A Garden Of Love

April 30th, 2012 | By admin in Blossoms and Leaves, Cards | 6 Comments »

Happy Monday everyone! Sarah’s in the houuuusee! ;)

Have you all been working diligently on your Mother’s Day cards?! (wink wink) Well, it is quickly approaching and I’m here to remind you to not forget about Gramma! She’s a momma too right? Of course! This time around I had the pleasure of playing with not only Basically Bare products, but The Paper Loft products as well. They generously provided me the “Gentler Times” line to play with, and included were these really cool accessory sheets that you can cut apart. One of them popped out at me because it had the word garden in it, (which I love!) so I cut it out, ran it through my die cutting machine and this is what I came up with;

I really love the muted calm colors in this paper line, very “gentle!” I took a Basically Bare canvas blossom and stamped on it with some avacado-ish ink, and tucked it back behind a Basically Bare frame that got slathered with some crackle paint and walnut ink.

Basically Bare products are so much fun to work with because you can pretty much do anything you want to them! Endless possibilities! I added some stitching through some Basically Bare Leaves and placed them behind a Prima flower;

It was fun pairing up Basically Bare with The Paper Loft! I hope I’ve inspired you all to go and whip out some Mother’s Day cards, and don’t forget Granny! ;) Thanks for hangin out!

xoxo Sarah

Love Potion Number 9…

April 29th, 2012 | By Rebecca in Altered Art | 7 Comments »

I have a thing for other people’s garbage. What is trash to one person, can be treasure to me. I enjoy upcycling many of my finds. It makes me happy knowing I am saving something from the dumpster, and I love breathing new life into discarded and unloved things. My latest find is an empty reed diffuser that still had it’s stopper. The reeds had been damaged, so I had to let them go, but the bottle was gorgeous and inspired me.

I was inspired to transform this bottle into some kind of magical potion, and what could be better than Love Potion No.9? I filled the bottle with water, glitter, and some fun baubles. Then I used Watermelon and Pearl alcohol inks to color it. I think it turned out great!

The Basically Bare Wings are the star of the show here. I colored a few of the chipboard ones  with a White Zig Painty FX Marker. I covered that with coarse glitter while it was still wet and the paint acted as my adhesive, very cool right?

I have a love for apothecary bottles, potions, brews, and all things obscure. One day I hope to have a large display of them, and this beauty will be sitting cozily among them!

Kite Flying with Pink Paislee

April 28th, 2012 | By admin in Hearts, Page Layouts, Pennants | 14 Comments »

Hello everybody! Today I wanted to share with you a page I created with Basically Bare and Pink Paislee. Working with the Prairie Hill collection was so much fun! They had a kite flying theme to their products and I just went with it J.  I made some kite embellishments for my page and yes, I might have gone a little off the deep end with them, but seriously, piling on the layers was so much fun! Let me show you…

For the larger kite I started with polka dot paper (love the blue and grey!) and layered with the felt scalloped circle from the Happy Little Trees set. I colored the edge yellow with the fabric markers from Kuretake. To that I added a cardboard heart. I was going for a shabby chic, whimsical look so I exposed the corrugation and dabbed with gesso.  Lastly I piled on some flowers, buttons, thread and tucked in a cute banner from the Small Pennants set.

For the second kite I layered with the same shapes but in different materials…canvas and chipboard (how nice is that to have all those options!). I topped this kite off with that very cute dimensional accolade sticker from Pink Paislee.

The Prairie Hill collection came with so many great patterns and elements. I hand cut some different shapes using the different patterened papers to frame my photo and used my Zig Writer pen to doodle their borders. I used the “Up up and away” stamp to add movement behind the kites. Lastly I added a subtitle to my layout with their adorable alphas.

Well that’s my page for today! Hope you enjoyed it!

Be Awesome Today

Hi Everyone! Kristin here :)

I’m excited to share a layout that I had so much fun making. I pulled together a combination of Basically Bare goodies and Pink Paislee’s Spring Jubilee collection.

