Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with Basically Bare Chipboard

May 5th, 2013 | By Veronica in Blossoms and Leaves, Page Layouts, Pennants | 1 Comment »

Happy Cinco De Mayo!  Veronica here to share another layout with you.  I am going to a Cinco De Mayo party so I thought I would get a layout ready. I also have some pictures from when I went to Puerto Vallarta, so maybe I will use those.

I have to admit to all that I am a paper hoarder so I have been “saving” this paper for a long while LOL.

I decided to split my title between my two pages and used the small Basically Bare pennants to add “MEXICO”.

I also used the Fanciful Frames Set II.  These are great to use and it really is great if you want to focus on a particular photo. Doesn’t my photo of Frida Kahlo look good?

I added lots of fuzzy fiber and some pinata embellies that I cut out of paper and layered. I thought it enhanced the flavor of ‘ole Mexico.

I decided rather than having just cardstock as my background I would dress it up with some Art Anthology and stencils and give my paper a pattern.

Notice the cute flower on the upper right hand corner.  I used Basically Bare Blossoms and Leaves, and I stacked some K&Co. flowers on top.

Art Anthology:  Sorbet – Tigers Eye

Thank you for stopping by and have a scrappy fiesta with friends!

These Little Memorable Moments

March 25th, 2013 | By Becky Garrison in Blossoms and Leaves, Delightful Doors, Dress Forms, Paparazzi | 2 Comments »

Hi there!  Becky here with you today with a truly special mini album!  This post is photo heavy, so I am going to do my supplies as such photo by photo so you can see what’s what.  The album that I used was the Basically Bare ‘Delightful Doors’ mini, and all of the papers are from the new Crate Paper collection ‘Maggie Holmes’.  And here we go …

Flowers and Bling – Prima

Ribbon – Fancy Pants Designs

Chipboard Pennant Letters – Crate Paper

Flower and Bling – Prima

The small pocket at the bottom is simply a strip of paper, punched along the top, inked with brown ink, misted with water, scrunched up, allowed to dry, and adhered to the base using Inkssentials ‘Wonder’ Tape.  This is a great way to provide space for extra photos, ephemera, etc.

Here is a view of the first pages of the inside of the album.  Top center is an envelope that I covered with patterned paper and added a photo mat and bit of ephemera from the collection.  Trim is from Maya Road and Fancy Pants Designs.  The bottom page is clear acrylic, so I painted one side with Art Anthology’s amazing ‘Dazzle’ Sorbet.  It dries clear, leaving only some gold glitter for a bit of bling!  The right hand page has a chipboard flower,  canvas leaf, and flip mat where there is room for two pictures or journaling inside.

Cardstock – Bazzill

Flowers – Prima

Vintage Button – my stash

The pages on left are the reverse sides of the envelope and acrylic sheet.  They are both covered with patterned paper, and the top one has a photo mat, while the bottom has a journaling sticker, Prima flower and ephemera.  The center is my favorite page in this album.  The page is made of canvas, and I cut a frame from pretty floral patterned paper, cut a photo mat to fit just inside, and decorated it with some Prima flowers, Epiphany bubble caps for the centers of the flowers, and a tag.

Prima Flowers

Bazzill Card Stock

Epiphany Round 14 and Flower Button 20 Bubble Caps

Pink Ribbon – My Stash

The far left pate I added a large photo mat and two layered pockets to hold lots of tags for small photos and / or journaling.  Pockets are so easy to make!  These are just simply strips of patterned paper with decorative cuts on top, and adhered with Wonder Tape, or Scor-Tape, etc.

The center page is corrugated cardboard and I removed the outer layer (one side only!!!) of kraft paper by lightly scoring it with a craft knife, then misting it with water and letting it sit for a minute or two.  Once the water has soaked in, the outer layer of paper is easy to peel off.  Then I covered it with patterned paper and added some ephemera, a flower or two, and a tag shaped flip mat that flips up to reveal space for two photos and / or journaling.

The right hand page is the reverse of the canvas page you saw above.  I simply used some ephemera from the Maggie Holmes collection, Prima flowers, and a film strip chipboard elememt from Basically Bare’s ‘Paparazzi’ collection.

