patterns. To color the two felt birds I took out my Pearl Ex mica powders and dabbed into the felt. A little hint: since Pearl Ex has no binding agent, you need a fixative to make the fine powder stay. I sprayed the  birds with a misting bottle  that has a mixture of water and gum arabic…my fixative.  The yellow birdie is chipboard painted with gesso, colored with india ink and also covered with Pearl Ex.

Well that’s my project for today!

A Day At The Lake

June 19th, 2012 | By Emily in Uncategorized | 4 Comments »

Hello again! It’s Emily here with a fun & Happy summer-ish project to share today!

I feel like I don’t make enough mini albums for myself, so when I use the awesome Basically Bare albums, I force myself to make albums including some of my own photos. I am glad that I am forceful with myself in the sense that I now have beautiful little albums sitting all over my home!

For this album I used some of the bright & colorful papers from the Amy Tangerine Sketchbook series. Sooo pretty! I am a colorful person, so I needed a mini album to go along with that!

I just love this album! It’s the “Wonky Windows” Album. So much fun!

I had some pics laying here from 2010, when my husband and I first started dating. Always a fun time to look back on those magical moments in the beginning. We took a little day trip/picnic to the lake with my daughter and of coarse, I snapped a few pics while we were there!

As you can see, I also added pieces from the Aarows & Paparazzi Embellies sets. I used some of my Zig Millenium pens & Painty FX pens to doodle in this album. Doodling adds some extra cool effects to mini albums & you can’t mess it up!

Thanks for stopping by today! I hope I was able to inspire you &  brighten your day with this colorful album!
