Paper Dolls

December 31st, 2011 | By admin in Blossoms and Leaves, Cards, Dress Forms, Uncategorized | 4 Comments »

Anyone out there, besides me, old enough to remember playing with paper dolls as a kid?  I remember getting some for Christmas many years ago and playing to my heart’s content.  Basically Bare’s Dress Forms Set puts me in the mind of  paper dolls because  there are many different ways that I can dress them up.  I mean, the possibilities are endless!!

For my card, I started with a chipboard dress form and a felt flower from the Blossoms & Leaves set.

I used WOW embossing powder in metallic copper to emboss the top and bottom posts on the dress form.  This stuff melts like butter and is ever so shiny!  Love it!

I traced the dress form onto patterned paper and then trimmed.  TIP: I don’t use pencils to trace my elements, I use a stylus.  I find that I can get closer to whatever I’m tracing and I don’t have to erase.  Cool, right?!

After cutting from patterned paper, I adhered the paper onto the chipboard.

I inked the edges and then added a few embellishments: a piece of pom pom trim to the hem of the dress, a strip of tiny pearls to the neckline, and a flower and button to the waistline.

I decided that the white flower was too bright, so I used a paintbrush to paint it with silver sugar glimmer mist.  I added a bow and half pearl to the button and then adhered to my project.

Here’s the finished card.  I see many more of these little dress forms in my future; I simply cannot get enough of them!

Here’s a close-up of the Basically Bare elements.

Thanks so much for stopping by the blog today!!

Have a safe and happy New Year!!

Angel Card

December 30th, 2011 | By Beth in Cards | 1 Comment »

Can you believe that the year is nearly over?  I hope you all are enjoying the last bits of the holidays.  Today I have the last of my Christmas projects to share.

This card features the fab Basically Bare Fanciful Frames set.

I inked the frame by rubbing a gold ink pad directly onto the chipboard surface.

The ribbon was tied around the stamped image before it was adhered to the frame so that the ends are tucked neatly out of view.

Thanks so much for stopping by.  I hope you all have a lovely day!  Happy New Year!

Celestial Candle

December 29th, 2011 | By JamieP in Altered Art | 1 Comment »

Do you love candles?  How about alcohol inks? How about combining both into a fun project? Jamie here with you today to do just that!

I started by taking a plain jane white candle and completely covering it with several shades of alcohol ink.

Next, apply a couple drops of Kurecolor Ink in Orange and Snow Cap Mixative to an applicator felt and apply to an acrylic star from the Bare Basics Celestial Set.

For this last step, you’ll need to raid your pantry! Yes, the pantry.  The moon shape, also from the Celestial Set, is covered completely in foil and then ran through a Cuttlebug for a bit of dry embossing.   Carefully cover the raised portions of the moon with embossing ink, sprinkle with embossing powder, and then heat set the powder.  I used WOW embossing glitter in Metallic Platinum Sparkle.  It’s a perfect match in color to the foil and also provides a fun texture to contrast to the smoothness of the foil.

For a last bit of embellishment, I added a metal sentiment and a few beads.

Lalaloopsy love!

December 28th, 2011 | By Rebecca in Uncategorized | 2 Comments »

I hope everyone had a great holiday! We had a wonderful day here, everyone was very pleased with Santa’s selections. My daughter Rylie was extra excited, she wanted a Lalaloopsy doll and got two of them! She also got her own little camera and has been taking pictures of her new babies constantly. On top of that, she asks me to take pictures of her with them all the time.

Yes, she definitely is in love! You know what that means: Momma had to scrap a layout ASAP! I turned to the Lovely Locket set for inspiration and came up with this page.  Rylie loves it, and so do I!

Wreath for anytime!

December 27th, 2011 | By admin in Uncategorized | 1 Comment »

A quick after-Christmas hello to everyone.  Hi, I am Sandra and I hope everyone had a wonderful time with family and friends.  By now I am sure you want to take a few minutes for yourself to ponder what 2012 will be bringing your way.  I have a perfect idea for you.  The wreath I am featuring today is 6″ round and was a joy to create.  The feathers, ribbon and Basically Bare bird/hearts add to the whimsey of the wreath.

A new product I was able to use for this project was ZIG Kurecolor Ink, cornflour blue.  The color intensity is fabulous!  I used it around the edges of 2 hearts and completely covered 1 heart.   Below is a pic of how I did the bird coloring.

The photo is a little fuzzy but you can see how the ink was added.  First I put pure white paint in the cup, then added just enough ink to surround the outside of the paint.  When you dip in your brush, it comes out 2 colors.  Using a feathering technique paint your bird’s body and the wing.

Side view highlighting the beautiful feathers.

It was a joy making this project and sharing it with you’al.

Have a safe and Happy New Year and I look forward to what 2012 will bring.

Sandra

White Christmas Canvas

December 24th, 2011 | By JamieP in Altered Art, Birds | 1 Comment »

Jamie here with you once again and today I have a step by step tutorial on how to create a wonderful piece of Christmas art.   I hope you enjoy!

Once complete, you’ll have created an 8 1/2 x 11 canvas piece that can be used year after year for decoration.  It would also make a fab gift too!

Step One: Cover entire canvas, both the top and all four sides, with a thin layer of gel medium and cover with tissue paper. Set aside to dry.

Step Two: Dip a paintbrush into white paint and flick the paint onto the canvas. Repeat with silver paint.

