Valentine Cards with hearts and wings

February 9th, 2013 | By Veronica in Cards, Cupcakes, Dress Forms, Hearts, Oh So Mini, Uncategorized | No Comments »

Hi, Veronica here to share some romantic sweetness.  Are you making plans with your Valentine?  Why not start by making a Valentine Card from the heart (and wings).  Plus a little cupcake sweetness thrown in.

I  am excited to share with you today two Valentine Cards and One Sweet Door Hanger to help you decorate for Valentine’s Day.

First I used the Basically Bare chipboard Hearts, and to the lovely heart I added some angel wings.

In the heart package you also get FELT hearts!

On my second Valentine’s Card I decided to use (one of my absolute favorites) small dress form.  In the dress form package you get different sizes and also cardboard and chipboard

To make my dress form beautiful and blingy I added Linen sorbet from Art Anthology

For my last project I made a Valentine’s Day door hanger.  It is pure sweetness.

For this piece I used the Rounded Oh So Mini page, the felt medium size fanciful frame, cupcake and felt wings

I had alot of fun decorating my “cupcake” I used lots of the layers, linen sorbet and bling.

Hope you enjoyed my Valentine goodies, happy scrapping …

Thanks Turkey!

November 27th, 2012 | By Marilyn in Altered Art, Cupcakes, Happy Little Hosues, Uncategorized | 3 Comments »

Good morning, Marilyn here with a new creation especially for you.  When I think of Thanksgiving, I think of turkey, pies, and home.  So, with that in mind, I created the following 4×6.

I started with a piece of mechanical board (a fave of mine) and covered it with alternating strips of Bella Blvd’s Homey and Trees (backside) paper.  I then edged the top and bottom using Bella Blvd’s designer paper tape.  It gives a nice finished edge to the piece.

Then I made a pie.  I started with a Basically Bare Stack-a-Bellies cupcake with a felt top.  I trimmed up the bottom piece just a bit on the top of the sides and colored it with Espresso acrylic paint.  Then using a Snow Cap paint dabber, I pounced the paint on the white felt top.  I wanted the slightly uneven coverage this gave.  Finally, I carefully painted on two slits.   Moving the top further down on the bottom turned the cupcake into a pie!

To make my banner, I used the some of the doors from Basically Bare’s Happy Little Houses set.  I ran a Snow Cap paint dabber across the chipboard, going for a streaked appearance to imitate a painted wood board.  I then used the “THANKS” sticker from Bella Blvd’s Thankful sticker sheet.

Hope you enjoy my project for today!  Until later………………Smiles~

An Everyday Banner

September 1st, 2012 | By Katrina in Altered Art, Blossoms and Leaves, Cupcakes, Mini Albums & Journals | 4 Comments »

It’s Katrina here again!  Some of my favorite things to make are banners.  Sometime I take a brand new mini album and make one.  Or other times, I take left over pieces from minis that I have made and piece them together into a banner of their own.  Just because you have a “mini album” doesn’t mean you have to use it that way.  Change it up and make it your own.

I took one of the Oh So Mini Mix and Match albums and just used the same shape for all my panels.  For this banner, I wanted my pictures to be the main focus of my project and I felt that different shapes would distract from that.  I love that you can mix or match these to suit whatever project you are doing!

Using a ton of Basically Bare goodies and the Echo Park Everday Eclectic collection, this banner came together quickly.  I love using collection kits for projects like this, because everything already matches and you can get busy working.  I did add a few things like a tag, ribbon, inks, and flair buttons that weren’t in the kit.  Let’s take a look at the individual pieces.

The inspiration for Sheldon’s piece came from that cloud background that I covered the chipboard album piece with.  I started by inking the clouds from the Celestial set with pink and blue Prima chalk ink on the felt clouds.  The blue cloud is actually the top to a cupcake from the Cupcakes set, but I thought it would double just fine as a cloud.  I added some faux stitching with my Zig Millennium pen around one of the white clouds.  I decided I wanted to add a little more, so I took my Zig Painty FX Marker in white and filled the clouds in .  I tucked a sun flair button behind one of the clouds.

Jetson’s panel is the canvas one and I knew I wanted to use my Studio Calico hexagon misting mask to create a pattern on my canvas.  I alternately misted blue and pink and moved the mask, lining it up with the row before.  I misted about three times total.  One of the frames from the Summer CHA release of Fanciful Frames II fit my picture just about perfectly.  I covered the chipboard with a hexagon pattern shaped paper, sanded and then inked my edges.  I covered a chipboard blossom from the Blossom and Leaves set with some camera pattern paper.  I took one of the canvas leaves and misted with Mr. Huey’s in a green color.  I loved the way it curled and intentionally left it that way.  I then popped my flair button right on top of it and adhered the cluster to the corner of my frame.  I added jute twine and some wording and called this one done.

