Polly’s Pockets album by Sarah

January 31st, 2012 | By Beth in Mini Albums & Journals | 4 Comments »

Hi Everyone!

Today I’m sharing one of my CHA projects with the new Polly’s Pockets Album, I made mine into a Home Journal…

Supply List – Polly’s Pockets Album, Felt Frame, Chipboard Pennants – Basically Bare, Farmhouse Papers & Embellishments – October Afternoon, other embellishments from stash

Here are a few close ups of the front cover…

For the first pocket page I made some ‘Telephone Number’ Sheets, using a pennant and a phone embellishment on the front of the pocket

For the second, I printed some meal planner sheets to keep inside the pocket…

For the third, I printed some To-Do lists… (all of the titles are on a Basically Bare Pennant / banner piece that I’ve covered with paper and added some punched paper to)

And for the last pocket page I printed some weekly planner sheets…

I also had this weekly journaling card so I stapled it to the front of the pocket and added a sheet of acetate over the top – now it can be written on with a dry-wipe pen and wiped clean at the end of each week!

Thanks so much for looking!

Wonky Windows Album Part 2

January 30th, 2012 | By Beth in Hearts, Mini Albums & Journals | 3 Comments »

Welcome back, y’all!  Today I’ve got the second half of the brand new Wonky Windows album that I started sharing on the blog yesterday.

Here, again, is the cover.  This is such a great album, and it’s only one of the fantastic new Basically Bare albums currently being introduced to the world at CHA.

There are three pages in this album with windows, they are super fun to work with.  One of the other window pages is on yesterday’s post so if you didn’t see it, go check it out!

Now on to the new stuff.  We pick things back up with the clear acrylic page.  On this page I stamped the entire surface with a sheet music stamp and metallic gold alcohol ink.  I left a space for a photo, but on this page I adhered the mat to the back side of the page using Glossy Accents, leaving the top edge open so that it formed a photo pocket.

The Basically Bare Lovely Locket is coated with brand new WOW embossing powders.  They immediately became my favorite embossing powders, without any doubt.

They melted beautifully both with the coat-the-whole-darn-thing method like on the locket, as well as with the stamped techniques coming up in a minute.  They’re brand new and you have to check them out!

On the back side of the acrylic page, I added a Bare Basics Heart which was embossed with Florescent Magenta WOW embossing powder.

The canvas embossed just as well as the chipboard did, you just have to keep your heat tool moving constantly or you will singe the edges of the canvas.

Here is the third of the window pages, which I used here to frame the bunch of flowers.  I left the majority of the page open for a photo or two.

Those gold hearts are embossed, again using WOW gold embossing powder.  It’s got a really pretty glimmer that just doesn’t come through in the photos.

The back of the window page is embellished with an element cut from more of the Pink Paislee Butterfly Garden collection.

The items on the canvas page are sewn on using clear quilting thread.

Using embroidery thread I blanket-stitched around the edge of the photo mat and then crocheted a border.

The back side of the canvas is covered with Chalkboard Glimmer Mist.

The inside of the back cover has some more photo mats and has glittery accents that were added using a Wink of Stella pen by Kuretake.  I seriously want one in every color.

The butterfly is cut from more of the Pink Paislee paper and glimmered up with the Wink of Stella pen.

The back cover covered here and there with Glimmer Glam.

Thank you so much for checking out this brand new album!  Be sure to come back often to see more of the new CHA releases!

Wonky Windows Album Part 1

January 29th, 2012 | By Beth in Mini Albums & Journals | 2 Comments »

Hello again, everyone!  It’s CHA time, and that means brand new products. I have to say there are some awesome new items from Basically Bare, and we’re so excited to start showing them off!

This is one of the new albums debuting at CHA right now.  It’s called Wonky Windows and it is so much fun to work with!  Let’s start at the beginning.  It is, after all, a very fine place to start.

The front cover gives us our first look at the windows involved in this album.  I covered it, and all of the other pages, with Pink Paislee’s Butterfly Garden collection of papers.  The edges of the window are outlined with Tattered Angels Glimmer Glaze for some shimmer.

Even with the window the inside of the front cover still has plenty of open space for small photos or journaling.

Next up is a good, sturdy corrugated cardboard page.  After I covered the page with the Pink Paislee papers and sprayed it with some Glimmer Mist, I traced a chipboard Bare Basics heart and then carefully cut along the outline with an x-acto knife.  By making a very shallow cut, I was able to remove only the top layer of the page and leave the ribs inside the corrugated page intact.  I added some canvas Bare Basics hearts, paper leaves, and a Prima flower (all of which started out white or beige but were colored using only Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists).