Step Three: Attach a thin strip of punchinella, which will be the “trunk” to our Christmas tree.

Step Four: Trim around the edges of four strips of fabric with pinking shears and adhere to the canvas.

Step Five: Using a paintbrush, add a fairly thick layer of SnowTex to the bottom of the canvas. Then, using a dry brush technique, add random bits of SnowTex to the remainder of the canvas. While the SnowTex is still wet, sprinkle with glitter and tap off any excess. Set aside to dry.

Step Seven: Cut the heart from a felt key, which is from the Lovely Locket Set and paint it with Glimmer Glam.  Once dry, attach to the top of the Christmas tree.

Step Eight: Completely cover one side of an acrylic bird from the Stack-a-Bellies Bird Set with a thick layer of Stickles and set aside to dry.  Once dry, adhere to the canvas with the glittered side facing the canvas.

Step Nine: Lastly, add letter stickers to make your sentiment and also add a few holly leaves and berries.

Another Button Frame and an Extra Treat

December 23rd, 2011 | By admin in Altered Art | 1 Comment »

Yes, you’ve seen a button frame from me before, but I just had to make another. I needed a pair of them for a Christmas gift so there ya have it. Hey there everyone, Erika Taylor here today and I am so ready for Christmas. Presents are wrapped, clothes are hanging, cookies for Santa are ready. Today I’ve got a frame and an ornament to share with you.

First off, The frame uses the Bare Basic Buttons and Bare Basic Hearts. Where is the heart you ask? The wings are the heart, I just cut them hehe. I like cutting things up, what can I say. So shall we go the the show? here it is for ya. Filled with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist Goodness too.

Now for a few close ups of those delish buttons

Yum Yum Yum Right?Ah heck de doodles, it is the Season, so I made a little extra something for todays post. This ornament is made from the Stack-a-Bellies Owls and the Up Up and Away set. I used the acrylic and canvas circles for the ornament itself (the acrylic is sandwiched in between the canvas for some support). The Holly leaves are cut from the Owls wings and the holly berries are his eyes. Now if that wasn’t fantastic enough, I want to show you something really special!!! The design on the canvas is embossing powder!!!!! Yup Embossing Powder from a company called WoW. WOW indeed.

A few close ups for ya

That’s it for me today. I hope all of you have a fantastic Holiday Season. From the Taylor house to yours…

Happy Holidays

A Flying Robin from Sarah

December 22nd, 2011 | By Beth in Uncategorized | 1 Comment »

Hello again everyone,

Today I’m sharing a Christmassy project – a Flying Robin Christmas Card…

Supply List – Basically Bare Fanciful Frames, Basically Bare Stack-a-Bellies Birds, Tinseltown CD – Sarah Hurley, Stickles (Star Dust) – Ranger, A5 Cream Card Blank, Brown & Red Acrylic Paint, Gold Thread, Craft Knife, Piercing Tool, Cutting Mat, Double Sided Tape, Magic Tape, 3D foam, Adhesive Pearl (black)

Here is how I made it! Firstly I painted the Bird and its wing in brown acrylic Paint and the large frame in red acrylic paint and set aside to dry. Print out the Holly Swirl Paper from the CD and cut in half, attach half to the front of the card blank using double sided tape and half to the inside of the card blank.

When the frame is dry line it up in the centre of the front of the card and mark a place underneath the top centre where you can make your hole for your robin to hang from, pierce the card with a piercing tool (making sure to go only through the front side of the card)

When the robin is dry, make a hole in the top of him with a piercing tool and thread through some gold thread. Thread the robin through the hole in the card and line up the robin so he is in the centre of the card, secure to the inside of the card with magic tape and stick the frame to the front of the card hiding the hole and holding the thread in place. Paint the tummy of the robin red and attach his wing (it doesn’t matter if you get paint on the middle part of the card as we are going to cut this out when he’s dry!) attach an adhesive pearl for an eye.

When the robin is completely dry, lay the card flat onto a cutting mat (with the bottom of the card out from underneath) flip the robin over the top of the frame so he is out of the way and use a craft knife to cut the centre of the card out using the frame as a guide – be very careful not to cut the thread holding the robin in place.

Finally, add some stickles to the Robins tummy to make him sparkle! Print out the greeting from the CD and attach using 3D foam to the bottom corner. When you stand the card up the robin will bob around as if he’s flying!

Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Two Turtle Doves…

December 21st, 2011 | By admin in Altered Art, Birds, Hearts | 2 Comments »

This season I spent a lot of time making ornaments with the kids. When I was trying to think of what to do with Basically Bare products, I knew right away when I saw the birds that they were going to become my 2 Turtle Doves, like in the song.

I thought the birds were perfect in their natural white, so I didn’t alter them at all, instead we just added googly eyes (the kids LOVE these).

I wrapped a dollar store wreath with tulle and jute. Then I covered a Basically Bare heart with Core’dinations Cardstock, did a little inking and adhered. At first I was going to put Christmas greenery behind the birds, but green on green didn’t seem to pop. Instead I put some Fall coloured stems behind and I was much happier with the outcome. Then it was fun to layer the birds on the wreath.

Here’s some more views:

Hope everyone has a super awesome Holiday season full of love. Enjoy your time with family & friends, and I hope you get a few minutes to create art!

Take Care,

Leica Forrest
