Dos Tarjetas

August 16th, 2012 | By JamieP in Cards, Dress Forms, Paisleys | 14 Comments »

Jamie here with you to show off a bit of Basically Bare and Authentique!   Today I have dos tarjetas, or two cards, to share with you.

I love the Oh So Mini Mixed Media albums, but I’m not really an album kind of gal.  So, I found another really fun way to use the album pieces – as cards.  All of the pages are 6×6, so they make for a really fun sized card to work with.

For my first card, I started with the acrylic page and used StazOn ink around the edges to create a shadowed effect.

Next, I used Glimmer Glaze on the wings and dress form.  Once the Glimmer Glaze was dry, I added the dress form, a flower, and a few sentiment stickers to the acrylic page.

For the chipboard page, I layered the Authentique paper with a bit of ribbon and punchinella.  Lastly, I inked around the edge of the paper and then used a bit of ribbon to bind the acrylic and chipboard pages together to form the card.

My second card was created in a very similar fashion.  I applied a think layer of acrylic paint to the edges of the acrylic page.  While the paint was still wet, I pressed a paper towel into it to create a really fun texture.

Next, I used three paisleys to embellish the front of the acrylic page.  The acrylic paisley was painted with Glimmer Glaze, ran through my Cuttle bug for texture, then the raised portions were inked with StazOn.  The felt paisley was spritzed with ink, and once dry, I added Enamel Accents dots around the edge. Lastly, I added a bit of Authentique paper, a few crystals, and a mirrored bird to the chipboard paisley.

For the inside of the second card, I layered several sheets of Authintique paper.

April Showers…

April 8th, 2012 | By admin in Altered Art, Blossoms and Leaves, Paisleys | 5 Comments »

Hi!  Jen Matott here and I’m so excited to share my first Basically Bare project as an Art Assembly DT member!  I love altering canvas and was inspired by the clouds in the Celestial Shapes and the flowers in the Blossoms and Leaves shape sets to create this Spring -themed home decor piece.

April Showers Bring May Flowers canvas

I used a Crafter’s Workshop cloud template to create the patterned paper clouds and embossing powder clouds.

The paisley print clouds are from the Celestial Shapes set and stamped with Pink Paislee’s Indigo Bleu line.

I created a watery blue background and added all the layers of clouds .  The flowers are so cute… some were covered with patterned papers and some stamped and colored with Zig Fabric markers.

I also colored and stitched the leaves with twine.  The stems are twine that was sewn through the canvas onto the back.

Finally, I added the words with Pink Paislee’s tiny letters and added their buttons to the centers of my flowers. I also stamped and embossed this beautiful butterfly (using the Build a Butterfly stamp from WOW! Embossing powders) over patterned paper to add some color to the piece.

This little beauty is sitting on my mantel to welcome Spring into my house!  I hope you enjoyed my project using the Basically Bare shapes!  They are adorable and fun to work with!

Create Canvas

March 1st, 2012 | By JamieP in Altered Art, Paisleys | 6 Comments »

Jamie with you today to jump start March with a fun canvas.  I’ve had a major case of scrapper’s block recently, so I thought I’d try something just slightly different to try to get those creative juices flowing again.  Guess what?  It worked!

I started the background by using Claudine Hellmuth’s Studio Acrylic Paints and just slightly blended them together. Then I used a Crafter’s Workshop template and Liquitex Gesso to create the circle texture. Next, I added a bit of Tissue Tape and added the color using Gelatos Ink.  Then I added a strip of clear punchinella and then painted on the letters.

Now, on to the good stuff!  I used the Stack-a-Bellies Paisleys to add a bit of dimension to the bottom of the canvas.  I heat embossed them both with two layers of Bubble Gum WOW embossing powder.

By just slightly overheating (but not burning) the embossing powder, I got this really cool mottled look.  I wanted to add just a bit of shine to the paisleys, so I heat embossed a layer of clear embossing powder on top of the pink.

For the finishing touch, I added a couple flowers to the paisleys and used a bit of puff paint around the edges.