I ran some Stickles in the grooves and around the outside of the cutout to make it a little shimmery.

On the back of the corrugated cardboard page is a Bare Basics heart colored with Tattered Angels Chalkboard Glimmer Mist.

I left a mat for a photo and added a Prima ribbon embellishment.

I embellished the next window page with the Basically Bare Climbing Ivy set.  The leaves are colored with Glimmer Mist and the vine with alcohol ink.

To make the “mortar” between the bricks I mixed acrylic paint with Liquitex Opaque Flakes gel medium. The gel medium added dimension and kept the paint from flattening out and sinking into the gaps between the bricks.

On the back of the brick wall page there’s a mat for a photo and a tag for a little journaling.

There’s still lots of this album to see, and the rest is coming up tomorrow.  Please come back and see us again then!

Until tomorrow,

Beth x

Re-purposed Photo Frame

January 28th, 2012 | By JamieP in Altered Art | No Comments »

Do you have empty photo frames lying around?  Why not put them to good use!  Jamie  here with you once again and today I have a fun way to make use of those empty frames.  How about turning them into a memo board?  All you need is a dry erase marker and you can make note after note on the glass.

I discovered some old Fancy Pants paper in my stash and decided it was high time it was used.  And with keeping with the boy theme of the paper, I used the Basically Embellies chipboard and corrugated gears.

All three gears were heat embossed with multiple colors of powders.

The gear farthest to the right was embossed with a mix of WOW and Lindy’s Stamp Gang powders.  The middle gear was embossed with WOW and Ranger Distress Embossing Powders.  Each gear has three to four layers of powder, with each layers beautifully melding together to give a wonderful texture.

For the largest gear I used Ranger Verdigris powder, WOW powders in Metallic Gold Rich Pale and Metallic Copper, and Lindy’s Stamp Gang powders in Midnight Obsidian Emerald.

Frame Enhancement

January 27th, 2012 | By admin in Altered Art, Birds, Blossoms and Leaves, By Product | 17 Comments »

Gosh ya’al, where did January go already!!!  Moving right along and starting to think ahead to  warmer days, past and future, I have given you today a quick look at beach past.

The three wooden frames used in my project are from Walnut Hollow.  Carefully made, light colored wood these frames are perfect to use for all sorts of different projects.  I am sharing my latest with you.

The frames were whitewashed and then a thin coat of blue was added on.  I then sanded down the colors to give a ‘seawash-look’ to them.

The bird above was made using white pieces of flowers and coordinating papers.  The bird itself is from Basically Bare and oh so easy to work with.  Below you will see the process I used to make the bird.  It is so easy and the effect is beautiful.

Excuse the flash, I tried the photo at many angles and it still had a shine.  I am showing how I cut the flower petals and the beginning of adding the petals to the bird body.

The bird is now starting to take shape and you can see the pattern for overlapping and following the outline of the bird-body.  Keep adding the petals, overlapping and adding rows until the last petal is wedged in.

The bird is now almost finished.  I added a glass bead for the eye and gold paint for the beak.  The tail feathers were added last.

Just one more little added suggestion.  Your bird feathers can be made from any color flower petals. With the use of white flowers, the feathers can be easily tinted any color to match your individual project.  Endless possibilities.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoyed the making of my ‘flowered-bird’.  It was fun and a great way to repurpose!

All Geared Up

January 26th, 2012 | By admin in Page Layouts | 1 Comment »

Happy Thursday everyone!!  There’s just one more day until the weekend.  Do you have any plans?  I recently reorganized my scrap room and came across some wonderful supplies that I had forgotten all about.  So can you guess what I’m doing?  Mmmm hmmm, scrapping, baby.

I found this sketch on  the Sketchy Thursdays blog, then coupled some of those “forgotten” products with 2  Bare Basics Gears and an envelop that I tore from one of the new mini albums for use here on this layout.

I used the smallest chipboard and the largest acrylic gears.

To add a little texture, I added WOW embossing powder in high gloss silver to the chipboard gear.  I used my finger to brush some of it off before heat embossing for more of a distressed look.

Before adhering the gear to my layout, I used it as a stamp.

I inked the back using embossing ink and then stamped in various places on my layout.

I heat embossed as I normally would after stamping an image.

