Silly Girl-A Little Messy Fun!

May 19th, 2012 | By Katrina in Banners, Dress Forms, Hearts, Page Layouts, Pennants | 5 Comments »

Are you scared to get a little messy on your layouts?  Katrina here and I am confessing that I am!  I don’t mind a little mist, paint or ink here or there.  In fact I think it is FUN!  But the problem comes when I try to do it myself, I am scared of messing up!  Well, with a little prompting from the rest of the wonderful Bascially Bare DT, I decided that I was going to get a little more “artsy” on my layout for today.  And I am so glad that I did, I love how it turned out and I am slowly getting over my fear of making a mistake and not being able to fix it!

Ok, I am admitting that the paper line that I used (American Crafts/Amy Tangerine Sketchbook) helped with some of the artsy part of my layout, but it gave me a starting point!  I started with a chipboard Dress Form and the Dress Me clothes in canvas.  I painted the dress form with some acrylic paint in an off-white color. While it was drying I then took some Distress Stains in Worn Lipstick and Broken China and used them on my canvas skirt.  The colors turned out too dark and I started to panic a little.  I dried the canvas skirt with a heat gun and then used a thin layer of the same off white paint over the top of the skirt, which muted the colors down.  I then stamped a heart image all over the top part of the Dress Form in a light pink color.  I decided to add a felt heart stamped in light blue as a brooch.  I added a belt of twine, a ruffle of paper that was doodled on with my Zig Millennium pen, a punched out butterfly, and then I made some confetti and added to the middle of the skirt.  I then placed everything on a Fanciful Frame piece that I covered in chipboard and backed with a doily that I had misted with some Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in Viva Pink.

I then wanted to highlight my smaller picture, so I used a Fanciful Frame on it as well.  I backed my picture with a contrasting color, covered my chipboard piece and tied some jute on each end, then placed it over my picture.  I still thought it needed something so I added some of the Pennants-Small to the bottom.  I covered the chipboard ones with paper and then added some doodling around the edges of them.  After that, I then layered the felt pennant pieces behind the chipboard ones to tie everything together.  Layer underneath the frame and violia!

After I had gotten this far, I thought I was done.  BUT, then I saw the cardboard Hearts #1 and knew I had to use them somewhere.  So I cut one in half and covered each half with a different pattern paper.  I put them up in the corner and then layered a canvas Heart #2 on top of the halves.  I doodled around each piece, just a swirly type of design to give me some practice and to tie the pieces in to the rest of the layout.  I then punched a couple more butterflies to embellish just a bit more.

So, I overcame my fear, at least on this layout!  No, I think I will try the “artsy” stuff some more.  It was fun and I had ink on my hands for a couple of days!  I hope you enjoyed my layout AND I hope that I have encouraged you to get a little artsy, even if you are afraid of it!

Basically Bare + Clearsnap = Beautiful

May 17th, 2012 | By admin in Altered Art, Banners, Dress Forms | 15 Comments »

Hello Fans!! DeeDee here, this time with swap partner Clearsnap!! Take the feel of mother’s day and combine it with the feeling of being a still new mama and you sort of come to my piece for today.

It feels very feminine . My form is up on a pedestal and held very high.. regal like.  She’s bold, beautiful and colorful but very strong.

I always find that the saying “If ain’t broke don’t fix it” is seriously appropriate, and I don’t know how you cover your chipboard with paper.. but here’s how I’ve always done mine:

I grabbed my Basically Bare Dress From and the glitz designs paper I wanted to use.. made sure both the chipboard and the paper were “Wrong side” up.. and traced the piece onto the paper. I didn’t mind about being exactly perfect, as long as I was drawing a little bit big instead of small! Then I cut out the paper and rubbed my chipboard down with a nice clear wet glue. Adhere paper and allow to dry! … now here’s the really good part..

I sand the edges with a green washing pad!! They’re rough enough to be similar to sand paper, but aren’t too rough as to tear the paper. My favorite crafty tip!!

Here are some close ups of the project:

I used the Basically Bare Wings in stiff felt, the yellow is a Clearsnap Cat’s Eye ink pad in Sunflower, and the glitter is Clearsnap Fool’s Gold.
The base of my sculpture is from the Basically Bare Gears set, and is piled with wooden spools, baker’s twine, vintage buttons, tulle and a rose made out of Glitz Designs paper.
The apron for my dress from is actually from the Basically Bare Small Pennants embellishment set. It’s covered in Glitz Designs paper with the same method shown above.. look at that sanded edge!!