Eggshell Brooch and Little Sneaks

January 24th, 2012 | By admin in Altered Art, Paisleys | 2 Comments »

Hey there everyone, Erika Taylor here today to share with you a project I created from some serious inspiration. Trudy Sjolander created a beautiful heart brooch a while back and I had to try my hand in creating one too. For this piece I used a chipboard piece from the Stack-a-Bellies Paisley pack. I first brushed the entire chipboard surface with Helmar Acid Free Glue, then applied the crushed eggshells to the Paisley piece. Once dry I gave it a thick coat of Helmar Decoupage and Craft paste.

While the paisley was still wet, I sprinkled a few colors of Wow Embossing Powders onto it. (Nutmeg and Olive earthtones). I grabbed my heat gun and set it. Purdy Purdy. Last but not least I added a coat of Helmar Sealer to protect it. The outcome? here it is!!!

A close up of those eggshells…

I think I’m going to try one of these using the fantastic Bare Basic Gears. Now that would be cool!!!

Now yesterday on the Basically Bare blog we shared the new Tiny Tabs album. I’m going to need a million of these and that says a lot considering I’ve never embrace mini albums. UNTIL NOW!!! I wanted to share with you just 1 page I created. If you are going to CHA, stop by Booth #2704 to see all of the amazing albums that Basically Bare is releasing. I’ll see you there!!!

Until next time

Thankful Canvas

November 5th, 2011 | By admin in Altered Art, Banners, Dress Forms, Hearts, Paisleys | 3 Comments »

Now that Halloween is over, I’ve started thinking about Thanksgiving. I won’t be celebrating it with family this year, but I will spend the holiday with a special group of friends that I am thankful to have in my life.

I have many things to be thankful for, but I don’t always remember them. So I created a canvas for the holiday that I can hang as a reminder.

On an 8″x10″ canvas that was sprayed with Glimmer Mist, I created my own turkey using a variety of Basically Bare embellishments. I started with chipboard and corrugated hearts covered with patterned paper – I used fall leaves because I really liked the colors. Two pieces from the paisley embellishments were painted to create the body of the turkey.

For the turkey’s legs, I used the bottom part of chipboard and corrugated dress forms. I just cut the “stand” portions off and saved the “body” part of the dress forms for another project.

Then, I took a large felt banner and sprayed it with three different Glimmer Mist colors to give it some dimension. On the banner, I placed sticker letters to spell out “Thankful” for my title.

A quote from John F. Kennedy printed on patterned paper was the final piece. Assembled, the project looks like this…

I haven’t decided what wall to hang the canvas, but at least I have my project done well before the holiday, LOL! Have a great weekend!

Until next blog post…

Halloween Eyes Card

October 31st, 2011 | By Beth in Cards, Paisleys | 4 Comments »

Happy Halloween, everyone!  We’re kicking off a whole day of Halloween projects, and I’m glad to get things started!

This very orange card features an acrylic Basically Bare paisley, colored with alcohol inks and stamped with a spider webbed paisley stamp using black Staz-on ink.

I love (Love!) this stamp and have been looking for an opportunity to use it on a project.

Have a great time tonight, and watch out for all those little ghosts and goblins!

A whale of a card!

October 15th, 2011 | By admin in Cards, Paisleys | 4 Comments »

Hello all! Lorrie here and today’s project is a card that would be perfect for a child’s birthday. The cool thing is that it is not just a birthday card — it’s also a gift card holder!

I used a Basically Bare chipboard paisley to make a cute little whale, coloring him with blue paint and then texturizing him by blotting with a paper towel. I then added some Stickles for dimension. I made the waterspout out of Basically Bare felt paisleys and more Stickles!

The fun part of the card is the fact that it is a “slider”. I made a 2-inch long notch in the card and then placed a piece of cardstock behind the notch. I attached the cardstock slider to the notch using a flat brad (the brad slides along the notch), and then I glued the whale to the top of the brad. I attached a ribbon to the end of the cardstock piece as a pull tab. Then a gift card can be adhered to the piece of cardstock. When the recipient pulls the tab, the little whale slides back and forth!

Thanks for taking a look! I hope you all have one “whale” of a weekend!