Basically Bare and Pink Paislee layout by Kristin Tweedale

The bright colors of Spring Jubilee really pop on neutral backgrounds, so I grabbed the newspaper patterned sheet as my background and worked from there.  I added some Pink Paislee rub-ons (Spring Jubilee and She Art collections) to the neutral background, and matted the entire layout on bright green patterned paper.

I loved the idea of painting the Basically Bare chipboard Frames a stark black (using the amazing Zig black painty markers) and using them to frame the ultra bright pink and blue papers. The Zig painty markers really do make it super easy to paint chipboard. I keep them right on my desk at all times. I also used them to paint over the foam Thickers in my title, easily making my own coordinating alpha!

I used three separate frames: one for my photo (approx. 4×6) and then two more for the patterned papers.  After backing the frames, I played around with the arrangement a little until I was satisfied.

As you can see I stacked the center frame with the photo, on top of the two other frames. This gave the layout a lot of dimension right at the focal point.

One of my favorite parts of this layout is this little embellishment cluster to the bottom left of the photo.  The acrylic heart is a part of the LOVEly locket set, I trimmed off the lock piece at the top, and I was left with a clear acrylic heart. Also in the cluster are a chipboard star from the Celestial Shapes collection as well as a chipboard button from the Buttons collection; those are both covered with a coordinating patterned paper from the Spring Jubilee collection.

I added Pink Paislee ‘She Art’ rub-ons to the top of both the acrylic heart and the chipboard star, just to give it a little bit more of a artsy, textured feel.

Thank you so much for letting me share my layout with all of you today!

Lots of Love,

Kristin

Thank You

Hey there, Tanisha here continuing the product swap week between Pink Paislee and Basically Bare.  Anyone who knows me knows that I am a big Pink Paislee fan, so getting to work with the Indigo Bleu line AND my favorite Basically Bare products made creating this layout extra fun!

I used Basically Bare Pennants (large), Dress Form, Blossoms & Leaves, Fanciful Frames, and Birds  as well as stamps and embossing powders from WOW.

These pennants are some of my new faves!!  I covered them with patterned paper, heat embossed using WOW’s neutral ultra shimmer embossing glitter and then layered with wood embellishments and flowers.  I used the same powder on the canvas leaf and then outlined with Zig Memory System Millennium pen.

I swear, I can’t get enough of the dress forms!!  I peeled the top layer of cardboard off of the bodice, swiped with white acrylic paint and then covered with patterned paper, lace, and a wooden button.

I like to add plain chipboard to a lot of my projects.  I think the neutral kraft color gives the viewer’s eye a break.

The Fanciful Frame is the perfect size for a 4×6 photo.  I coated the one here with WOW’s Black Glint Embossing Glitter — love that shine!

Last but certainly not least, is the acrylic birdie nestled among the flowers.  I use a stamp from WOW Call Me stamp set and staz-on ink to stamp the script writing.  I embossed the felt wing with embossing glittered and added a pearl to the eye.

I hope you leave here today with some ideas for different ways to use Basically Bare’s products!!

Until next time,

Tanisha

Life with Wonky Windows and Spring Jubilee

April 25th, 2012 | By Veronica in Birds, Dress Forms, Mini Albums & Journals, Uncategorized | 20 Comments »

Love the window opening

Hi Everyone, Veronica here! This is my first post as a Basically Bare Design Team member and I am so thrilled. I first saw all the fabulousness that is Basically Bare a year ago at CHA in Chicago. Their booth stopped me in my tracks; I couldn’t believe all the mixed media albums and embellishments! I love making minis, and more than that, I love making mini’s with a mixture of chipboard, acrylic, canvas and envelopes. So when I was accepted into their talented design team I was and am so excited.

