Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with Basically Bare Chipboard

May 5th, 2013 | By Veronica in Blossoms and Leaves, Page Layouts, Pennants | 1 Comment »

Happy Cinco De Mayo!  Veronica here to share another layout with you.  I am going to a Cinco De Mayo party so I thought I would get a layout ready. I also have some pictures from when I went to Puerto Vallarta, so maybe I will use those.

I have to admit to all that I am a paper hoarder so I have been “saving” this paper for a long while LOL.

Basically_Bare_Layout_Kitsnbitscraps_Pages6

I decided to split my title between my two pages and used the small Basically Bare pennants to add “MEXICO”.

I also used the Fanciful Frames Set II.  These are great to use and it really is great if you want to focus on a particular photo. Doesn’t my photo of Frida Kahlo look good?

I added lots of fuzzy fiber and some pinata embellies that I cut out of paper and layered. I thought it enhanced the flavor of ‘ole Mexico.

I decided rather than having just cardstock as my background I would dress it up with some Art Anthology and stencils and give my paper a pattern.

Notice the cute flower on the upper right hand corner.  I used Basically Bare Blossoms and Leaves, and I stacked some K&Co. flowers on top.

Art Anthology:  Sorbet – Tigers Eye

Thank you for stopping by and have a scrappy fiesta with friends!

Sew Basic

April 22nd, 2013 | By Marilyn in Dress Forms | 19 Comments »

Good morning everyone!  Today I have a sweet little canvas panel made with one of my favorite Basically Bare embellies, some Art Anthology Sorbet, Distress Paint, and Prima flowers.

Spring Dress Form Panel

To start with, I grabbed a 5×7 canvas panel and streaked on some Distress Paint.  You can use any colors you want, but I chose Barn Door and Mustard Seed for their bright happy feel, then spritzed with water to help blend them into the very hard panel.  I then rubbed Peeled Paint Distress Ink over the entire panel with a blender while the paint was still damp. That’s how I got all the color variations.

Spring Dress Form Top
I painted the top of the Basically Bare Dress Form in Mustard Seed and the bottom in Barn Door to echo the background colors.  Next, I added silk ribbon around the top of the dress form and at the waist for dimension.  To decorate the panel, I grabbed a flourish stamp and proceeded to stamp all the way around the edge of the panel using embossing ink.  I then poured black embossing powder over the ink and almost had heart failure.  The powder stuck to everything!  After dusting a lot of it off with a paintbrush, I decided I liked the effect and hit it with my heat tool.

Dress Form Bottom

I painted a nice thick layer of Art Anthology Dazzle Sorbet over the skirt to add lots of sparkle.  I tried to capture the amazing glittery effect but it’s so hard to do with a camera, even on a bright sunny day.  It looks awesome in person!

Dress Form Flowers

After adhering the Basically Bare Dress Form to my panel, I grabbed my Prima flowers and gave the bottom left corner the floral treatment.  I love my panel and it’s going to be hung in my studio to add brightness and color.

Supplies:
Basically Bare Dress Form
Art Anthology Sorbet – Dazzle
Tim Holtz Distress Paint – Barn Door and Mustard Seed
Tim Holtz Distress Ink – Peeled Paint
Crafty Secrets – Little Sewing Co stamp
Prima Flowers – Assorted
Flourish Stamp (generic)
Black Embossing Powder

One For The Ladies

So, we have ferrets.  They are a giant handful, but they are so much fun, and we just love them to pieces.  This is a set of layouts I made using their pictures.  These are now framed up and hanging in their room.   I figured it’s the least I can do since they let me use it as my craft room as well.

This is Wanda The Fearless Flying Ferret.  She is the older of the pair; nearly 2 and a half years old now.  She is the sweetest ferret in the world.

This is Arya Underfoot, our baby (she’s just turned 14 weeks old).  She’s a firecracker, but has a very sweet nature underneath.

