A December Monthly with Bella Blvd.

November 28th, 2012 | By Katrina in Banners, Birds, Dress Forms, Mini Albums & Journals, Pennants, Sew Vintage, Uncategorized | 7 Comments »

Katrina here and I am so excited for the swap with Bella Blvd. today!  At first, I thought I would definitely do a layout with all that fun goodies that we received.  BUT, then I started going thru my Basically Bare stash and decided that I would do a December Monthly.  I know most people are talking about December Dailies, but I know there is no way that I would keep up with a daily album.  (Hey, at least I know my weakness!)  So, I decided to make a fun little mini out of the Tiny Tabs album and just insert a few pictures of things here and there.

I used the Christmas Wishes collection from Bella Blvd.  I love the color combos and knew that it would make a fun little mini album.  If you want to see the pages bigger, just click on the collage pictures!

All of these pictures are in order of the book, except for the first two which are the front and back pages.  This first collage includes an acrylic button from the Buttons set, a tree from the Happy Little Trees set, and an acrylic star with some silver alcohol ink over it from the Celestial Shapes set .

These pages include a spool from the Sew Vintage set and an arrow from the Arrows set.  I ran the first acrylic page thru my Cuttlebug to emboss it and then put a thin layer of Art Anthology paint in frost over it.   I then ran the second acrylic page thru with a different embossing folder, used some Clover alcohol ink on it and then mixed in some of the Art Anthology paint over it.

This collage uses a felt tree top from the Happy Little Trees set for the snow that the cute little reindeer is standing on.  A chipboard bird and felt wing from the Birds set.  Santa is made from three of the Large Pennants.  I painted a rounded canvas pennant and a V-shaped canvas pennant in Chili Powder red (Ranger/Jenni Bowlin), leaving the points of the V so that I could paint them with black paint.  I then glued the round pennant on top of the V-shaped one and ran ribbon around to make a belt.  I cut the scallop Large Pennant and used small pieces to make “fur” on the boots were the red and black paint meet.  The acrylic page here I just left plain and decorated it front and back, but still leaving area to see thru.

In this last collage, I used the two buttons from the Buttons set to make ornaments to place on the page.  I did emboss this acrylic page, but just left it clear.  I liked the way it looked.  I loved the penguins in the paper collection from Bella Blvd. and knew I wanted to do something fun with them.  This one, I made a snow globe for him to fit in.  I used the “top” from the Up, Up and Away set as my globe.  I cut the rounded bottom part from a dress form in the Dress Form set to make the base of my globe.

Thanks for stopping by and be sure to check out all our designers postings this week for our swap with Bella Blvd.  And thank you to Bella Blvd. for the fun products to work with!

Hugs,

Katrina Hunt

A Banner”ful” Layout along with a Hi card

June 8th, 2012 | By Katrina in Cards, Page Layouts, Pennants, Sew Vintage | 15 Comments »

Hey everyone!  It’s Katrina here with a layout and card to share with you for the Momenta swap we are doing this week.  I was so happy that I got to work with the Kaleidoscope collection from Momenta.  If you like bright colors like I do, well it is a great collection to work with.  The layout I created is based off of a sketch from Sketch Support, but I felt it was perfect for the papers and what I wanted to do.  And yes, the new puppy is making an appearance again here on the Basically Bare blog!

I wanted to create a pennant banner that went all the way across the page at the top, with somewhat of a lift in the middle.  The banner is actually where I started my layout and then I worked down from there.  I used the equivelent of two packs of the small Pennant Banners because I wanted to cover all of them with the yummy pattern paper.  You could easily use one package and just replace some of the pieces with the canvas and felt pennants and it would be just as cute!  I did take two of the rounded end pennants and cut them down.  I then layered the smaller rounded pennant on top of the larger one. After I did that, I decided that I wanted to layer the top part that I had cut off on top of the pointed pennant as well.  For all pieces, I covered with pattern paper, trimmed with an Xacto knife and then sanded the edges smooth.  I then either inked with my Prima chalk inks OR I used my Zig Painty Marker to accent the edges.