The next piece was Higgins’ and I decided to use the acrylic page for him.  I embossed the page in my Cuttlebug by running it thru a couple of times.  I didn’t worry about the top strip where the ribbon is, I just wanted the bulk of the page to be embossed.  I thought the large gear from the Gears #1 set would look fun with the embossed background that I had chosen.  I made a template from cardstock of the gear and then divided it into sections.  I cut each section and then traced them onto pattern paper.  I trimmed them out and then glued them down with some matte medium gel.  I did sand the edges, but didn’t not ink these.  I covered a manila tag with some pattern paper added some twine, added a flair button and sticker to the photo and Higgins’ page was done.

Ella was the last page and I wanted her’s to have a girly feel to it.  I covered the cardboard piece of the album with the doily pattern paper.  I cut a border sticker and added it to the edge of the piece to add a little color.  Then I misted two doilies with orange and pink Mr. Huey’s mists.  The orange was a little strong, so I misted over it with the Calico Cream color to tone it down some.  That lower right hand corner needed another doily, so I just used a doily sticker and popped it up with some dimensional adhesive.  It still needed a little pop, so a small bare chipboard button from the Buttons set, a flair button and a camera sticker completed the corner.  I love the look of the bare chipboard with this particular pattern paper in the collection kit.

So, my tips for creating a banner:  Get some great Basically Bare goodies as your base and to embellish with. Get a great collection kit (and if they have a 6 x 6 mini pad grab it also).  Decide on your theme or non-theme and if you want pictures or maybe just make a word with a letter on each banner piece.  I gave my banner a flow with the use of the jute twine and flair buttons on each panel, so decide what you want your trick for each piece to be.  Start creating!

Thanks for coming by today!

Double The Fun

June 3rd, 2012 | By JamieP in Cupcakes, Page Layouts | 6 Comments »

Jamie back with you today a fun, whimsical layout!  I was sorting through some older pictures and came across a stack from my twin niece’s first birthday.

I had made individual cupcake cakes for them, plus one for the rest of us to eat.  So of course I thought of using the cupcake embellies on the layout!

I started by heat embossing the base piece with Distress Embossing powder so that it resembles a vanilla cupcake. Since the Distress Embossing powders are very textural, it actually looks like a real cupcake IRL.

Then I used Zig Painty FX paint pens in Pink, Lt Blue, and Yellow to color the felt frosting pieces.  Lastly, I used a  Painty FX paint pen in White to color the cupcake liner piece.  Once the paint was dry, I drew in lines to make is resemble a cupcake liner and then covered it Stickles for a bit of glimmer.

To make it a bit more festive, I cut strips of curling ribbon and adhered it under the cupcakes.

And lastly, I used a chipboard arrow which was painted with a Painty FX pen in Yellow.

Celebrate Today!

June 1st, 2012 | By admin in Altered Art, Cupcakes, Uncategorized | 8 Comments »

Hi everyone!  Erin here again.

I believe everyday should be celebrated!  Here’s a simple framed piece of wall decor that I made to go along with that theme.

I used some pretty background papers and sewed them together with my sewing machine.  Then I cut out the “celebrate today” text twice using my Silhouette Cameo…once on brown cardstock and once on black cardstock.  When I glued to two layers together I let the black peek out a tiny bit behind the brown to give it a bit of a shadow.

And then I was ready to make the cupcake using the Basically Bare Stack-A-Bellies Cupcakes.  I love that the pack had piece that are felt, chipboard, and cardboard…I used the felt frosting, the cardboard cake, and the chipboard wrapper.  They looked so cute all stacked up that I really didn’t have to do too much to them.  I just “wallpapered” the chipboard wrapper and added a few embellishments.

I love that they are so dimensional when stacked up!!  It looks so cool,  especially when I added the glass back into the frame.  (I removed the glass from the frame to take photos with out a glare.)

And here is the final piece!

Have an awesome day!!

Sarah’s Lovely Cards

May 31st, 2012 | By admin in By Product, By Project Type, Cards, Cupcakes | 9 Comments »

Hey there! Sarah reporting here with a dynamic duo of cards created with the Nikki Sivils Scrapbooker collection called “Exit Here.” This is a bright, fun, and happy line of papers! It made me think of one thing- SUMMER!!!! Woohoo! You can defenitely tell I have summer on the brain by my first card, which includes an amazingly delicious looking summertime treat…

And to be honest with you, I can’t really call it a summertime treat bcuz i eat ice cream year round soooo…anyhoo, I created this ice cream cone by stacking a few of the Basically Bare Cupcake frostings on top of one another. The middle scoop is a felt piece and the other two scoops are canvas pieces that I covered with pink craft paint.  The cone is just some cardstock I cut and embossed, and the cherry on top is a Basically Bare button! I used my Zig Painty FX marker in red that Kurtake provided, and topped that off with some red Stickles. I did the same technique to my little Basically Bare sunshine! This card makes me happy, it’s got 2 of my favorite things on it! ;) Ice Cream & Sunshine yesssss!