Each one of these layouts has Basically Bare Fanciful Frames 2 chipboard embellies with a bunch of Art Anthology paint on top.  Since they were planned as framed layouts instead of album pages, I cut plenty of banner shapes from burlap, ribbon, and paper and layered them up with great soft flowers and trims.

Thanks so much for stopping for a look!  I hope you come back and see us soon!

x Beth

The Moon and Stars Hey Diddle, Diddle

April 12th, 2013 | By Veronica in Celestial Shapes, Page Layouts | 1 Comment »

It’s me again, Veronica here to share a two page layout with a nursery rhyme themed for baby.

It has been a long while since I made a layout for baby, so I thought this would be cute to do.  I love using the Basically Bare “celestial shapes” and I thought the nursery rhyme “Hey Diddle, Diddle” went perfectly with the clouds, moon and stars

On both the felt clouds and the chipboard stars I used Art Anthology “linen” sorbet.  It gives not only a shine but also texture which I love.  I also added some blue glitter to the star and rim of the clouds.

Of course you can always cover the chipboard pieces with paper as I did with the moon and one of the stars :)   I just like using the chipboard because it gives dimension to the pages.

Hope you enjoyed my nursery rhyme.  Thank you for stopping by …

Happy Scrappin,

Veronica (Kitsnbits)

These Little Memorable Moments

March 25th, 2013 | By Becky Garrison in Blossoms and Leaves, Delightful Doors, Dress Forms, Paparazzi | 2 Comments »

Hi there!  Becky here with you today with a truly special mini album!  This post is photo heavy, so I am going to do my supplies as such photo by photo so you can see what’s what.  The album that I used was the Basically Bare ‘Delightful Doors’ mini, and all of the papers are from the new Crate Paper collection ‘Maggie Holmes’.  And here we go …

Flowers and Bling – Prima

Ribbon – Fancy Pants Designs

Chipboard Pennant Letters – Crate Paper

Flower and Bling – Prima

The small pocket at the bottom is simply a strip of paper, punched along the top, inked with brown ink, misted with water, scrunched up, allowed to dry, and adhered to the base using Inkssentials ‘Wonder’ Tape.  This is a great way to provide space for extra photos, ephemera, etc.

Here is a view of the first pages of the inside of the album.  Top center is an envelope that I covered with patterned paper and added a photo mat and bit of ephemera from the collection.  Trim is from Maya Road and Fancy Pants Designs.  The bottom page is clear acrylic, so I painted one side with Art Anthology’s amazing ‘Dazzle’ Sorbet.  It dries clear, leaving only some gold glitter for a bit of bling!  The right hand page has a chipboard flower,  canvas leaf, and flip mat where there is room for two pictures or journaling inside.

Cardstock – Bazzill

Flowers – Prima

Vintage Button – my stash

The pages on left are the reverse sides of the envelope and acrylic sheet.  They are both covered with patterned paper, and the top one has a photo mat, while the bottom has a journaling sticker, Prima flower and ephemera.  The center is my favorite page in this album.  The page is made of canvas, and I cut a frame from pretty floral patterned paper, cut a photo mat to fit just inside, and decorated it with some Prima flowers, Epiphany bubble caps for the centers of the flowers, and a tag.

Prima Flowers

Bazzill Card Stock

Epiphany Round 14 and Flower Button 20 Bubble Caps

Pink Ribbon – My Stash

The far left pate I added a large photo mat and two layered pockets to hold lots of tags for small photos and / or journaling.  Pockets are so easy to make!  These are just simply strips of patterned paper with decorative cuts on top, and adhered with Wonder Tape, or Scor-Tape, etc.

The center page is corrugated cardboard and I removed the outer layer (one side only!!!) of kraft paper by lightly scoring it with a craft knife, then misting it with water and letting it sit for a minute or two.  Once the water has soaked in, the outer layer of paper is easy to peel off.  Then I covered it with patterned paper and added some ephemera, a flower or two, and a tag shaped flip mat that flips up to reveal space for two photos and / or journaling.