As you can see here, some of the pieces were also accented with the button embellishments that are in the Kaleidoscope collection.  I love bows, so I added three white bows atop the rounded pennant pieces.  I felt those gave just enough of a shabby, yet fun and funky look to the banner that was just enough.  You can also see the middle slope to the banner. I laid out ALL my pieces, decided on placement and then after covering and embellishing them, laid them right back where I had put them, until I glued everything down completely!

I wanted to use some of the clear embellishments that Momenta had sent also, so I decided to create a base for one of them.  I covered part of a Fanciful Frame with pattern paper, trimmed and sanded the edges down.  Then I took my Zig Embossing Pen  (THESE are the best!  You can get into small spaces and only emboss a little area!) and went over some of the flowers in the pattern paper.  I then sprinkled some matching WOW Embossing powder on them and heat set.  I ran the edges of the frame thru an embossing pad and then used the same powder to do those.  This gave a little more detail to the pattern paper, yet didn’t overwhelm the clear embellishment.

And I couldn’t let the fun stop there, I decided I had to do a card with these fun papers.  Someone will get a great pick-me-up from the bright colors!  In case you are wondering, this card is a 6 x 6 inch, so it is on the larger side and would probably be more suitable to give in person, or to include inside a package you were mailing.

I used the Basically Bare Sew Vintage set for this card.  I wanted to use the scissors in the set also, but I didn’t have enough room on my card!  I knew that white flowered paper would look quite fun on the sewing machine, so I went to town on it.  I didn’t really want to embellish too much, because I wanted the paper and the shape of the machine to stand out.  I did sand and ink my edges, using Prima chalk ink.  Once done, that pink flower clear embellishment fit perfectly on the top of the machine.

After playing with the ribbon on the layout, I knew I wanted it wrapped around the spool.  I covered the spool with pattern paper and then ink with Prima chalk ink, just like I did the sewing machine….simple and easy.  I then took a length of ribbon and wrapped it around the spool a few times.  Make sure your inked edges are dry, so it doesn’t stain your ribbon…unless you like that look!  I brought the two ends to the front of the spool and just tied a bow.  I also used another little chipboard flower piece that is from the paper collection to the center of my bow.  Added the sentiment and now I have a card to brighten someone’s day!

I want to thank Momenta for letting us play this week!  This collection is so fun and it made some unique Basically Bare embellishments also!  I hope you enjoyed my projects and be sure to check out everyone else’s projects also!

A Trip Down Memory Lane

May 6th, 2012 | By JamieP in Page Layouts, Pennants, Sew Vintage | 5 Comments »

Are you ready for another project featuring Basically Bare and Paper Loft?  Jamie here with a layout that should fit the bill.

I’ve been trying to sort through my Grandmother’s old pictures and recently came across the two I used on this layout.  And of course, the paper and cardstock were perfect for these pictures.  I did a lot of distressing on the paper.

Once I had all the papers layered and distressed, it was time to start layering on the embellishments.  The first one I used was a Fleur De Lis, which I painted with a white Zig Painty FX Pen.

Then I added a pair of chipboard scissors from the Sew Vintage Set.  I fully embossed both pieces with gold embossing powder.  Then I added a second layer of embossing powder in green to only the handles to add a bit of contrast.  I love how the embellies hold up to all the ink, powders, and paints I throw at them!

And the last pieces I added were the small canvas pennants.  I just lightly misted them with Glimmer Mist, then added a bit of faux stitching across the bottom with a Zig Fabricolor pen.

Basically Bare items used:

*Basically Embellies acrylic Fleur De Lis

*Basically Embellies Sew Vintage Set chipboard pennants

*Basically Embellies small canvas pennants

Paper Loft supplies used:

*Depression Glass Cardstock

*Journal, Estate, and Accounts patterned paper from the For The Record Collection

*Large Name Plates from the For The Record Collection

*Words and Titles from the For The Record Collection

Tattered Angels supplies used:

*Chalkboard Glimmer Mist – French Vanilla

Kuretake supplies used:

*Zig Painty FX – White

*Zig Millenium – Pure Black

*Zig Fabricolor – Light Green

Decorate some Easter Candy Tubes

April 5th, 2012 | By Katrina in Altered Art, Blossoms and Leaves, Sew Vintage | 5 Comments »

It’s Katrina again!  I know right, I just can’t stay away!  I am back with a fun idea for an Easter goodie to give your kids, grandkids, nieces or nephews!  Candy tubes all decorated with Basically Bare, of course!!  And I have ideas for both the boys and the girls also!