Thanks so much for stopping by. -DeeDee

Tanisha – Book Bunch

May 8th, 2012 | By admin in Banners, Mini Albums & Journals, Pennants, Uncategorized | 4 Comments »

Hey there it’s Tanisha, a member of the Book Bunch, here with a really fun mini album that I created to house photos of my 2 rambunctious little boys!

I had the pleasure of working with Dude, a really cool collection from The Paper Loft.   This line has my boys written all over it with it’s clever phrases, distressing, and awesome colors!

I used the Simply Shapely Mixed Media Album, which is just perfect for larger photos and for experimenting with different techniques.  I covered the front cover with patterned paper cut just a tad smaller than the album.  I love to leave some of the natural elements showing when working with these types of album as I think it adds character.

I added a couple of Gears from set 2 to the cover.  I dry embossed both gears and then heat embossed the chipboard gear with WOW embossing powder in Metallic Copper, to give it a rustic look.

Whenever I work with cardboard, I just can’t help myself, I MUST peel pack some of the top layer to reveal the beautiful corrugated layer.  It adds so much texture and acts as a mini canvas.  I used dark brown ink here.

I inked a chipboard button, tied it with jute and layered it on the acrylic gear.

So many ideas come to mind when I look at the felt tag.  I chose to slightly alter it by lightly rubbing with ink and adhering Large Pennants that I covered with patterned paper.  I added my sons’ initials to finish off the look.

I altered the color of this felt button by spritzing it with Lime Glimmer Mist.

I have found the using a hot glue gun on the canvas and felt pages are the best way to adhere elements.

This filmstrip is from the Paparazzi Set.  I added color to it by heat embossing with WOW embossing powder in Ebony.  It really adds a nice glossy finish to the piece.

I used gear masks from Tim Holtz, a few Basically Bare gears, and denim glimmer mist to create the background on the canvas page.

I repeated the same technique on the back, but used Lime glimmer mist.

I used copper embossing powders on the gears (Gears Set 1) to give them a rusty look and then adhered to the acrylic page with brads.  I embossed both sides since I attached them to a clear page.  Yes, the gears actually work, making this a fun interactive page.

Here you can see the back of the gear–I fussy cut elements from patterned paper and adhered them over the center to hide the brad prongs.

Thanks so much for taking a peek at my project today!!

Be sure to visit the Paper Loft and see all their great lines!

Lazy Summer on the River

May 4th, 2012 | By Veronica in Banners, Page Layouts, Pennants, Uncategorized | 4 Comments »

Hi, Veronica here, Remember me?  I am part of the Book Bunch, I still can’t believe I am part of such an amazing team.  Today though, I am posting a layout – I know what the heck is going on?  Well every once in a while I step out of my book making ways and venture out to layout land.

In my box of endless goodness that was sent to me by the very funny and wonderful ladies at Basically Bare - I was given this beautiful rich color pack of paper with a camping theme.  It just so happened that my hubby and friends had gone to Peace River (Florida) to camp …  so I had the perfect photo for these papers.  Lucky me!!

Since the colors of my layout have alot of brown, beige, olive and gold; I decided to unsaturate the color of my photo.  Then I went a step further and started to distress it.  What?  Yes, I know I have a huge problem and love affair with my distressing tools ….

The paper I used on this layout (if you haven’t guessed by now) is the Huckelberry Pond  from Paper Loft.  I usually, as in 95% of the time use bazzill as my base but this paper has a nice weight to it so I decided to use the “Campfire” paper as my base.  I of course can not leave well enough alone so I decided to stamp the background, use stencils and paint and generally just distress, ink and grundge it up.  Yay, now I am happy!!  Yes, I know I have issues.

I also used the Basically Bare pennants for my title.  I really, really, no REALLY love these precious little embellies.  I love the different textures and shapes of the pennants because I am most happy when I have a mixture.  I love to PILE IT ON, so the different shapes and textures of my precious pennants were perfect for my title!!  I also used the cardstock accessory sheet “Summer Day” from Paper Loft

Awww, look at my cute little felt cloud that I used from the Basically Bare “Happy Little Tree“ set and just cut the felt tree top in half, voila now its a cloud. Now Basically Bare does have clouds in the “Celestial Shapes” set, but I just didn’t have any on hand.  I do love to improvise.  Anywho, my cute white cloud looked naked (to me) so I stamped my little cloud then I used some glimmer mist and added some ink around the edges.  For the felt pennant with the polka dots I used Kuretake fabricolor pens and made a dot pattern then inked it.  Did I tell you I also have a side gig going on with inks?  Don’t tell the distress tools.