The right hand page is the reverse of the canvas page you saw above.  I simply used some ephemera from the Maggie Holmes collection, Prima flowers, and a film strip chipboard elememt from Basically Bare’s ‘Paparazzi’ collection.

Card Stock – Bazzill

Flowers – Prima

Various and sundry bits of ribbon from my stash

This page is the reverse of the corrugated cardboard page and I decorated it with patterned paper, a photo mat and decorative stickers from the Maggie Holmes collection.  The row of tiny cameras on the right hand side were stamped using Glitz Designs’ Tiny Roller Doodle ‘Camera’ stamp roller … that is the coolest thing to play with!

This pocket page was simply covered with patterned paper, then I used an element from the ephemera pack that I only glued on the bottom and sides, making room for a pull out card with space for more journaling or a tiny photo.

The picture above is the inside back cover of the album.  I added a photo mat, the word ‘Beautiful’ from the pennant chipboard letters, topped with pom-pom trim from Fancy Pants Designs.  The dress form is from Basically Bare, and I inked and heat embossed the top and bottom with Ranger ‘Copper’ embossing powder, then cut a shirt and skirt from paterned paper, and added the blue paper bow from the Maggie Holmes ephemera pack.

The back cover of the album is simply covered with patterned paper, and I adhered some perfectly coordinating ribbon from Fancy Pants Designs to the back, which pulls around and ties on the front of the album.

This is my last post as a Design Team member with Basically Bare, and I want to thank Angela, Stayce and all the girls from the team for making this experience so amazing for me!  I will miss being a part of the team, but it is time to move forward to a new phase in my life.  And to all the Basically Bare fans … Blessings from Becky!

Hippity Hop Cards with Basically Bare

March 17th, 2013 | By Veronica in Blossoms and Leaves, Celestial Shapes, Hearts | No Comments »

Hi Veronica here and it’s almost Easter!  I was in the mood to make some cutesy cards – I hope you enjoy!

I used the celestial Shapes (chipboard) and I though it would would make a great spring flower.  I covered the sun chipboard in pattern paper (MyLYB) then stacked some prima flowers and topped off with a cute yellow button.

Here is another cute card using the canvas Heart and just inked edges.  Notice I used the smallest flower of the “Blossoms and Leaves” pack and stacked the covered chipboard with some prima and button to create dimension and texture.

I also drew this quick and easy carrot to make my “spring” card more colorful.

Thank you for stopping and happy scrapping

Two Cards

March 7th, 2013 | By Beth in Cards, Dress Forms, Hearts | No Comments »

Good morning, guys!  Beth here with a couple of cards that I made using Basically Bare goodies.  Both used We R Memory Keepers paper and lots of Art Anthology paint and spray.  Lets dive right on in, OK?

First up is this “Timeless” card that features a Dress Me Up Dress Form.  I painted the dress form with Art Anthology Sorbet paints (Satin Sheen Gold for the dress and Trolley Grey for the post and stand), which are dimensional and glimmery.  I kind of smunched my brush around in it to give some texture.

Once the Sorbet paint was dry, I added a thin coat of Art Anthology Velvet paint in Mayan Gold over the top of the dress.  The Velvet paint has a much more matte finish, but still allowed some of the glimmer to come through from the Sorbet paint beneath.

To finish up, I added a few stripes of Stickles in the corrugated grooves of the card background for just a little more shine, and a few ribbons.

Now, on to the second card!

I used a Bare Basics Heart for this card.  It has three layers of Art Anthology goodness which combined to match the background paper color fairly closely.

I started with Art Anthology Colorations spray in Lark as a base coat.  I then added Sorbet paint in Lagoon, which is a little bit more teal than the background.  To tone down the teal, I added a final coat of Sorbet paint in Splashed once the other layers were dry.