When I started, I started with the boy tube first.  The Gears #1 set contains the chipboard and cardboard gears.  I started with those by covering the cardboard with paper and then using my Zig Painty Marker on the other one.  I did a few coats on it, just to get some good converage.  The blue color went perfect with the blue in my papers.  I then added a button from the Buttons set and covered it with paper also.  I thought about making it an actual button, by poking my holes and threading it, but decided just to leave it…it looks kind of like a knob on the gear.  I also used an arrow from the Arrows set.  I left it bare and just traced around the outline with my Zig Memory Marker.

I took my Cropadile and  punched a hole thru the largest gear and ran some jute twine thru the hole.  Then I wrapped it around the tube a few times and then tied a knot to hold it in place.

Now, the girls tube I wanted to start with the canvas leaves from the Blossoms and Leaves set.  I knew I wanted to sew on them and was happy that I had green thread on hand!  Now, sewing is quite the challenge for me on big pieces, so these tiny leaves I was a little worried.  Just go slow and it will work out fine.  I wanted my stitching to look rough and not perfect, I think I achieved that look!  hee hee!

I then took my Zig Fabric Marker and just colored in lightly, leaving the edges the natural color of the canvas for a little variation.  To continue the stitched theme, I just took my black Zig Memory Marker and went along the outside of the felt blossom and then added a button in the middle.

I covered the larger chipboard blossom with pattern paper, ran some pearlized ink around the outside edges.  I then took the chipboard middle part of the scissors from the Sew Vintage set and covered it with the same pearlized ink.  Then I took my white Zig Painty Marker and combined the two while it was still damp.  That is why there is some texture on that center.  I popped it up with some dimensional adhesive when I attached it to the center.  Using my Cropadile again, I punched a hole and ran twine thru it and around the tube.  My bow was tied separately, as I am picky about how they look!

These really did not take long, once I figured out which papers I wanted to use!  And those jellybeans are going to be gone BEFORE Easter!  By the way, if you like SweetTarts, you need to try the SweetTart jellybeans…addicting!!!

Have a wonderful day!!

Nuggets Of Wisdom Album Part 2

March 11th, 2012 | By JamieP in Birds, Blossoms and Leaves, Dress Forms, Funky Findings Album, Hearts, Mini Albums & Journals, Sew Vintage | 5 Comments »

Jamie here with you again for the second half of a fun project using the Funky Findings Album.

I’ve used another chipboard piece from the Sew Vintage set and heat embossed it with several colors of powder to give it an antiqued look.

Next, I’ve painted several hearts and then layered then together.

Next, I’ve used several pieces from the Up, Up, and Away Set, all of which were heat embossed with WOW powders.  Did you know you could heat emboss on canvas?  You absolutely can.  The same as with embossing on felt, you just have to be very careful not to burn the fabric.

The last page was created by using a Crafter’s Workshop template, applying Perfect Medium over the template, then applying Perfect Pearls.  This page such a wonderful shine and shimmer!  I’ve used felt, chipboard, and canvas pennants on the right edge of the page.  The chipboard piece has been colored with Tattered Angels Glimmer Glam.  The canvas pieces have been heat embossed and the felt pieces have been covered with clear glitter.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this album, along with all the other projects I’ve shared over the past several months.  It’s with a very heavy heart that I must say goodbye and that this will be my last Design Team post.

Nuggets Of Wisdom Album Part 1

Jamie here with you once again and today I’m showing off the Funky Findings Album. When I sat down to work on this album, I was in a fun, lighthearted mood.  That being said, this album clearly shows off the mood I was in.

I used the acrylic page as the front album cover.  It was colored entirely with alcohol inks and then, using a Crafter’s Workshop template, I added highlights to the page with Liquitex Glass Bead Gel Medium and StazOn Ink.