I chose to use the Mixed Media Wonky Windows Albums. I love all the different open “windows” in this book and thought it would be great to use it with my Pink Paislee Spring Jubilee collection. I had so much fun making this album, I stamped the canvas page, I embossed the acrylic page, I sanded the chipboard page – and I loved all the peek-a-boo windows.

I always get inspired by color and pattern and the Pink Paislee “Spring Jubilee” collection has all that in abundance. I love the turquoise, yellow and pinks in this collection and there were plenty of birds and butterflies to work with. I was in a creative mojo heaven.

I also used the following Basically Bare embellishments on my album, along with many techniques, one of which was painting and coloring.  I used the Kuretake Zig fabricolor and the Painty fx pens for that.

Canvass and Felt Pieces – Dress Me Up Clothes

Cardboard and Chipboard Pieces – Dress Me Up Dressforms

Stack-a-Bellies – Acrylic Chipboard and Felt Pieces – Birds
Bare Basics – Canvas Chipboard and Felt Pieces – Blossoms and Leaves

Signature Series – Chipboard and Felt Pieces – Fanciful Frames Set

I can’t say enough about my stash of Basically Bare albums and embellishments, I love playing with them and I hope I have inspired you to play with them too!

I ran the acrylic birdie through my embossing folder then I used alcohol ink to color it. Isnt she cute

Used chipboard frame around "window" and also used canvas leaf that I colored with the ZIG fabricolor pens

This is the "back" of the front of the album, notice the little birdie tail sticking out.

I used stazon ink and stamped on the canvas page

I used glimmer mist on the felt birdie then I outlined her with ZIG painty fx pens

On this canvas page I used the Kuretake Painty White pen to make circles as a pattern on the background.

I used glimmer mist on the birdie then I stamped her with stazon

The album came with an acrylic page, so I cut the page in half, cut into banner shape and ran it through my embossing folder

Here is the back side of that banner.  In order to for the embossed pattern to show I used a stazon pad to run lightly across the pattern.  Then I embellished the banner on both sides.  Look at my cute canvas leaf.  I love canvas

The Spring Jubilee paper is so pretty I didnt want to cover it up

Love this window page.  I love how you can see the other side

Since whatever you put on the window page in the front, you need to shadow the same embellishment on the back so it is cohesive

The Dress form is one of FAVORITE Basically Bare embellishments

The covers of the album were painted with both yellow and white Kuretake Painty FX pens.  Then I used a shiney finish to paint over the chipboard.  After it dried, I embossed it using a circle background stamp.  The finishing touch was the rub on from Pink Paislee.

Thank you so much for joining us today!!

Pink Paislee and Basically Bare… LOVE is in the Air!

April 24th, 2012 | By admin in Altered Art, Birds, By Product, By Project Type, Hearts, Pennants | 21 Comments »

I have to say when I heard that we were pairing up with Pink Paislee I was so excited!!  I LOVE them!  When I got my papers and embellishments from them, I KNEW I was in love!  This project was a labor of LOVE… it seriously tested my limits and I wasn’t sure I even would finish it. It finally came together and I LOVE it!  I used the Pink Paislee “Indigo Bleu” line.  It was perfect with it’s hues of blue and yellow with a mix of neutrals.  Just my style!  So without further ado, here is my project:

Love is in the Air

I created a handmade hot air balloon with papers, packaging, wire, twine, and Basically Bare shapes!  All the papers, stamps, and packaging came from Pink Paislee’s “Indigo Bleu” line. First, I created the balloon sides with paper and wire (using lots of hot glue to hold it all together!). Once they were joined with glue and wire, I stitched them together with Pink Paislee twine (from the House of 3 “Soiree” line) and a needle.

The banners are made with packaging from the stamps, scrap papers, and twine.

The basket is made from putting together 4 of the Bare Basics- Large Pennants using glue and covered with papers.

I attached the basket by gluing the twine to the corners and made them extra long to allow for attaching to the balloon and the mobile parts.