Card Stock – Bazzill

Flowers – Prima

Various and sundry bits of ribbon from my stash

This page is the reverse of the corrugated cardboard page and I decorated it with patterned paper, a photo mat and decorative stickers from the Maggie Holmes collection.  The row of tiny cameras on the right hand side were stamped using Glitz Designs’ Tiny Roller Doodle ‘Camera’ stamp roller … that is the coolest thing to play with!

This pocket page was simply covered with patterned paper, then I used an element from the ephemera pack that I only glued on the bottom and sides, making room for a pull out card with space for more journaling or a tiny photo.

The picture above is the inside back cover of the album.  I added a photo mat, the word ‘Beautiful’ from the pennant chipboard letters, topped with pom-pom trim from Fancy Pants Designs.  The dress form is from Basically Bare, and I inked and heat embossed the top and bottom with Ranger ‘Copper’ embossing powder, then cut a shirt and skirt from paterned paper, and added the blue paper bow from the Maggie Holmes ephemera pack.

The back cover of the album is simply covered with patterned paper, and I adhered some perfectly coordinating ribbon from Fancy Pants Designs to the back, which pulls around and ties on the front of the album.

This is my last post as a Design Team member with Basically Bare, and I want to thank Angela, Stayce and all the girls from the team for making this experience so amazing for me!  I will miss being a part of the team, but it is time to move forward to a new phase in my life.  And to all the Basically Bare fans … Blessings from Becky!

Hippity Hop Cards with Basically Bare

March 17th, 2013 | By Veronica in Blossoms and Leaves, Celestial Shapes, Hearts | No Comments »

Hi Veronica here and it’s almost Easter!  I was in the mood to make some cutesy cards – I hope you enjoy!

I used the celestial Shapes (chipboard) and I though it would would make a great spring flower.  I covered the sun chipboard in pattern paper (MyLYB) then stacked some prima flowers and topped off with a cute yellow button.

Here is another cute card using the canvas Heart and just inked edges.  Notice I used the smallest flower of the “Blossoms and Leaves” pack and stacked the covered chipboard with some prima and button to create dimension and texture.

I also drew this quick and easy carrot to make my “spring” card more colorful.

Thank you for stopping and happy scrapping

Spring Time!

March 4th, 2013 | By Audrey in Birds, Blossoms and Leaves | No Comments »

Even though we still have a lot of snow on the ground and the 10 day forecast doesn’t have have a day over 40, I am ready for spring!  Perhaps if I decorate for spring, Mother Nature will see my lovely decor and be inspired to get the ball rolling???

Well here you go Mother Nature: a bright spring wreath on my front door!

I simple wrapped a foam wreath shape with fun fur yarn and then tied a pretty yellow ribbon on top.

I used some flowers from the Basically Bare Blossoms & Leaves set, covered the chipboard ones with paper and misted the felt ones with some pastel colors.

I layered them all up and added a brad in the middle.

I also covered a chipboard bird, too.  On all the pieces, I covered them with a thin layer of Frosted Sorbet gel paint from Art Anthology.  The pieces got stuck right into the wreath with some floral picks.

I added a few organza leaves which I cut by hand.

OK, Mother Nature….your turn.

Red Barn Love

January 30th, 2013 | By Katrina in Blossoms and Leaves, By Product, Celestial Shapes, Embellishment Sets, Happy Little Hosues, Page Layouts | 2 Comments »

Hey, it’s me Katrina again!  Occasionally, I love to just take a drive with no intent of winding up any place in particular.  Since I live in the Midwest, this often involves driving thru farming country.  I have always loved to see barns out in the middle of nowhere.  But since I have really started taking pictures as a “hobby” (or more!), I am itching to get out and find some good barns to photograph.  The picture on this layout came from a drive up in Central Missouri.  It was a great late afternoon/evening and I have some fun pictures from it.  BUT, this barn picture is my favorite!

For the cloud, I used a felt blossom from the Blossoms set that I had cut in half previously.  I misted with some Art Anthology mists in two different colors.  Then, I added some of the Art Anthology Sorbet paint in the Frost color to the cloud to lighten it up a little.