Like the first card, this one has some Stickles in the grooves to make it shine a little more.

The black ribbon and rhinestone trim are the finishing touches on this one.

Thanks so much for stopping by and having a look!

A Great Way to Celebrate Mom!

March 5th, 2013 | By Becky Garrison in Casually Covered, Fanciful Frames Set 2 | 15 Comments »

Hi Folks!  Becky here today with a question for you … “Are you ready for Mother’s Day?”  It is never too early to start thinking of ways to honor your Mom whether she is still here with you or just to celebrate memories of her!  The ‘Casually Covered’ Mini Album, mixed with Authentique’s new ‘Renew’ collection makes a perfect pair for a ’10 Reasons Why I Love My Mom’ album!

For the front cover I used the dictionary page paper, one of the die cut folders and a Petaloo flower that I misted with Art Anthology’s ‘Glorious’ Colorations mist.  I then took a bit of black tulle and gathered it and attached it to the top of the flower and used another die cut from the ‘Renew’ collection for the center of the flower.

I love the die cuts that come with this collection, especially the numbers 1 through 10, and the index tabs … all those great die cuts make it easy to embellish the pages of the mini.

Even though some of the pages in the Casually Covered min are small, it is easy to get photos, journaling and embellishments that fit like a glove!

The dark paper on the left hand side is a die cut folder which I used as a flip out to hold a photo mat.

The black card stock can be used as a photo mat or, if you use a white ink pen, as a great place for journaling or doodling.

This is one of my favorite pages in this mini, primarily because of the clear acrylic sheet on the right hand side!  I painted the acrylic with Art Anthology’s ‘Dazzle’ Sorbet and let it dry completely.   Dazzle has gold glitter and mica, but dries clear so that you can see through the page.  Then I added a chipboard frame from the ‘Fanciful Frames Set 2′ set which I misted with Art Anthology’s ‘Glorious’ Colorations, allowed it to dry, then painted with more of the ‘Dazzle’ Sorbet.

It is easy to add room for more photos to a mini!  I used another die cut from the paper collection, measured it and cut a piece of cardstock to the same height, but twice the length (for example, if it is 3 1/2″ x 2″  you would cut the card stock to 3 1/2″ x 4″) and score it down the middle, adhere the die cut to the front and the back to the album page.  This gives you space for two photos instead of only one.

Also, I totally LOVE the look of ‘bare’ corrugated cardboard where yo can see the ridges, but sometimes it’s hard to remove the outer covering.  But there is a trick that makes it so EASY!  Simply take a kraft knive and score lightly into the kraft paper on the outside, then mist the outside with water.  Don’t drench it, but also don’t be afraid to get it fairly wet.  Let it sit for a couple of minutes, then slowly pull off the kraft paper.  This really does work GREAT!

I love using paper flowers for embellishments, especially large ones like this one from Petaloo.  You can cut, fold, layer, mist, ink, paint, and just totally change them to match your project.

Spring Time!

March 4th, 2013 | By Audrey in Birds, Blossoms and Leaves | No Comments »

Even though we still have a lot of snow on the ground and the 10 day forecast doesn’t have have a day over 40, I am ready for spring!  Perhaps if I decorate for spring, Mother Nature will see my lovely decor and be inspired to get the ball rolling???

Well here you go Mother Nature: a bright spring wreath on my front door!

I simple wrapped a foam wreath shape with fun fur yarn and then tied a pretty yellow ribbon on top.

I used some flowers from the Basically Bare Blossoms & Leaves set, covered the chipboard ones with paper and misted the felt ones with some pastel colors.

I layered them all up and added a brad in the middle.

I also covered a chipboard bird, too.  On all the pieces, I covered them with a thin layer of Frosted Sorbet gel paint from Art Anthology.  The pieces got stuck right into the wreath with some floral picks.

I added a few organza leaves which I cut by hand.

OK, Mother Nature….your turn.