I used one of the canvas Bare Basic Hearts from Set #2 to create the patch.  I stamped one of the Pink Paislee stamps on with StazOn.   I stitched it on with more twine.

Now, I used clouds from the Celestrial Shapes set and stamped with StazON to add design.  I also added words with Pink Paislee’s letter stickers.  The hearts are from the Bare Basics Hearts Set #1 and stamped or covered with the papers.  I added the wings from the Bare Basics Wings set.

The cardboard heart was stamped and filled in with the Zig Memory Writers.  They are bright and easy to use!

Lastly, I covered the little bird from the Stack-a-Bellies Birds set with papers and added a wing to them.  I attached it to the top and created a hanger with wire.  This beauty is hanging in my entry way!

I hope you liked my project using Basically Bare products and Pink Paislee’s “Indigo Bleu” line. It was a labor of LOVE and I was completely inspired by the papers, colors and shapes that I had to work with… they made my heart soar!

Birds Of A Feather

April 23rd, 2012 | By admin in Altered Art, Birds, Hearts | 19 Comments »

Hi there Basically Bare fans!  It’s Erin here again at the wheel today, and I had so much fun making this canvas with products from Basically Bare and Pink Paislee!

Don’t you just love those little birdies?  Each one is made of different Basically Bare materials….felt, chipboard, and acrylic.

Made out of the felt bird

Made out of the chipboard bird

Made out of the acrylic bird

I also took a canvas heart, embroidered my our initials on it and some edge stitching, and added that to the tree trunk.  That’s my favorite part of this canvas!

Embroidered canvas heart

I also frayed the heart edges…like I do on just about any fabric I get my hands on.  ;)  To keep it from fraying too much I like to put some Fray Check along the fray so it doesn’t get out of control.  Once it’s dry you can’t even see it.

Close up!

This turned out to be such a spring-y project!! Perfect timing!

Time Flies – Basically Bare and the Paper Loft

April 20th, 2012 | By admin in Altered Art, Birds | 122 Comments »

Hello BB Fans!! DeeDee here again, for my 2nd post already as a member of the Art Assembly team.. I can’t believe how fast time goes by.

I’m still enamored by the glorious Basically Bare and Kuretake products that we get to play with, and now we’ve been given the opportunity to pair up with The Paper Loft!!

I was generously sent the “Gentler Times” Collection.. a pack of 12×12 double sided paper, a pack of matching 12×12 distressed cardstock, and a slew of cardstock accessory sheets.

To accompany my Paper Loft goodness I pulled out my  Basically Bare Birds embellishment set and my Black Kuretake Paint Pen… which is SO AMAZING! It’s basically spraypaint in a pen form.. and it’s wonderful! I also acquired Distress stain in rusty hinge, distress ink in spiced marmalade, mustard seed, vintage photo and walnut ink, as well as alcohol ink in espresso and brads in various metal finishes.

The tag is two tags layered.. both were cut from the distressed cardstock by The Paper Loft — I inked the lighter color with my distress ink and splattered with distress stain. The bottom layer of the tag only uses the walnut distress stain. I also gave the birdie some body with a bit of vintage photo distress ink. His crown is via a stamp and black memento ink.

The bird’s eye started out as a silver brad and a silver gear shaped piece from the hardware store. I colored the brad with some alcohol ink and the gear with my black kuretake paint pen! It went on so smooth and the finish is so fun!!

I love the 3D Effect that layering the BB Embellishments gives.. nice depth without being too bulky, you can really see the layers to this tag in this photo. The bird chipboard is so thick and sturdy, it’s super high quality stuff with a fabulous shape!!

And here is a closeup of the inking, the speckling, and the splattering — plus that gorgeous Paper Loft clock from one of their cardstock accessory sheets!!

Thanks so much for stopping by to see what I had to share this week. -DeeDee

Stop by and see the Paper Loft and all their great cardstocks at the link below!