Check it out– I love the look!

Here’s a close-up of the gears.  I left the acrylic gear plain and just used it as a layering device.

How cool does that envelop look here?  Not only does it serve as a mat for my photos, it holds my journaling.  I attached 2 punched circles and then used a piece of twine to close it.

Thanks so much for stopping by today!!

Our Guest Designer, Becky Launder, Is Back!

January 25th, 2012 | By Beth in Mini Albums & Journals, Page Layouts | 3 Comments »

Here for her second post as our January guest designer is Becky.  We really appreciate her beautiful work!  Take it away, Becky! :)

I’m so happy to be back on the Basically Bare blog! Becky here — I’m excited to share with you a few more Basically Bare projects that I’ve been working on.

When I dropped by a few weeks back, I shared an adorable engagement brag book.  I’ve been busy and have an assortment of
projects for you here today!

I don’t know about you, but I’ve loved the sneak peeks and I’m REALLY excited about the new Basically Bare products that are coming out at
CHA! Can’t wait to play with these goodies! Yay.

To start, check out this adorable baby album using Basically Bare’s Simply Shapely Mixed Media Album. Baby Evanna and Mama Elmy are just too cute. I especially love this album because the scalloped edges give a really fun girly look and feel and there are a ton of fun textures to enjoy.

Next up is an adorable family themed brag book using Basically Bare’s Krafty Keepsake Album. This album is dressed up with cute ribbons and tags – a perfect family keepsake! I especially like the rugged brown kraft paper look to these pages. It gave the album a ton of character. I don’t know about you, but I always have such a hard time narrowing down my favorite photos. This practical album is full of envelopes which made it perfect to include the extra photos that didn’t fit on the pages.

Next up is a Funky Findings Album. This may be my favorite Basically Bare album! I had so much fun with this 25th Anniversary brag book. It is full of memories from a beautiful cruise. Amazing scenic photos! Each page of the album represents a day of their trip! The mini kraft envelopes, acrylic page and canvas create such a fun messy mix of a mini album. I love it! Check out these textures…

For the acrylic page (Day 6 above), I used patterned paper with a design on each side and fun chipboard embellishments painted red on one
side and left “raw” on the other.

On the canvas page, I stapled on the papers and photos. The mini kraft envelopes are also covered in ribbon, embellishments and
coordinating patterned paper.

Although I DO love putting together mini albums, I thought I’d switch things up and play a little with Basically Bare’s embellies! These
are adorable little cupcakes in cardboard and canvas! “Hey Cupcake!” is a 12×12 page that I plan to frame and put up in my kitchen! These cupcakes are covered with chunky glitter, spray glitter mist and flocking. They are topped with a few embellishments and decorated with fabric pens. So yummy!

Last, but definitely not least – here are a few fun photos from a Grandma’s Mini Album. This is also a krafty keepsake album by Basically Bare
embellished with a ton of cute photos of little Auggie.

Hope you have enjoyed these fun projects! Looking forward to playing around with Basically Bare’s new releases! Can’t wait! Have a great
week!

Thanks again, Becky!  And thank you all for stopping by!

Eggshell Brooch and Little Sneaks

January 24th, 2012 | By admin in Altered Art, Paisleys | 2 Comments »

Hey there everyone, Erika Taylor here today to share with you a project I created from some serious inspiration. Trudy Sjolander created a beautiful heart brooch a while back and I had to try my hand in creating one too. For this piece I used a chipboard piece from the Stack-a-Bellies Paisley pack. I first brushed the entire chipboard surface with Helmar Acid Free Glue, then applied the crushed eggshells to the Paisley piece. Once dry I gave it a thick coat of Helmar Decoupage and Craft paste.

While the paisley was still wet, I sprinkled a few colors of Wow Embossing Powders onto it. (Nutmeg and Olive earthtones). I grabbed my heat gun and set it. Purdy Purdy. Last but not least I added a coat of Helmar Sealer to protect it. The outcome? here it is!!!

A close up of those eggshells…

I think I’m going to try one of these using the fantastic Bare Basic Gears. Now that would be cool!!!

Now yesterday on the Basically Bare blog we shared the new Tiny Tabs album. I’m going to need a million of these and that says a lot considering I’ve never embrace mini albums. UNTIL NOW!!! I wanted to share with you just 1 page I created. If you are going to CHA, stop by Booth #2704 to see all of the amazing albums that Basically Bare is releasing. I’ll see you there!!!

Until next time
