Holidays are creeping up on us…

October 26th, 2011 | By Stayce in Uncategorized | 2 Comments »

Gosh what a scary thought!  Halloween is a few days away, Thanksgiving around the corner and BAM! Christmas is here.  I can’t figure out where this year went. The more i teach, the faster the year goes. Not sure if that is good or bad.

Anyway…my point was that i love the holiday season. Well it was supposed to be my point but i got sidetracked. lol  I like to create seasonal albums. They make me feel so much more in the spirit. I usually do a Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Somehow this year I didn’t manage to do the Thanksgiving but i did do the others.  I shared my Spooky book with you and now i’m here to share my Christmas book with you.  I created it with the Simply Shapely album. These albums are amazing. They have several mediums on which Tattered Angels products work so well.

The gorgeous papers are from Authentique! LOVE them.

Have a wonderful Halloween!

Playtime

October 24th, 2011 | By JamieP in Hearts, Page Layouts | 2 Comments »

I fell in love with these pics of the munchkin the minute I saw them.  She was lost in her own little world playing with the blocks.  So of course I had to scrap them right away.

I’ve been on a clean and simple kick for a bit and this layout is no exception.  I used a scrap piece of cardstock to mask the area in the top left hand corner and then used a mister for the ink splatter in the lower right hand corner.  For embellishment, I layered strips of tissue tape and film strip ribbon, added a piece of pom-pom ribbon, and some chipboard letters.

The finishing piece was a Basically Bare acrylic heart inked with two colors of StazOn ink.  I now have a secret weapon in my arsenal that allows me to layer StazOn colors without them mixing or bleeding together, a fairly new product called GlazOne.  Simple apply the first color of StazOn to the acrylic heart and allow to dry for a few seconds, apply a thin layer of GlazOn and allow to dry, then apply the second color of StazOn right on top.  No mixing of colors so you can now clearly see both colors of ink on the acrylic piece!

It’s all about the candy!

October 24th, 2011 | By admin in Altered Art, Pennants | 2 Comments »

What’s the best part about Halloween? DUH! It’s gotta be the candy! So what better craft could I make than a candy holder? This project is super-easy and would be great for a Halloween party or a candy “dish” at work. It’s also very inexpensive; it’s made from just one sheet of paper!

To make the basket, I took a piece of 12″X12″ Halloween-themed paper. Using a scoring board, I scored lines at 3″ and 9″. I then turned the paper 90 degrees and scored it again at the 3″ and 9″ marks. This will leave you with visible “squares” on your paper which will be your fold lines. Then I scored each corner square at a 45 degree angle; these will fold inward to make the corners of the box. Once folded and with the corners adhered, you will have a cute little 6″X6″X3″ basket!

Now I know what you are thinking? “Basically Bare doesn’t make candy corn!” True, but when you use some of the wonderful felt pennants and do a little creative cutting, you can make your own! I cut the triangle pennant to make the top of the candy corn. I then glued it to the round-bottom pennant using Beacon’s 3-in-1 glue. Finally, I inked the felt with Technique Tuesday orange and yellow inks.

To finish the basket, I added some Halloween stickers that I matted on orange cardstock. To give even more dimension, I used pop-dots to raise the candy corn and the stickers.

I hope you enjoyed my project… now go out there and get lots of candy!

My Lil’ Punkin

October 23rd, 2011 | By admin in Banners, Page Layouts, Pennants | 1 Comment »

When Halloween rolled around last year, my little one was still in the hospital. However, a friend of mine passed along a little Halloween hat that her preemie twins had used. Instead of dressing him up in a full-blown costume, he got to wear a pumpkin hat. And that was the inspiration for my pumpkin created with various Basically Embellies.

On top of a pumpkin I cut freehand out of orange patterned paper, I used the scalloped triangular chipboard pennants painted with black to create the eyes and nose. The stem was created out of a canvas pennant, which was sprayed with Glimmer Mist. The mouth is a chipboard banner covered with black paint.

One more banner, canvas this time, was sprayed with two shades of Glimmer Mist and layered with black sticker letters to spell “Punkin.”

A few other Halloween stickers were placed, and the layout was done! It took me almost a year to do something with this photo, but now I have a memory of my son’s first Halloween.

Hope you have a Happy Halloween!

Celestial pumpkins, oh me, oh my!

October 22nd, 2011 | By Rebecca in Uncategorized | 1 Comment »

If you’ve been following the blog this month you might remember that I’ve dedicated my October posts to showing unique ways you can decorate pumpkins using Basically Bare products. I’ve shown how to use Bare Basics Buttons  and Bare Basics Wings. So what’s on the menu for today’s post?  I turned to one of my favorites, the new Bare Basics Celestial Shapes.