This little pennant is made of canvas so I stamped on it with stazon then inked the edges

This “flag” pennant is made of chipboard so I covered it with the “Sleeping Bag” paper.

So I used all my pennants in all the different shapes and textures except for acrylic.  I would have used that one too but they all didn’t fit on my banner.  I personally like using the different qualities of embellishments.  For instance if it is chipboard then I dont mind covering it with paper.  But if its acrylic, canvas or felt … well I am going to enhance that texture not hide it with paper.

Supplies Used from Paper Loft:

  • Dragonflies
  •  Geese
  • Sleeping Bag
  • Campers
  • Campfire
  • Summer Day

Hey there, Tanisha here continuing the product swap week between Pink Paislee and Basically Bare.  Anyone who knows me knows that I am a big Pink Paislee fan, so getting to work with the Indigo Bleu line AND my favorite Basically Bare products made creating this layout extra fun!

I used Basically Bare Pennants (large), Dress Form, Blossoms & Leaves, Fanciful Frames, and Birds  as well as stamps and embossing powders from WOW.

These pennants are some of my new faves!!  I covered them with patterned paper, heat embossed using WOW’s neutral ultra shimmer embossing glitter and then layered with wood embellishments and flowers.  I used the same powder on the canvas leaf and then outlined with Zig Memory System Millennium pen.

I swear, I can’t get enough of the dress forms!!  I peeled the top layer of cardboard off of the bodice, swiped with white acrylic paint and then covered with patterned paper, lace, and a wooden button.

I like to add plain chipboard to a lot of my projects.  I think the neutral kraft color gives the viewer’s eye a break.

The Fanciful Frame is the perfect size for a 4×6 photo.  I coated the one here with WOW’s Black Glint Embossing Glitter — love that shine!

Last but certainly not least, is the acrylic birdie nestled among the flowers.  I use a stamp from WOW Call Me stamp set and staz-on ink to stamp the script writing.  I embossed the felt wing with embossing glittered and added a pearl to the eye.

I hope you leave here today with some ideas for different ways to use Basically Bare’s products!!

Until next time,

Noel with a Canvas Banner

December 6th, 2011 | By admin in Banners | No Comments »

What can I say, I’m a Timmy fan and his 12 tags of Christmas always gets my attention. So when that first tag came out, I had the perfect piece of canvas goodness to create it with. Hi everyone, Erika Taylor here today to share with you my take on Tag 1 this year.

For this card I used the smallest canvas banner and first sprayed it with Vanilla Breeze Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist. Before it was completely dry, I stamped the banner with a postage stamp I have. The ink ran to really give a vintage feel. LOVE IT!!! Pretty Pretty Pretty I say

I love how easy it is to fold and manipulate these canvas pieces. To create the dimension, I used Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots. This helped lift the folds to give them that height I was looking for.

Isn’t the color of that banner sweet? Against all that cool winter colors, it really gives the card a POP.

One more picture hehe

The perfect addition to any Vintage card I’m positive. These canvas banners are so pretty to work with and I love how the end result always blows my mind. Do you have your canvas banners yet? Well what are ya waiting for!!!

Thanks so much for stopping by the Basically Bare blog today. Let me know what you think. We all love your comments here on the blog, so don’t be shy!!!

Until Next Time

Sarah Takes Us To Tinsel Town

November 17th, 2011 | By Beth in Banners, Birds, Cards | 1 Comment »

Another card from me today, and one even more Christmassy that the last, I’m getting into the Christmas spirit even more now with all of the projects I’m making!

Supply List – Felt Bird Stackabellies and Canvas Banner – Basically Bare, Rubber Stamp – LOTV, Papers, Postcard Embellishment & Greeting – Tinseltown Craft CD by Sarah Hurley, Tea Dye Distress Ink, Icicle Stickles – Ranger, Cricut Expression with Built in Cartridge – Provocraft, Promarkers & Flexmarkers – Letraset, Black Memento Ink Pad, Card Blank, Double Sided Tape, Bleedproof paper & Adhesive Pearl from Stash

Firstly, I stamped the image using memento ink onto bleedproof paper and coloured in with my Promarkers. I then added highlights with white gel pen and stickles (leave the marker to dry completely first)

I coloured the felt bird and belly with my Promarkers to turn him into a robin (as the markers are alcohol inks you can use them on pretty much any surface including these gorgeous felt embellishments!) adding the colour also made him look cute and fluffy! I added an adhesive pearl for the eye and coloured it black with a marker.