For my next trick I’d like to show you a card with another fave of mine, flowers! I wanted to have a flower in a pot, annnd I still had the bottom portion of my Basically Bare cupcake left sooooo,

It just happened to work out perfectly ;) I ripped off a little of the front cardboard layer to grunge it up a little.

Juiced it up a little with some red bakers twine (which Im addicted to) and a Nikki Sivils tag, it actually looks like a real flower pot! lol The posy is a Basically Bare flower chipboard embellie that I covered with some bright & cheerful Nikki Sivils patterned paper.

Thank you to Nikki Sivils and Kurtake for generously donating your beautiful products! Have a creative day everyone!

Love, Sarah

A Perfect Pairing: Nikki Sivils & Basically Bare!

May 31st, 2012 | By admin in Altered Art, Cupcakes, Hearts | 9 Comments »

Jen Matott here to share a perfect pairing!  We got the chance to work with one of Nikki Sivils new lines.  I was honored to be on Nikki Sivils inaugural design team for several years and loved every minute of it!  So, when I found out we were using her new designs, I was thrilled!!!  I got to use “Messages” for my swap line.  I know I wanted to do something with notes or communication. I have some handmade cards floating around in the bottom of my drawer in my art room… I needed a place to house them ready to use for the perfect occasion!  So, I repurposed a pasta box into a card holder.

I drew an edge on the wide side and cut.  Once I had that shape, I used it to trace on the reverse side to ensure the same line.

When all sides were cut, I traced the box edges onto the papers and cut them out to cover the box.  I used my ATG gun to adhere onto the cardboard.

Here’s the finished project!  I used Nikki’s letter stickers for the word “Cards”.

Here I used a chipboard heart (covered with the herringbone print paper) and a canvas heart layered on top with a punched cut up from the papers.

The dividers have embellishments like a cupcake for BIRTHDAY Card catagory.  I colored the canvas using the Zig Fabric markers and peeled the top layer off the cardboard bottom to make it look more like the cupcake holder.

Here’s the divider for Baby and Shower cards. I used the acrylic bottle with the chipboard topped with papers.  The “milk” is a white Zig Paint Pen on the reverse side of the acrylic.

Here’s another look!  I have all my handmade cards organized now and can’t wait to add to it and be able to find what I need quick!

So, not only did I upcycle a recyclable box into a useful and cute item, but I got to use Nikki Sivils papers to make a fun project!  This line was perfect and the Basically Bare shapes work beautifully!

Cupcake Gift Bag

December 2nd, 2011 | By admin in Cupcakes, Uncategorized | 1 Comment »

Today I am showing you a cute little Gift Bag I made with the cupcake shapes. Love it!

I started out with the chipboard cupcake liner shape. Then I scored lines in it to mimic the liners. I ran brown ink over the shape and then when I made the scores I ran ink again over just the scores to give it a little depth.

It was so quick and easy to assemble after that. I knew I just wanted the fluffy icing top, so I didn’t alter that at all. I just put on stickers to look like sprinkles.

Thanks for looking.

What Do Cupcake Shapes and Ornaments Shapes Have In Common?

November 3rd, 2011 | By admin in Cupcakes, Mini Albums & Journals | 2 Comments »

Well, they make a beautiful Hot Air Balloon for Dear Ole Santa!  Jan here and I had some  of the Stack-a-Bellies Cupcakes (#SB001VR) and Stack-a-Bellies Holiday Ornaments (#SB007VR) and decided to get creative and make a ride for our favorite friend dressed in red!  It’s a perfect fit on the Basically Bare Album!  The papers are Graphic 45 and the metal trim and lace doily  are antique shoppe finds.  I misted the album front with Black Magic Glimmer Mist.

Pink, Orange & Green Journals

August 23rd, 2011 | By admin in Altered Art, Blossoms and Leaves, By Product, Cupcakes, Hearts | 4 Comments »

Happy Tuesday!

To help brighten up your week – or maybe it’s just because I’m actually enjoying some sunshine this week! – I had a little bit of fun with pink, orange, and green on a few stationery products.

I used the Bare Basics Hearts on a journal – chipboard, corrugated board, and white felt. I used acrylic paint on all the hearts.  Then I decorated them with a little bling.

(Beware of the acrylic paint on the felt – it takes a LONG time to dry!)

On another journal, I used the Bare Basics Pennants and Stack-a-Bellies Cupcakes.

My cupcake has a patterned paper-covered chipboard bottom. To decorate the frosting, I used a corrugated piece (flipped to the white side) and a few bling butterflies. The pennants were painted with acrylic paint and flipped on their sides to use as tabs for my journal.

Here’s a close-up of the cupcake:

Hope you have a great rest of the week!  Till next time…