I am trying to incorporate more journaling into my layouts.  So, I popped some journaling on a label and added it at the bottom of my layout.  It’s just something I don’t usually do, but am trying to do more!

And then the tree from the Happy Little Trees set!  I used a stencil from Crafter’s Workshop and just misted with a couple of colors from Art Anthology.  For the trunk of the tree, I did a gesso base coat.  Then, I used some Art Anthology Sorbet paint in a brown color.  I wanted to tone down the sparkle, so after the trunk dried I inked the edges with some distress ink for shadowing.  I also used a bare chipboard star from the Celestial set to anchor part of my title.  I loved the bare look to it!

Thanks for stopping by today!  And make sure to take that camera on those impromptu road trips!  You might just love the pictures you end up with from it.

Swap with Bella Blvd and new Basically Bare Easel Ablum

November 30th, 2012 | By Veronica in Blossoms and Leaves, Buttons, Easy Easel, Happy Little Hosues, Mini Albums & Journals, Mixed-Media Albums, Uncategorized | 5 Comments »

Hellow everyone!  It’s Veronica here again with an adorable mini album for all your Thanksgiving photos!  This week (Nov. 26 – 30th) the Basically Bare design team members are doing a swap with Bella Blvd.  So for my swap I decided to use the cutest Bella Blvd “Thankful” collection.

I am also using the brand new “Easel Ablum” by Basically Bare.  This album is perfect for any mini you have in mind.  The Easel album makes such a great coffee table album for all your treasured memories.  The “easy easel” bare booklets album comes with pages that are 4×6 and 5×5 so you have plenty of space to create an awesome mini.

The thing I love most about the Bella Blvd “Thankful” collection is that the line comes with a couple of different style of tag pages.  It is so easy to pick out the tag you want to use for your journaling or as a design element on your album, for example my front page.

Thank you for stopping by to visit, hope you enjoyed my mini.

Happy Scrapping,

Veronica Johnson / Kitsnbitscraps

How to build a fort…use leaves and twigs!

November 22nd, 2012 | By Audrey in Blossoms and Leaves, Happy Little Trees, Uncategorized | 2 Comments »

Hello everyone!  Audrey here with my very FIRST post on the Basically Bare blog!  Very excited!  :)

I had a stack of fall photos on my desk still when I got my stash of Basically Bare goodies.  So the first thing I went to were the “Happy Little Trees” set and the “Blossoms and Leaves”.

I started by misting the leaves with a stencil and some spray ink.  For the tree branches, I used a small woodgrain stamp and some Chestnut Roan ink.

I splattered some mists on a few leaves, stitched on some, and added some journaling to others.

I added some more splatters around the page, some stickers for my title, and then a bit more machine stitching.

Thanks for stopping by today and I hope that you have a WONDERFUL Thanksgiving with family and friends!!

Pretty Vintage Place Cards

November 18th, 2012 | By Becky Garrison in Altered Art, Blossoms and Leaves, Fanciful Frames Set 2 | 3 Comments »

Hi there!  I am Becky Garrison and this is my first post here on the Basically Bare blog, and you have no idea how thrilled I am to be able to represent this company!  I love their products and enjoy trying to come up with new ways to use them.  Today, since Thanksgiving is just a few days away here in the United States, I though I would use one of the frames from our Fanciful Frames II and make a vintage place card for our dinner table.

Supplies:

  • Basically Bare Fanciful Frames II
  • Basically Bare Blossoms and Leaves
  • Crate Paper ‘Farmhouse’ Patterned Papers
  • Epiphany Crafts ‘Round 14′ Shape Tool and Bubble Cap
  • ‘Stampabilities’ Brown Ink
  • Ranger / Tim Holtz ‘Shabby Shutters’ Distress Ink (Leaf)
  • Darice Earth Tone Hemp Cord
  • Vintage Button, Chipboard and Ivory Cardstock From My Stash

Instructions:

  • Before you start, you will want to go through photos of each of your guests when they were children or teenagers and scan and print them in a ‘wallet’ size.
  • Using chipboard frame, trace shape onto two coordinating pieces of patterned paper.  Trim (or ‘fussy’ cut) frames.  I found that a 1/8 inch hole punch fits perfectly into the deeper cuts.
  • Adhere the sheet of patterned paper you chose for the front onto the front of the chipboard frame.  Using a craft knife, cut slits from corner to corner of the inside of the frame in a large ‘X’.  Fold the triangular pieces under the chipboard frame and adhere to the back side.
  • Ink all edges with brown ink, including the inside edges of the frame.
  • Crop your photo so that it is about 1/4 to 1/2″ larger than the opening in the frame.  Adhere to underside of the frame.
  • Cover back of frame with a square of plain chipboard for added sturdiness.
  • Adhere second sheet of patterned paper that you previously cut to shape of the frame to the back side of the frame.  Ink all edges.
  • Cut a scrap of chipboard or heavy weight card stock for the back easel.  Measure the height of the frame, take 3/4 of that measurement and double it.  (For instance, if your frame is 4″ tall,  3/4 of that is 3″ x 2  = 6″)  Cut a strip of chipboard that is that length by about 2″ wide.  Adhere a scrap of coordinated patterned paper to one side.  Score in half and fold at the score.  Cut a scrap of chipboard or heavy duty card stock that is about 2″ x 3″.  Score at 1/2″ and 2 1/2″  Fold in the shape of a ‘Z’ and glue the ends to the inside of the strip of folded chipboard.  See photo below for example.  Now adhere the ‘easel’ to the back of the frame with the bottom edges at the bottom of the card.
  • Decorate the front of the frame with your Basically Bare Blossoms and Leaves.  Cover one side of the chipboard ‘blossom’ with coordinating patterned paper.  Add a button or round 14 Epiphany Crafts Bubble Cap to center of the blossom.  Ink edges.  Heavily ink the canvas leaf with green ink.  Adhere leaf, then blossom to the frame.
  • Print or hand write the name of your guest on a scrap of coordinating card stock.  Use a decorative edger punch to punch one end.  Adhere to top corner of frame.  Add a bow of hemp cord and a button.

Autumn Birdhouse

November 16th, 2012 | By Beth in Altered Art, Birds, Blossoms and Leaves | 5 Comments »

Hi, guys!  It is finally full-on autumn here, and I am happy as a cool little clam.  My project today is an altered birdhouse that features some Bare Basics Blossoms and Leaves and Basically Embellies Stack-a-Bellies Birds.

I stained the birdhouse with some dark ink and then covered it with DCWV papers.  The decoupage glue I used turned the brown ink a sort of reddish-brown color that really worked well with this whole color scheme.

I wrapped the house in two layers of burlap ribbon in beige and brown.

I inked the canvas leaves from the Blossoms and Leaves set and covered the chipboard flower and both birds with Stickles in autumnal and distress colors.

The whole thing was layered together with some additional embellies and my birdhouse was finished!

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Be sure to come back again soon!

‘Til next time,

x Beth

Thanksgiving Napkin Ring with Jen Matott

October 13th, 2012 | By admin in Altered Art, Blossoms and Leaves, Pennants | 15 Comments »

Hi there crafty friends!  I have a fun little project to share that incorporates many of Basically Bare’s shapes in one cute napkin holder.  Thanksgiving in the USA (I know Canada already had theirs) is next month and I thought I’d create a fun table decor that is useful too.

I took on of the chipboard owl body and covered it with patterned papers.  I covered 2 wings with a coordinating paper. Added a beak (by folding a leaf from the flower pack in half), waddle (a small felt wing shape), and flower eyes.

The canvas leaf was colored with a marker and the felt waddle with red marker.  I layered the small flowers under circles from the owl shapes and added little black gems.

The tail of the turkey was created with a large felt flower (edged in marker), a gear covered in patterned paper, and the feathers that were created with the leaves and the wings in the owl set. I used Helmar’s 450 Adhesive to glue the patterned papers onto the chipboard and then to attach them all together!

One of the pennants and another canvas leaf cut in half become the feet .

I cut a toilet paper roll in half and covered it with patterned papers and glued it to the back of the turkey.

This cute little guy waits to greet the person sitting at this place setting!  This would be perfect project for the kid’s table or just as a Thanksgiving decoration.   I love that I took many shapes and turned it into a festive and fun turkey.  What could you do with shapes that change what the original intention was?