I lightly inked the edges of the canvas banner with my tea dye ink pad, just swiping it along the edge and allowing it to highlight the fraying (you can take off the frayed parts and seal the edges with glossy accents but I like the slightly frayed look, I think it’s more vintage looking)

I Printed off the two papers, postcard embellishment and greeting from the Tinseltown CD, then matted the paper onto my card blank. I cut the mat shape from the green paper using my Cricut Expression on the inbuilt ‘American Alphabet’ cartridge, I matted this onto my card tucking the little postcard embellishment behind. I attached the canvas banner using double sided tape and then added the robin and greeting using 3D foam.

Thanks for dropping by!

Christmas Time With Sarah H

November 7th, 2011 | By Beth in Banners, Pennants | 2 Comments »

Well, the excitement of Halloween is over so now I guess I’ll move onto Christmas, my very favourite Holiday time!

Last week I started looking back on all of the pictures from last Christmas (I really must start scrapping quicker!) and found this hilarious one of my sister and her fiancé messing about after dinner, it was so cute I had to scrap it straight away!

Supply List – Chipboad Frame, Chipboard Pennant & Felt Banner – Basically Bare, Papers, Red & White Alphabet Stickers, Rudolph & Star Stickers – Doodlebug, Teal Alphabet Stickers – Cosmo Cricket, Holly Leaves – Paper Cellar, Gems, Red Acrylic Paint

I painted a Basically Bare Chipboard Frame and Pennant with Red Acrylic Paint (2 coats so it was nice and bright!) when they were dry I matted the photo into the frame and trimmed away the excess

I used Doodlebug papers and stickers as the fun look and bright colours suited the picture perfectly. I added some foam behind the sticker to give it some dimension.

I added a Basically Bare Felt Banner and  Cosmo Cricket Alphabet stickers (the felt is kind of compressed so you can still used stickers on top of it without them losing their sticky – yay!)

The Holly leaves and glittery stars and gems added the finishing touches to make the layout really ‘pop’ – I love the mix of textures here, the chipboard, felt and paper all with some added sparkle and bright colours!

Thank you for dropping by

Thankful Canvas

November 5th, 2011 | By admin in Altered Art, Banners, Dress Forms, Hearts, Paisleys | 3 Comments »

Now that Halloween is over, I’ve started thinking about Thanksgiving. I won’t be celebrating it with family this year, but I will spend the holiday with a special group of friends that I am thankful to have in my life.

I have many things to be thankful for, but I don’t always remember them. So I created a canvas for the holiday that I can hang as a reminder.

On an 8″x10″ canvas that was sprayed with Glimmer Mist, I created my own turkey using a variety of Basically Bare embellishments. I started with chipboard and corrugated hearts covered with patterned paper – I used fall leaves because I really liked the colors. Two pieces from the paisley embellishments were painted to create the body of the turkey.

For the turkey’s legs, I used the bottom part of chipboard and corrugated dress forms. I just cut the “stand” portions off and saved the “body” part of the dress forms for another project.

Then, I took a large felt banner and sprayed it with three different Glimmer Mist colors to give it some dimension. On the banner, I placed sticker letters to spell out “Thankful” for my title.

A quote from John F. Kennedy printed on patterned paper was the final piece. Assembled, the project looks like this…

I haven’t decided what wall to hang the canvas, but at least I have my project done well before the holiday, LOL! Have a great weekend!

Until next blog post…

Hallowe’en Layout

November 2nd, 2011 | By admin in Banners, Birds, Dress Forms, Page Layouts | No Comments »

Hallowe’en came and went. I’m kinda sad cause I love the craziness of getting dressed up and the mystique of the occasion with the kids. But now, the excitement of Christmas, woohoo!!! This is GREAT!

So this last week, I was reminiscing about previous Hallowe’ens, realizing I needed to get caught up before I can scrap this years photos.

I broke out some Basically Bare pendants, a dress form and a bird and did a little decorating. The layout came together really well.

The thing is, the little bare shapes are the perfect weight and size for a layout. I simply covered them in Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L products and adhered the paper or ribbon to the shapes. Stuck like a dream!

signing off as the crafty witch, until next year! now to get ready for Christmas!