I highlighted the next page with lots of clear embellishments.  The gear was inked with two colors of alcohol inks.

On the next page, I used WOW embossing powder around the edges of a dress form and on the stand.

i

Did you know you could heat emboss on felt?  Yes, you can!! Just be very careful not to burn the felt, because it will scorch very quickly.  Both of the felt flowers were heat embossed.  The smallest chipboard flower was spritzed with Tattered Angels spray and the little bird was colored with alcohol ink.

On the next two pages, I’ve used the Sew Vintage chipboard embellishments.  Te spool as colored with Tattered Angels mist then wrapped with cording from Canvas Corp.

The scissors have been heat embossed with WOW embossing powders.

Join my again tomorrow for the second half of this fun, witty album!

Keeping It Sew Simple

March 7th, 2012 | By admin in Cards, Sew Vintage, Uncategorized | 3 Comments »

Happy Hump Day everyone!!  Over the past few weeks, our very talented design team has shared tons of techniques and different ways to use Basically Bare products.  Today, I’m going to remind you of a very simple way to add color and texture to a few of the chipboard products.

Inking is the simplest way to transform your chipboard.  I used Quick Quotes’ Powder Puff ink in Amaretto to ink the spool from the Sew Vintage Set.  I just swiped the ink pad across the chipboard piece until it was completely covered.

I added a little texture by wrapping floss around the spool.

I snipped the tip off of the chipboard ornament from Stack-a-Bellies Holiday Ornaments set.

I traced the circle onto a piece of craft paper, ran it through my cuttlebug with an embossing folder, adhered it to the chipboard piece, and lightly inked.

I attached the circle to my card base and then attached the spool with foam adhesive.  There you have it a very simple card that looks like it took lots of time to create!

Here’s a close up

Thanks for stopping by the blog today!!

A Beautiful Card From Sarah H

October 16th, 2011 | By Beth in Sew Vintage | 3 Comments »

This week I was very tempted to share another Halloween project, but I don’t want to bore you with my obsession! So instead I will show you the cute card I made using the ‘Sew Vintage’ set of Chipboard pieces.

I had no real plan with this card, I had a scrap of the dress pattern paper left from October Afternoon and then thought I’d try making the sewing machine sparkly using Kuretake black sparkle embossing powder. Then I hinged the scissors with a screw brad, colouring the blades in with a silver metallic pen and would some twine around the cotton reel before attaching everything to the card, I love this mix of colours at the moment, kraft, black and teal with a little bit of sparkle. Also, the great thing about this set is, that the chipboard is sturdy enough to be used in a home décor piece, so I will be using the remaining pieces from the pack to decorate a sewing box I’m repurposing (I’ll share that in a future post!)

Thanks for dropping by to take a look!

Thank you card

September 8th, 2011 | By admin in Cards, Sew Vintage | 4 Comments »

I am so excited to be the newest member of the Basically Bare design team! Therefore, for my first project, I knew I wanted to make a “thank you” card to say thanks to Basically Bare for giving me this opportunity!

I used the chipboard spool from the Sew Vintage embellies pack and added just a hint of brown using ColorBox Chalk Ink in Dark Brown, then added stitching and a Making Memories stick pin.

Continuing with the vintage sewing theme, I used some GCD Studios paper that looks like an old sewing pattern and some Prima Marketing paper with old advertisements. Some Making Memories buttons and Tim Holtz stickers added just the right finishing touches.

And I thank you “sew” much for checking out my first post!

We’re Sew Lucky to Have Tricia!

May 5th, 2011 | By admin in Cards, Sew Vintage | 3 Comments »

Tricia Wilson, Basically Bare design team member, created this cute and classic card using the {Basically Embellies} Sew Vintage embellishment set.  Here’s what she had to say about it…

“The moment I saw the sewing machine shape my heart skipped a beat! I really had a tough time trying to decided how to use it because I had so many fancy plans for this sweet little shape! I finally settled on using it on this card that describes how I am feeling about life right now…Sew lucky.”