A little silver paint and shiny coarse glitter on a moon and a few stars are perfect for Halloween. I attached them to a paper bag pumpkin I made, which are easy to do. Just paint a paper lunchbag the color of your choice, I used black paint. When dry, stuff it with newspaper and fold the top of the bag down onto itself. Adhere with tacky glue. With a knife, cut a slit in the top and press a stick down into the bag. Finish off with hemp cord, leaves, and Bare Basics Celestial Shapes!

A little Graphic 45 Mini Album

October 21st, 2011 | By admin in Uncategorized | 2 Comments »

I had so much fun starting out with this adorable little mixed media album. I love having the option of different types of pages. My absolute FAVOURITE part of this album is the envelope pages. How PERFECT for when I can gather memorabilia such as ticket stubs, receipts, coins, or a great place to keep notes I took. I love that in between the envelope pages are perfect ones for putting photos on. In the following photos you will be able to see that I enjoy leaving some of the black envelope edges showing, and sometimes I like to cover the entire page.
Piano g45 cover

The best part that I enjoyed when I was creating my mini album was that this album has so many different medias that allow me more flexibility in my album. I liked the strength of the pages, knowing it isn’t made of flimsy material. I love when I can load up my albums and know they won’t bend and droop. The main purpose I wanted out of this particular Basically Bare album was durability, multiple options and a perfect coffee sized album.

Ironically, I was able to find an old cell phone box that could hold this album PERFECTLY!

I liked putting some Ranger Enamel liquid on the black envelope part, it offered a little dimension. The crystal buttons seemed to also enhance the envelope closure. I tried something new on all the envelopes.

Some pages I just covered in prep for when I do have photos to further decorate the pages with.

I used Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L adhesive to adhere the entire thing down. Please go there to see more pages to this album if you would like.

Humpty Dumpty Sat On A Wall

October 20th, 2011 | By admin in Altered Art | 1 Comment »

But Humpty Dumpty didn’t have a great fall…cause I caught him just in time!  LOL!  Jan here and  I bought this wooden box on clearance at Hobby Lobby for $1.20!  I painted it with Gray paint and the used Molding Paste to hold the bricks in place.  I gave it a misting with Sugar Maple Glimmer Mist.  The words on the front were printed on the computer and then glued to the front of the bricks.  I love the Climbing  Ivy Set (#Es007VR)  by Basically Bare and gave that a misting with Olive Vine and then sewed through the center of the leaves.  Bricks are misted with Brick and Sugar Maple Glimmer Mist.

What else? Albums of course!

I know that I always talk about the albums. I love them! What can I say?

So….here are a few pages from the Simply Shapely Halloween album.

i love the corrugated pages because you can expose some of the corrugation and add in all the beautiful color of glimmer mist and glimmer glam.

Another favorite of mine is the canvas pages. The canvas takes to Tattered Angels glimmer mist and Glimmer Glam amazingly.

I did a screen on one side and reversed it for the opposite side.

Basically Bare and Tattered Angels What a fantastic combination!!!

Thanks for looking!!!

Live with Heart

October 18th, 2011 | By admin in Hearts | 5 Comments »

Canvas is quickly becoming one of my favorite things to work with. It takes paint, Glimmer Mist and ink so well and gives any project that texture to make it pop.

Hi everyone, Erika Taylor here today to share with you an album I created using the Basically Bare Hearts #2 set (full of canvas and felt goodness). The entire album is misted with Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists and Chalkboard Mists and the Heart is painted with the Pewter Glimmer Glam. I did 4 coats on it to really add texture and I hope you adore the project.

Here is a close up for you where you can see the Heart on the right side. The glossy effect is fantastic!!!

Grab a few of the canvas pieces from Basically Bare and experiment. I’d love to see your creations. Well that is all for me today, until next time

Happy Fall

October 17th, 2011 | By JamieP in Cards | 2 Comments »

It’s finally starting to feel a bit like fall here in the south, so I figured a fall inspired card was in order.

I took a piece of Tim Holtz patterned paper and inked up the edges really well.  Next I tore a strip of Core’dinations cardstock and crumpled it into a ball.  Once I was sure it was wrinkled, I flattened out the paper and then inked it up.  The ink will highlight the wrinkles and add a bit of depth to the card.

Next I added a couple of Basically Bare gears, one was plain chipboard and the other was corrugated.  The largest, I inked with a bright orange ink from Clearsnap and then randomly sprinkled bits of embossing powder.  I purposely overheated the embossing powder to a point where it bubbled just a add another bit of texture.  Just be careful not to burn the chipboard.  Next I inked the corrugated gear with Smooch Spritz, which gave it a nice metallic finish.  Lastly I stamped and colored a pumpkin and added it on top of the gears.