Everyday Greetings

October 5th, 2011 | By admin in Birds, Cards, Dress Forms, Paisleys | 2 Comments »

Hi everyone! Today I’m sharing a couple of everyday cards. It seems like I’m always needing a card, so I decided to make up a couple of different cards to be used as a “Hello” or a “Thank You” or “Just Because.”

First is a vintage-inspired card using the Dress Me Up Clothes. I love decorating the clothes with scraps of ribbon or lace and using leftover embellishments from other projects. This “Hello” card recycled quite a few items: scraps of ribbon (along the left side and around the skirt waist), yellow tulle (for the skirt), and a vintage button (upper right-hand corner). I also incorporated a flower brad (on the top of the dress form) that matched the ribbon trim and the glitter chipboard letters. And although you can’t really tell since it blends into the background, the bottom half of the background is tissue paper from an actual sewing pattern.

For my second card, I pulled out some old scrapbooking tools I haven’t used in awhile: my heat embossing gun and embossing powder!

I first took a Stack-A-Bellies chipboard bird and gave it some dimension by inking it, then heat embossing it. I had to repeat this a few times – I was a little rusty on my heat embossing, lol – but I was able to give the bird a bit of texture so it didn’t seem so flat. One suggestion I’d make is to use UTEE instead of regular embossing powder. (I couldn’t find my bottle of UTEE in time for this project.) The great part about the chipboard is that it was able to withstand the repeated heat embossing process easily.

The next step was to ink a few birdcages on my kraft cardstock before adding my white sticker letters and the completed bird. To make the “Tweet” pop a bit more, I used a black marker just inside the sticker letters and created the single quotation marks using a couple of corrugated pieces from the Stack-A-Bellies Paisleys collection.

Thanks for stopping by today – enjoy the rest of your week!

Magic

September 30th, 2011 | By admin in Paisleys | 3 Comments »

I love the color palette of the peacock. There is truly something so magical about the combination. So much so, that it inspired my newest blog design. So I thought what better way to create than to use the proud bird as inspiration.

Hi everyone, Erika Taylor here today to share with you a card I created using the Stack-a-Bellies Paisleys. I used  the chipboard pieces and painted 2 black, 1 with Broken China Crackle paint and the smallest with Organic Garden Glimmer Glam. Then I stacked them up, added some white/black marker doodles and some Stickles and a pretty Peacock Paisley was born.

The Stack-a-Bellies embellishments are perfect for every project. They really add dimension and hold paint mediums so well. Grab some Paisley Stack-a-Bellies today and see where your imagination takes you. Until next time…

PS- I’ve got  little Blog Candy giveaway going on right now and it includes some great Basically Bare goodies. Go check it out!!!

A Pretty Paisley Card by Sarah Hurley

August 29th, 2011 | By Beth in Cards, Paisleys | 5 Comments »

As soon as I spotted this little package of Paisley pieces in my DT box I knew exactly what I wanted to do with them, alter them and make a fab Paisley pattern!

The pieces are all different sizes and made from Felt, Acrylic and Chipboard – The felt ones I just edges with gold acrylic paint, the chipboard ones I painted with 2 layers of acrylic paint and the acrylic ones I used my alcohol inks – they work fantastically on these giving a stained glass type effect that I just loved! Once edged with gold paint they looked like the old pieces of glass you sometimes find in thrift shops.

Once all the pieces were dry I positioned them over my card to make sure I liked the pattern, layering the different textures as I went. I used extra strong tape for the chipboard pieces as they are quite heavy – especially when you layer a few of them together! The acrylic pieces are best stuck down with glossy accents – I spread it over the back with my finger and it dried completely invisible and didn’t make the colour look cloudy – perfect!

Once the adhesive was all dry I trimmed the excess from the edges and added one of the chipboard banners – again painted with acrylic paint, and added some sparkly white letters.

I think this makes a very bold card and would be great for a male themed card – something I know a lot of people struggle with! I can’t wait to try some more things with these, they are so versatile!

Thanks for looking at my very first blog post for Basically Bare, I can’t wait to bring you more fun projects!
